Track & Field

Post by badasscat » Thu Feb 10, 2005 2:24 pm

I know most everyone here posts about FB & BB. But any one know how the Cats are doing in the indoor track season?

Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Both men & women are competitive this year , but they won't vye for conference championships this with some of the big guns red-shirting. Erin Jones, some of their weight throwers, and a stud freshman from ND are sitting out Indoors for the women. I believe that Josh Henigman, Blake Barnes, and Brad Benjamin are also red-shirting for the men. SOme of the Red shirts are injuries, but I believe both teams are loading up for next year. I was at the MSU meet two week ago and was surprised to find MSU with some great sprinters(more 200&400) who very young on the men's side. They also have a young thrower from Lewistown(Jesse Allen) who really is exploding right now. The girls as usual are stacked in the throws and have a few surprises popping up throughout the team. The girls even have a pole vaulter named Brittany Speirs. This friday is going to be a great meet with Weber, Idaho State, the Griz. Lots of great competition from these schools.

I swear, it's like I'm playin' cards with my brother's kids or somethin'. You nerve-wrackin' sons-a-bitches.'

yeah the guys are looking tough with the throwers but especially with a good (young) sprint team for once who are all top 12 in thier events in the conference (55, 200, 400)

Thanks for the update. The msu website has nothing that is very informative.

And you can ask me anything since I love this site! I check it often. Bill Lamberty got the results up fast at www.msubobcats.com last night.
But my site has it also www.montana.edu/cats
Our men beat Weber and UM. Our women beat UM, nice to sweep them again. ISU won all 3 duals, MSU, UM, WSU. WSU is a little down this year, and didn't enter to win, resting some people. ISU likes to dual, and so do we. Illness has hit our sprinters hard. We couldn't field a men's 4x400 team last night. We had some struggles in the throws, but some great stuff as well. Tanner Rauk's shot win was very emotional. Whitsitt, the BSC leader in the event, passed Tanner on his last throw. Whitsitt bellowed, "That's how you represent!" Tanner had one throw left, and everybody got behind him, it was loud. He hit it, stayed in the circle, and won. He ran outside and screamed (released) as loud as he could. He said that he almost passed out just before he entered the ring for that throw, which probably means that his body dumped a load of adrenalin. He runs around the track yelling for his teammates during the meet. He's awesome.
It's too bad people miss our meets. There's a ton of courage and pride out on that floor. And the weather's perfect for indoor track! By midnight the 18 ton banked track was gone, and now it's time for some great basketball.

Thanks for the info, and painting such a great picture of the meet last night. I miss being there and seeing our runners flying around the banked track.

Next Meet

Post by mchammer » Wed Feb 16, 2005 9:25 am

Our fourth and final home indoor meet starts at 4:30 this Friday the 18th. It's a last chance qualifier meet, no score. UM will be here and there will be some unattached athletes. No mascots.

Thanks for your updates, Coach. What are the possibilites of one day getting your kids to come a little east so as to allow some of us out in the Big Empty to see them compete on a regular basis? As I was asked to try to run in circles in Bozo many, many years ago, my affections still lie with the cross country and track and field kids. Does it look like the kids from Colstrip and Hardin can clear the NCAA clearinghouse? Geeezzzz, they look tough.

We haven't traveled east in a long time. Who would we meet and where? To count in NCAA Div I we have to compete with a certain number of DI teams, so who would we meet and where? I don't know the Hardin or Colstrip prospects, I just scout throwers. Am I missing someone?

Sorry Coach. Not aware of NCAA requirements; spent the better part of the last thirty years in the south where it was always easy to get to a sporting event. Really fascinated with the two Native kids and their duels in the distances. Reminds me of Wade Jacobsen and Clifford Foote during the 60s.
