Great job today by all the players/coaches/fans. The Brick was ROCKING and the Bobcats held serve on their home court. They need to get that mentality back and then host the tournament. What can I say about Casey Durham .... wow! This kid has a quick trigger, but you have to love the way this kid competes. He does not back down from anything (even constant cheap shot elbows to chest/face that don't get called). This kid can just flat out PLAY DEFENSE! Yeah, his 3's were huge, but I think the Griz guards were just flat out 'scared' of his speed/in your face defense. He is like a 1 man .. man to man press on their point guards. Kudo's also go out to Moss/Dissly/Jefferson and the rest of the team. It was a lot of 3 balls, but the up temp offense/dribbling skills/moves were really great and fun to watch in this game. I am not a big fan of the constant 3 ball, but this team now seems to find a way to at least hold serve and not get too far behind when the 3 isn't dropping (playing solid defense/no turnovers will do that). Then when the 3 starts going in, this team becomes explosive.
Plain and simple I think we beat the Griz twice this year because we have a far superior backcourt (and depth at backcourt) than the Griz do. Our guards can flat out play. Criswell has been a non factor in both games this year pretty much due to our defensive pressure/non stop pressuring. Moss is another good inside/outside combo for us as well. Is it just me or is Martin just a little punk out there? I think he will be good eventually but I think he's an achilles heal for the Griz team at times with his wild shots/turnovers/cheap fouls/mouth. I loved seeing Durham get into his head and totally dominate him this game after that PUTRID reffing job back in Missoula. And yes, a forearm/elbow to the jaw/chest to clear a guy (playing TOUGH D) off is an offensive foul refs! Big Al Beye can't even sneeze on any of the big guys w/o drawing a foul.
GREAT WIN CATS. LETS GET BOTH ON THE ROAD AT NAU/SAC STATE. It can be done! Any good team can win anywhere on the road if they put the effort/mindset into it. Lets crash this BSC party and host this tournament! Its in our grasp!

Great game and great atmosphere today! It is always sweet beating the friz and it was certainly fun again today!
I agree about Matt Martin. That kid is a cheap shot artist and a big mouth. He got away with a big elbow to casey in Missoula (gave him a concussion) away from the ball and was a punk there. I was willing to let that one go as it was the first time I saw him play and many players get a bit carried away with the excitement of Cat-griz, certainly a freshman. But after watching him again, he is a little punk as far as I am concerned. he got away with another cheap shot away from the ball, but the refs finally got him for two straight intentional fouls. He will definitely NOT be my favorite player for 3 more years.
Some people also said Lynch was a cheap shot guy tonite also. I disagree a bit. I think he certainly was frustrated a few times and committed a few dumb fouls, but never felt he did anything dirty. And he is not a mouthy punk like Martin. Speaking of Lynch, I would have picked Brian a thousand times over Casey coming out of high school. But I gotta say, Casey has improved so much and was definitely the best guard on the floor today. Not saying he is the best overall, but Casey sure has made a believer out of me that he belongs at this level. His 18 points were of course huge today, but even when he doesn't score that much, his defensive pressure off the bench and all around good floor play are enough to warrant his playing time. I was very happy to see him get Player of the Game. I bet Mick is busting at the seams tonite.
Marvin Moss played very well. If needed, I think he could have scored a lot more tonite. It seemed he could take fatboy Kamarr anytime. davis is definitely a good offensive player, but he is really nothing on defense. He doesn't even look like he wants to be on the floor when playing defense, just wants to score.
It was great to see Branden Miller finally shake his slump a bit and his shots came at the right time. Ja'Ron had a tough game, but he always plays hard. And notice again that Criswell was not a factor-Ja'Ron is a big reason for that.
And for those of you that couldn't watch the game, Dissly had 2 blocks on 6'10" Seyfert that were great to see. He had a third where a questionable foul was called. Dissly and um's Dloughy may be the 2 best pure athletes in the conference. They both go sky high and pretty much cancelled each other out, but are both fun to watch. Dloughy also has a bit of an attitude and got a T because of his mouth.
We need to now come back down and focus on two big road games. Let's not just split these games, but get two and come home for EWU and PSU. As hard as it will be for me, I may even have to pull for the griz when they play PSU in two weeks.

Oh, and the reffing. Everytime, Big Al looked at a griz, he was called for a foul. Yet, Davis is allowed to lower his head and plow into people to clear a way for his shot, but was only called for 2 offensive fouls all nite???? (Note that Davis also only had 2 overall fouls all nite, but that was not bad reffing. Davis never got close enough to anyone on defense to have a foul called on him on that end of the floor.
) The refs also only called the griz guards once for an offensive foul when pushing away with their off arm/elbow. They do this constantly, and it should have been called numerous times. Oh well, the better team still won quite convincingly. They did finally start calling the griz for some cheap stuff in the second half, but I felt the game was out of the griz's reach by that time.

Cats are smoooooth
This was the first time I saw the Cats play, unfortunately it was on TV. I do have to say, this years Cats are the most athletic team I have every seen from MSU. All of the players have speed, they can make offensive moves, and most of they can sky. How about the passing. When did you see a MSU team pass the ball around to the open man so often?

How about the charge Durr took in the second half on Davis? Big turnover......and his role off the bench in the second half was outstanding! His confidence seems better and the Griz strategy of fouling him sure backfired. I hope this kid is on the rise and will get more time as we approach the Big Sky Tournament.HelenaCat wrote: Yet, Davis is allowed to lower his head and plow into people to clear a way for his shot, but was only called for 2 offensive fouls all nite????
