On paper it looks like McGillis had a not so good game in Butte last night 3-13 from the field for 7 points, with Krysco and Durham in the stands. Jeff Edwards a 6-8 soph center for Butte though had a great game with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 8 blocks, leading Butte to a 52-44 win Over Hellgate. Was anyone from this board at the game.

I was at the game. Krystko and assistant Brad Huse as well as Durham and brother Mark (western) were in attendance as well. Could McGillis have played better...Yes. Did he play bad...No. Three of McGillis's shots were last second of quarter shots (all 3's with 2 from half-court). He had 4 great assists (6) with two of them coming from solid drives with last second dishes. He drove and scored on 6'8" Edwards a couple times. They did do a good job of isolating Jack for the most part with double teams. Butte has a great coach with solid players that were in the mind set to win the game. Hellgate tried to win it from outside and went away from their game plan that's won them the last 10 games. McGillis already knows the Griz want him as they are trying to find him a scholarship for his first year (have already guaranteed him one in his second). Durham already knows McGillis is capable of scoring from everywhere and everytime on the court. There were certain things Mick was looking at in Jack last night. Time will tell of how he faired. Is McGillis still on Mick's radar...You betcha!

Enough with ripping on other people's posts!!! Many people here enjoy the information that mthoops and others bring to the table. If you have a personal feud please take it to the smack board or elsewhere. If the personal shots don't stop, we will resort to other measures. Please, keep the discussions focused on the topic at hand!ballzdeep wrote:mthoops- enough with the play by play. REMEMBER you DON'T work for ESPN! I'm sure next time you could limit it to a few sentences. I bet the only reason Jack was a little off, that 7pts could have been 14pts with a few different roles EVERYONE KNOWS THAT, is because he's being stocked by mthoops. 8)

I talked to a frontier conference coach that was at the Butte game last night. He informed me that McGillis DID play bad- 3-13 no matter how you score it is a bad night. I heard McGillis wasn't on the glass at all and looked out of it in general. He only had 12 points against Helena the weekend before>>>how do you explain that? I'm still not sold that he is living up to all the hype because of his recent few games (although he has had very good games earlier in the year)

Compared to an average McGillis night like the way he's played the 10 games before this weekend (25 PPG, 9Rebs, 2 blks, 56% 3pt, 62% FG, 86% FT)......then, Yeah, he's had a relatively bad couple games. We'll see how he bounces back to finish off the season.hoop_fan987 wrote:I talked to a frontier conference coach that was at the Butte game last night. ******** EXCUSE ME WHILE I TALK HELLGATE BASKETBALL ********
So Hoop_fan987, what is the difference in the way Hellgate is playing now vrs. Mid season? It seems to me you talked earlier about how Hellgate may go undefeated for the rest of the season, now you seem very frustrated after one loss. McGillis has had two off games, but Cox came thru last Saturday w/ 35 and Morris scored 18 last night to make up for it. is it Chemistry, Sampson/ coaching, McGillis having off nights, selfishness, or something else. MtHoops you can also give input. Just curiuos my son and I will be checking out the Helena Capital game.hoop_fan987 wrote:I talked to a frontier conference coach that was at the Butte game last night. After watching the Hellgate - Butte game and hearing some other reports about games in the Mining City, I just had to do some research.
These stats are from the conference games only this season.
At home the Butte boys shoot an average of 26.5 free throws a game
their opponents shoot an average of 12.2.
On the road Butte shoots an average of 12.8 free throws a game
their opponents shoot an average of 14.8 free throws a game
Numbers don't lie.
WOW......must be nice to have a home court advantage like that.

This is the same guy who shows up every 2 months or so, if not literally then figuratively. The quickest way to get rid of these folks is to just ignore when they cross that line.

mthoops, why do ask how i think morris played?? do you feel i have some relation to him? i can assure you i don't, i just like the way the kid plays. but as for the butte game, i was unable to watch it, but i heard that he was on in the second half and kept them close, but lost all touch in the second half. thats what i heard.
mslacat, im not sure if there is a big difference in the way that hellgate is playing now compared to mid season. i definitely overreacted about mcgillis having a couple of off games because i watched the capital game, and he was really clicking with everyone. he had 21 i think, so he bounced back nicely. i apologize if i offended any mcgillis follower with my previous posts about him. i got scared, i am a huge knight fan and just wish them the best.
toots, great statistical research on butte. its really a bunch of crap the home court advantage they have

hoop_fan987, I was just curious, that's all. I have read your posts both on here and e-griz.com and it's easy to see you are a big Knights supporter. You have always talked very highly of the Knights as well as McGillis, but recently made it a point on both boards to exploit McGillis's two sub-par games and question his D1 talent because of them, but regarded him as a definite D1 talent prior to them. Just found it interesting, that's all. Nevertheless, Go Knights!hoop_fan987 wrote:mthoops, why do ask how i think morris played?? do you feel i have some relation to him? i can assure you i don't, i just like the way the kid plays. but as for the butte game, i was unable to watch it, but i heard that he was on in the second half and kept them close, but lost all touch in the second half. thats what i heard.

McGillis recently took his recruiting trip with the Griz at the Portland St. game, along with Kellan Hasquet. Jack has yet to visit the Cats. Hopefully because of schedule conflict, but know Mick has plans of making the State Tournament in Billings if he can. It probably depends on how they fare in Portland next week, but not sure what the NCAA schedule is like if they do win it. He may be able to make at least one game regardless.
