Just so MtHoops does not get upset.
Hellgate beat Senior 77-63 last night and will face Helena Capital in the Semi's tonight.
If I may make an obsevation: Folks McGillis is destine to become a Bobcat. The reason I say this is that while coach Sampson may be one of the better coaches in the AA (or at least Missoula) His teams don't know the first thing about rebounding. They rebound on athletic ablity, and not fundimentals. This is an area Jack (or any other Hellgate player we may sign in the future) will need to work on.
Just once I would love to hear a Bobcat coach when discussing a basketball recruit say... " ......and boy this kid is a rebounding monster!"

I saw the game on Omega. Hellgate beats West led by a McGillis scoring spree in the third quarter.
I agree with Msla-that whole team's rebounding fundamentals need some work. But it looked to me like McGillis is the real deal and Durham should have offered him a scholarship a long time ago. But he's got a couple of things working against him: He doesn't go to Bozeman High, and/or he's not a lightly regarded Jr. College player from a state far-far away
I like that Charlie Cox kid too-any kid who can start on a AA team for four straight years should be pretty good. He looks like he could be another Hatler.

McGillis goes. Folks I am not Un-bias when it comes to this matter I always like to see a
Hellgate kid do good, but I really think McGillis would be a great recruit. The kid has a
great package of skills right now that make him a solid d-1 athlete, and with Dissly and
Durr in the program he, would have the opportunity to redshirt and fill out both
physically and skill wise. Plus he has such a huge up side potential. The thing that has
me scared is that about a week and 1/2 I talked a "person in the know" and he knows I
hope McGillis becomes a Cat. As we talked and I was trying to squeeze info about
McGillis / Bobcat, he just said choosing his words carefully " Listen Mslacat, I hope
Durham offers McGillis, too, but remember this is a guy who thought his own son was
not D-1 material!" I really just thought WTF did that mean! Durham has told McGillis
as well as others that he would make his "offers" after the AA tournament. So it should
be interesting.
I want to make a comment on Charlie Cox. He looks D-1 to me! That said though I
SUCK :-& when it comes to figuring out what makes a good 6-0 D-1 player! Over the
year there are tons of 5-10 to 6-2 Montana Athletes I may have thought were or were not
D-1 players and I absolutely tanked it trying to figure out what make a good small d-1
player. That said Charlie can shoot the three, penetrate and score, great ball handler,
terrific passer and this year showed how he could be a great team player. He came into
this season as I believe the leading returning scorer in the AA, but he sacrificed his
scoring this year to become a leader, and averaged close to 10 assists per game. I am
going to assume it is one of those he is too slow and too short things, but I do not think he
is any shorter or any slower that Casey Durham! Can some one else educate me on this matter.

We already have Casey Durham...we don't need three 6 foot guards!mslacat wrote:BelgradeBobcat wrote:..... I am

I guess I am not arguing that we need to sign him, but why isn't someone D-1 recruiting him. Actually I do not mind 6-0 POINT Guards. But 6-0 to 6-2 Shooting Guard, Miller, Jefferson, Durham, are a little much.Helcat72 wrote:mslacat wrote:We already have Casey Durham...we don't need three 6 foot guards!BelgradeBobcat wrote:..... If he wants any of them all he has to do is offer! McGillis is leaning to the Cats. The Griz can not offer anymore scholarships to guards or wings. As far as I know McGillis has not recieved any official offer for scholarships next year yet (Griz have offered one for 2006-07 if he walks-on this year) If Durham is going to do it do it now, I have heard there were plenty of college coaches scoping out the AA this week-end. As for Charlie there is a very good chance he will be playing for Durham next year, (Mark Durham that is).BleedsBlue&Gold wrote:It would be great if he could get at least one of the two.
Getting both might be trickey.

************ Rumor Alert **********
I am not sure whether Durham is even recruiting McGillis anymore. It seems McGillis
has not heard from Durham since the Hellgate / Butte game a few weeks ago. Krysco
has been calling regularly including from the locker room after the Weber Game last
week. McGillis has taken one (of 5 allowed) official NCAA trip to Montana, and one more has been set
up another for Sienna. Coaches from Santa Clara and Santa Barbara were in Billings to
watch him Saturday, and Utah State is trying to arrange for an official visit. McGillis's
goal is to try to take all 5 official visits allowed, the last 4 in the next 2 weeks and then decide. If
this is some secret recruiting technique it is definitely a strange one.

I think there are 4 weeks left to take visits. Durham has said he is waiting until after state to offer scholarships, but not calling to check up on a recruit or wish them luck for their state tourney is definitely strange.mslacat wrote:************ Rumor Alert **********

At this point, be very suprised if we end up with McGillis. The kid is getting looks from Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, and Siena. These are all programs that are much more highly regarded that UM/MSU in the basketball department. If he does stay in state, there is going to be tremendous pressure for him to stay in Missoula as almost his entire family: his sister, his mom, and (most importantly) his grandfather, who practically raised the kid, are huge Griz supporters as most of the family went to the school. I know his dad went to MSU, but Jack is much closer with the other side of the family. THerefore, unless Mick pulls a MAJOR recruiting coup, don't get your hopes up about this kid.
By the way, I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I don't have confidence that Mick can out-recruit Larry for the coveted in-state kids.Just my opinion...
