BelgradeBobcat or other Boz Cats
The article in the Chronicle today says that Mick is only looking to sign one JC, which is good news. Looking at bigger kids also for the most part. The article then says to see the Target list on page B2, which is not on the Internet version. Can anyone from the Bozeman area tell us what this list says?
Lets really hope that Mick and his assistants can find some good kids and start building something special at MSU. I do wish Mick the best and I know we all want the Cats to excel.

For those who read this post in the first hour it was posted I am sorry use of my spell
check went hay wire! I have since gone back and edited it for correct spelling and also
reread the post, and have come to the conclusion that unless you really really like
basketball recruiting this post might be a little dry!
from!? I can tell you one thing if Durham or one of the assistant coaches gave him the
list we have a NCAA violation. Coaches are not allowed to comment or mention on any
recruit until they have been signed by that institution or another. As a matter of fact
college coaches can only mention basic things about a player signed by someone else.
Some random thoughts:
-My initial impression when I looked at the list was that Mr. Welsh got his list from my
running thread on possible Bobcat recruits, (
http://www.bobcatnation.com/bobcatboard ... .php?t=381)
that I have been posting all year long. The reason I say that is that Phillip Okonma who
is a guy I heard early this year that we may be recruiting, but since I have been told
nothing serious became of it (I was told he will go to a much higher profile school). So
did one of my mistakes make it on to Mr. Welsh's list !? Additionally, Dennis Pease 6-8
PF Panola JC, TX is on his list, the lead on this guy was not gotten from the net but, was
given to me by a friend of mine in Texas, and was not that well known. That said
though there are two athletes that I never heard before (Jacques Wilson and Derek
Lorenzen) , , which tends to say he did not get his list from, and that I may not be the
recruiting whiz I thought I was.
-Welsh's recruiting info says two Durham will sign 3 highschool guys and one JC guy.
My source told me that his info was about two weeks old but it would be a JC Big, a JC
wing and 2 high school. I have heard from another source that Durham told him directly,
that he expects to sign a JC wing. My first source is very good and almost always
right, but presumably Welsh got his info from Durham so his source is Better than
mine! That said though he still mentioned Chaz Dykes 6-3 G New Orleans, Navarro JC,
the JC wing that I heard from a friend in Texas that we were very close to having a
commitment.
- Most of the guy's on the list are big time Big Sky players. Dennis Pease is most likely
the exception, a very good player, but will be more of a rebounding, defensive role
player.
- The whole McGillis thing has me irritated: If it is true that Durham will sign 3
highschool players, but is not or may not be going after McGillis hard I will be very
upset. If you have three scholarships designated for high school players, and none of the
need to come in and contribute right away, there is no way a coach from Montana should
not offer McGillis.

I have been digging for a while but I can not add any more than this. I was told by a couple Griz booster (seperately) that the Griz were recruiting hard a JC "big man" who is from Miami. This recruit would be a major get, and was a "Kamar like player". I do not know if he is playing for a Miami JC or is a guy who home town is in Miami. I have had a couple names as possiblities, but I can not link the names to the Griz (more or less dart board guesses). I know there is a 6-9 JC guy out of Oregon who I posted earlier who the griz have been in contact with this winter, but I am really not that impressed by him. He sounds more like a Sedgeberge (SP?), Towsley type.grizwhiz wrote:mslacat-can you provide any info regarding the "big man" jc recruit the GRIZ are after? Thanks!
Sorry if I find anything else out I will let you know!

I don't know if the Cats gave up on Hasquet. Welsch's list was not a complete all knowing list. I have heard that McGilllis, though did move ahead of Hasquet on the list. Hasquet may still be on there list but may not be on the top of the list.Highlineballer wrote:The cats give up on Hasquete? Seemed to me they had offered him a scholarship. Did they pull their offer, or was that just a rumor?

They will not redshirt Pratt.....he is a junior going to be a senior.BelgradeBobcat wrote:Durham on The Sports Nuts today indicated they were recruiting a JC off guard and a JC forward. He said they are also looking at signing 2 high school players that he hopes to redshirt.
He mentioned that several current players have a redshirt available-Pratt, Miller, Holmes...

I don't know I could see Pratt redshirted before he redshirted Miller. Pratt is a role player.MSU88 wrote:They will not redshirt Pratt.....he is a junior going to be a senior.BelgradeBobcat wrote:Durham on The Sports Nuts today indicated they were recruiting a JC off guard and a JC forward. Right now he far to frail to play to be counted on to play 30 minutes a game. With Beye,
Morris and Moss back next year, and one of his #1 priorities being a Big forward minutes
could get hard to come by as the fifth option. Further more Durr has kind of made a place
for himself as a role player playing both forward positions. Then add to the mix what if
Pratt gets beat out by the freshman Big player we recruit. All in all if they could redshirt
Pratt it would give us another experienced player when Moss and Beye graduate, and if
Durham and company could get him to put on some 20 lb. of muscle we could have a
very nice player for 2006-07. Not sure it will happen but I would consider it if I was the coach.
Holmes may have to out play the highschool guard to avoid a redshirt.
Boy I like 14 D-1 players!!!!!

Option, options options, and let the player compete for positions I mean hell if we sign a
good enough PF even Moss may not be guaranteed a starting spot.

Durham rattled off several names that haven't yet used their redshirt year-maybe he was sending a message to his players.
I could see Holmes and Durr reshirted next year. I think they could benefit the most from a reshirt.
Like Msla said, redshirting Pratt is at least intriguing, but would Pratt go for it. I think Pratt still has a pretty good upside.

Is Mick really going to redshirt anyone who has even a chance of contributing something to the team next year? We all know Mick will again be feeling the heat next year, and all signs point to next year's team having a great chance to do really well. I would be kind of surprised to see Mick redshirt someone like Pratt who could definitely contribute something to the team next year, although I'm not sure exactly how much he will do. Pratt did step in and make some big plays in a few games, but I think a year to add some bulk and develop his game would help our program in the long-term. I like planning for the long-term, if that isn't clear by now. I also think Holmes probably shouldn't redshirt next year. I was really impressed by what I saw from him in limited time this year, and I think he should back up Miller (who no way in hell will redshirt) next year at the point. He is a much, much better point guard than Casey Durham (who isn't really a point guard per se). Casey should spell Ja'Ron at the 2 when we need some more defense and hopefully should become a more consistent 3-point threat. Casey also needs to hit the weight room hard this off-season. I like Casey's fire and his will to win, but he needs to learn to play more cool-headed and look for open shots in the flow of the offense (as does most of the whole team).
I have to think that Mick is thinking "Championship" next year, and I would think that he will play whoever he has to in order to acheive that. I'm not totally opposed to that, so long as he doesn't compromise the long-term success of the program to do that. This team, this program, this school, and all Bobcat fans deserve a Big Sky Championship, and I would love to see Mick make that happen. Knowing all this, I would hope that Mick and Peter Fields do a much better job with scheduling competitively next year so that our RPI isn't one of the worst in the country, so that if we do make the tourney, maybe we could garner a #13 (or gasp, a #12) seed and have a real chance at winning a game or making some noise. Whatever the case, I would also like to see that Mick plans for the future, so that we don't have to go another 10 years before seeing the tournament again. And yes, I like to order my cake and then eat it.
