That would be unfortunate, but it does happen. Kids sign letters of intent on signing day and then circumstances change. Maybe a scholarship opens up closer to home. Maybe they want to play right away. Maybe a D 1 or FBS scholarship gets offered to them. Considering this is a rumor, maybe confirmation will come that he is indeed coming.

Well, after reading the tone of the recent article that was written about him coming to MSU, I can't say I'm that surprised. (too lazy to find a link, sorry!)
The article made it sound like it would be some sort of monumental challenge for a black kid from California to come in here and make a good name for himself.
We all know how blown out of proportion an assertion like that is, and he said he was up to the challenge; but I can understand why a kid wouldn't want to get near a town like Bozeman after all the negative exposure of the past year.
Oh well, at least Kroon and navyT will be happy to know that we've scared off yet another out of state kid.

I don't get that tone at all GD.

Svoboda, who had been an offensive coach at UCLA, where he got familiar with the Bell family, knew of Kahlil's younger brother's prowess. He convinced Darius to make a mid-February visit to the beautiful 1,781-acre campus located in Montana's Gallatin Valley.
Once he visited Bozeman and liked just about everything, from the campus and the community to the coaches and players he met, Bell was pretty sure what he wanted to do. After a family outing to Los Angeles and dinner with his big brother, Bell returned home and on Feb. 24 he inked a national letter of intent and accepted a full scholarship to become a Montana State Bobcat this coming fall.
Not only will Bell get an opportunity to show those who thought he should settle for the scholarship on defense that he is a big-time quarterback, but he will get a chance to give the community of Bozeman a new outlook on recruits.
"It's a chance to show what I can do for me personally and also to make a new and better name for African-American athletes," saidBell , who plans on studying ancient history with an eye on becoming a history teacher and football coach when his playing days are over.
"I plan on earning respect. It's something I've had to do all my life," Bell told SportsScope.

I bolded the parts that concern me. Do you think the notion that African-American athletes have a bad rap in Bozeman is a good thing?Hawks86 wrote:I don't get that tone at all GD.

Like I said, I really like the kids attitude. It's the idea that Bozeman is now portrayed as a place where black kids need to somehow live with and overcome an unfair racial stigma that bothers me.

I agree that this all stems from the S.I. article. It's a bad wrap that we're going to have to live down for a few years, I'm afraid.Hawks86 wrote:I see your point GD. I think the reporter probably based these comments solely on the S.I. article. As far as Bell, I hope he's still coming and welcome him to add to the increasingly positive attitude toward all Bobcats in the community.
D.B. would be the type of high profile player that could really come in and make a positive impact not only for the team, but for the University and City of Bozeman.

The second bolded remark is a direct quote. Unless it is really taken out of context, I don't see a problem with it. You could actually read it as a leadership quality.GavinDonos wrote:I bolded the parts that concern me. You are absolutely correct....I am afraid that the tone of the SI article may have planted this idea in the mind of some kids. I am sure that Ashley Croon is delighted, since Bell's scholarship might now go to a "good old Montana farm boy". Seriously though, don't you think that having eight QB (until recently) on our roster may have had more to do with him leaving (if this is true)? You had to know that probably not all of them would stick around.GavinDonos wrote:Again, I realize that, but my point is that now this is the impression that our recruits have of Bozeman. In my mind that isn't a good thing.

I'm not all convinced based on one posters rumor, but I also wouldn't put too much on the roster listing- Rasmussen, Hoffenbacker & Smith are still on it it and Kempt hasn't been added to it.coachouert wrote:Still on the roster as of today. All hearsay at this point imo.Bay Area Cat wrote:Is there any kind of verified information saying that he won't be coming, or are we still relying exclusively on the rumor floated by the first poster?

With out rumors this board would be pretty empty, besides, I do not think we are spreading rumors in this thread as much as we are debating rumors.New Bobcat Fan wrote:You guys are too much. Spreading unfounded rumors. Summer school starts Mon right?
