New Logo
I just heard that the university will be presenting the "finalists" for the new school logo. I believe that they are presenting the logos today at 3:30 in one of the SUB ballrooms and then tonight at 6:00 in the alumni building (I think). It is open to the public, and I would really suggest making an appearance, because the logos that I have seen so far have been terrible, and there's no way that I would want any one of these representing my MSU.

I'm not sure what is on the website yet, but I think this has the link to the appropriate website:

I hope the new logo depicts more of the college than the surrounding area this time around. I could not stand the "Mountains and Minds" slogan; what does MSU produce? Maybe it's just me, but it appears the school has lost sight of it's mission statement and the comical picked a few of the grunts that work on campus to comment. Must be getting too cynical...

I think that you are FAR too cynical. The comical did not "pick a few gunts" to comment. The comments were from people in the audience who were asking questions, and making to the comments to the design group during the question and answer period. The chronicle did not pick people out of the crowd and interview them.Cat Grad wrote:I hope the new logo depicts more of the college than the surrounding area this time around. Also, I personally really like the tag line of "mountains and minds." I challenge you to find a better tag line that is unique to the MSU campus, and also can be used to recruit students to MSU.

I'd like a tractor running over our accountants, engineers and other products (figuratively) to include, but not limited to more than a few of our microbiology students working in classrooms/labs designed by some or our architects digging up dinosaurs in our oil and coal fields...following General Paul Funk...oh well...

I think that's too long for a tag line. I think they're looking for something that is 3-5 words in length.Cat Grad wrote:I'd like a tractor running over our accountants, engineers and other products (figuratively) to include, but not limited to more than a few of our microbiology students working in classrooms/labs designed by some or our architects digging up dinosaurs in our oil and coal fields...following General Paul Funk...oh well...

...but, but, a picture's worth a thousand words...and we do world renowned reseach that builds on our past accomplishments! Besides, MSU is not just a location in the Valley. We graduate, leave but we're always home at least in our minds. Nobody can erase the collegiate memories but when we leave we know in our hearts we're charged with making the entire world a better place. We're always going forward instead of resting on our agrarian roots

Here is the website to view the new logo finalists. This was their entire power point presentation, so you'll have to click the "next" arrow a few times. Also, you are able to submit any feedback on the last page, and I encourage everyone to take advantage of that.

I actually didn't mind either of them, but I like the compass one better. I like the way it incorporates the more classic M into its design. I really liked the entire presentation -- they did a good job of showing the logos in the context of how the public would view them.
Neither design blew me away, but I certainly can't think of anything better than what they came up with.
