Mick's stats

Post by orsalak » Wed Mar 30, 2005 2:34 pm

I think that we need to have a forum on Mick Durham. I don't want to know about your opinions about Mick I would like to know FACTS about his stint as the Bobcats head coach. We all know that he is the winningest coach in Big Sky history, but what is his winning %, who has the most losses in Big Sky history and where is Mick on that list.
I believe that Benjamin Franklin said when you have an important decision to make get a piece of paper and write the pro's on one side and the con's on the other. Let's do that about Mick. So we can all make an informed decision on him as a head coach.
Mslacat will be instramental in this thread I am sure however any facts that anyone on this board has will be helpful. Thank you in advance.

What is the important decision to make? I don't seem Mick's job as being in jeopardy this year. Although, if we have a disapointing season next year, I think that there will be an important decision to make.

Wait until the completion of the "two year plan."

Not that I have any decision to make about his career at MSU. There is a a decision about how I feel about his job personaly. I am not really sure how I feel about him and like I said I don't want to know about opinions but I would like to see the facts about him.
The only reason I bring this up is it seems many people on this board are not happy with Mick and I would like to see what there reasons are.

OK OK I am not trying to start a fight here. But I kept my mouth shut during the season because many people felt like it was not right to talk about this during the season. Now the season is over and they are now saying it still isn't a good time to talk. I know that he is not going to be fired any time soon and I am not trying to say he should or shouldn't. I am simply trying to form an opinion about him because some love Mick and some hate him. I have only been following the cats for 4 years. Two years were good and two were bad.

No offense directed at you ors, but it seems to me this topic was talked about so much during the season, and shortly thereafter, everyone is just kind of worn out about talking about it.

Basically I'm too tired to argue or listen to any arguments about it anymore, but I will say this - Mick helped himself this year, he calmed a lot of critics and bought himself a year or two more to get back in our good graces.

Yeah, I'm kind of tired reading what we all have said one way or the other about our coaches and the style of ball they teach. I meant in a rather sarcastic tone midseason that I really don't think any of us are in a position to influence the Prez or even Poor Peter and some goofball Fizzlie Fan jumped into our "discussion." Besides, I don't ever want to get in a position again where I have to hire and fire people--gotta love the fact that Casey's a fourth generation Cat 8) That'll buy a lot of losses, in my book. Love loyalty.

Durham
i have been going to basketball game for a long time and I have something to say about coach Durham that I think everyone shoud pay close attention to.

Why are some of us bobcat fans bagging on our coach. he runs a clean program and is a great person in the community. He is from the state and always gives great effort to get MT players. He has done a hell of a job in a tough conf over the years and I think we should stick by him. What more do people want He is a true BOBCAT and that is very important to me! I hope he retires here and for all of those that ridcule him instead of spending time on the computer knocking a good thing the Cats have why dont you find a way to help give the hoops program more money to build a stronger program. what do you want a guy from the east that doesnt care about our state or school but is here fro 3 to five years and moves on. Come on people let support what we got and quit whinning about a good coach!!

That is because you are a stats person...an individual person...no team concept!

i havent been posting here for long but i do think there should be some rules on this bord

1) no more threads about mick durham
2) no more threads about heysell/kramer

i think personally that a thread like this is only started because sombody wants to pick a fight and that is not cool. these topics have been discussed at length and everybody knows how everybody feels about them.

This thread is not going the way I wanted it to at all.

You need to read my first post in this thread. I was not trying to pick a fight I was trying to gather infomation to form an an opinion. It sounds to me that people replying were trying to start the fight.
There are a lot of people on here that know a lot about the Cats (more then me at least). I thought that this would be a good place to start getting informed on the subject and find out if all of the hatred that some feel twards Mick is warranted or not. There have been no threads "that I have seen" that just talk about the facts related to this subject. I wanted to see things like his graduation rate and winning %. I was trying to get rid of the post of how Hells Bells felt about Mick or if Mslacat thought that Coach Durham should lose his job tomorrow. It didn't work so lets let this go.

Long-time reader, first-time poster. Let me start by taking a second to thank those that have put in the sweat equity to start and manage this site. Lots of us whine and complain about what should be done to improve Bobcat athletics but you guys have stepped up and done something very positive for the Bobcat community.

I have a strong opinion on the subject of Mick and the state of our hoops program but I agree that the subject has been beat to death on this board. However, in specific response to orsalak's initial question, I do have some stats to share. I ran these last year by digging through the media guide so I could have some numbers for a discussion with my buddies. I took a moment to update the numbers with this year's results. I didn't take the time to double-check since the process was tedious but I'm confident the numbers are accurate within an acceptable margin of error. The numbers are below so you can interpret them as you wish:

Overall road record: 65-111
Conference road record: 38-77
Overall conference record: 112-98
Conference tourney: 6-8
Record in games decided by 5 or less: 48-48
Cat/Griz: 15-19
Final regular season conference standings: 7th 5 times, 6th twice, 5th once, 4th twice, 3rd 3 times, 2nd once, 1st twice
Overall record: 231-198
Overall record when you subtract the 36-0 record in preseason games vs NAIA teams from the Frontier Conference: 195-198

Go Cats! FTG!

I'd be curious to know how many times he played for the tourney title...I know he won it once.
