I love the cats with all my heart and I want to give a suggestion to all the fans. Mostly a bit of humor and would everybody that reads this think of some ideas we as fans could put together to help make MSU the BEST IN THE BIG SKY!!

1) To compete in the big sky you need to be able to recruit this means $$$
advice - give a couple hundred to MSU and stay out of the bar for two weekends out of the year!

2)Be proud to be a Cat and lets start finding ways as fans to convince the downtown to show it's support all years
advice- People who own business paint them blue and gold from august to may what the heck make it all year

3)Raise you kids right
advice- if you are from bozeman you should raise bobcats anything else is just the same as getting an F in basketing weaving

4)Where our teams Play
advice- buy the tickets and make sure that if you dont use them that someone is we are statring to really have some success and we can build on this, kids can win games and make it darn hard for other teams if the roof is beeing blown off the barn!

5)reply
i was wodering what this community can do to really get behind our school, there is no reason that we can not build the best place in the BIG SKY and dominate othere schools. We are way better that all but one school and with some community support + recent success we could make MSU athletics AWESOME any ideas???

hey someone on here has a cousin that knows his sister that made it with the movie star that wants to give a school lots of money!

You're Crazy! In all seriousness, I am a poor college student who can barely afford lunch. But when I graduate and get a real world job, I plan on donating plenty to MSU, I love MSU and will until the day I die.

I think we should do more parade type things to celebrate and honor sports teams, even if they haven't done great. Face it though, a lot of people from out of state are used to going to pro games, or even big college games. I know many people who don't go to Bobcat sporting events simply because "Bobcats suck". They just don't realize this is as good as it gets in Montana (they same the same thing about the Griz).
3)Raise you kids right

I am a kid! Well not really since I can drink, but I'm close enough.

Same as #2.

Making the games more exciting to be at. The football team does all it can, but at basketball games the announcers and what not don't do much to get the crowd crazy. Play more music, turn more lights on, brighten the place up! Football games - better music, less music, more fan game type things. Get us involved!

We need to hit Dennis Erickson up. I heard Hysell is doing well too?

I want to send some money to MSU but if they insist on spending $26,000 on a new logo that could have been done by our graphic arts department I have to question if they need any more at this point. I may wait a year or two.

Ok, I am guessing this was tongue in cheek, but to anyone who may think like this just remember the whole logo thing is for the general University, not Athletics. The $26,000 would have come out of University money and I would be willing to bet that anyone in Athletics would have loved to have had that money to help with the many costs they face, or just to pull down the debt by another 26 grand.

The $26,000 was probably part of the budget for the past fiscal year.

First of all, let me ask that you bear with me as my bias is to football and so generally are my comments. Being an Oregonian, I have watched as alumni have stepped up to make the football facilities at both Oregon (Phil Knight/Nike) and Oregon State (Paul Reeser/Reeser Foods) into the envy of many of the top college programs.

As a fairly new Bobcat dad, I'm not familiar with the alumus from MSU, but surely MSU must have its equivelent to Knight and Reeser. That said, I have a two part question... Who are the very successful/wealthy MSU Alumni and what (if anything) is the athletic department doing to court this source of revenue?

Yes it was....just had to throw it out there. I know that came from a totally different budget. Just had to be a pain and bring it up again.

Pose this question to Peter Fields, I'm curious too.

We have many filthy rich graduates and friends of the university; however, and I must be careful as our athletic department I'm sure reads this when they want a yuck or three--doesn't do a very good job sucking up to their egos just for a few bucks  Guess it comes down to: "How bad do you want it?" Anyone checked out your latest alumni address book? What would everyone in Montana say if our coaches started attending booster functions in Atlanta or some of the other locations our graduates are forced to move to in order to secure jobs in their fields after graduation? We're not a local university anymore.

I do not agree with the way MSU has been spending their money. I don't mind the $26000 they spent on the new school logo, but they also want to spend about $12 million to rennovate the Student Union Building. The building doesn;t really need it and I think they could be spending their money on other things like the football stadium or the field house. Also, I have heard that AD Peter Fields wants to put a pivot system on the south bleachers of the football stadium which would provide more seating for track and field events. It would probably cost just as much to put in new bleachers close to the track and use the money to close off the corners of the football field.

Since becoming a Bobcat football Dad, I've given a considerable thought to facilities. In particular, what one project could the athletic department dedicate itself to that would benefit the players and fans and at the same time give the coaching staff an edge in recruiting. It's probably been a thread on this forum before but I'd like to see the university dome the stadium.

This is a little off subject, but still in the support topic. This weekend’s scrimmage at GTF, and banquet is a great way to show fan support. We need to fill up memorial stadium and show higher attendance than the bad guys.

This could be our first fund raising event. I found a new mascot. One that will not scary the kids.

A domed stadium would never fly here in Montana. The outdoor stadium is nice looking and a domed stadium takes away from the Montana outdoors look and feel to the sport and university.

Longhorn is right, that things is ugly as hell. We should just get rid of the mascot like we did with the cheerleaders...

What you have to realize is that the $12 million being spent on the SUB is being paid for in large part by the students and is competely separate from the Athletic Department's funds. I also disagree with you. The SUB is the hub of student activity on campus and can be a major attraction for potential students. The current building does not convey a super positive image of MSU and needs to be remodeled. I think if you talk to most potential, current, and recently graduated students they would all agree that the SUB needs the remodel.

On the question of what one thing could benefit MSU players, coaches, fans, etc. I think it would be a complete overhaul of the fieldhouse or even a new basketball arena and offices. If we had a building that was designed for basketball it would improve the gameday experience at basketball games(which can be a recruiting tool). Also this building would house updated weight and training facilities for the other teams as well as new offices for the coaches and admins. Overall I think this would provide the most "bang for the buck". Just a dream though as I don't see this happening any time soon. You will all have to wait for me to win the lottery I guess. RTB Arena will be sweet!! LOL

I could be wrong, but I think they re-modeled the Fieldhouse in 1997 or around then. The offices were in trailers on the property during the renovation. I can't imagine another renovation anytime soon.....

You are right they did remodel it then, just didn't do much in terms of making it a better place to watch basketball. Again, I just we suggesting the one thing that could be beneficial to the largest number of people in my opinion. Not that I am expecting it to be done.

You can't change the configuration to make it more of a basketball arena without deleting the multi-purpose aspect of it. In order to keep indoor track and field and the possibility of having rodeos in it, we have to keep the present seating configuration. Also the upper seating area is permanent...it's justthe way it was built. It was originally planned to play football in it, but they found it was too short to accommodate the end zones. I'm just glad we didn't end up with another abortion like in Pocatello!
