How long will Kramer be in Bozeman?

Post by BleedsBlue&Gold » Wed Apr 27, 2005 1:57 pm

Just a question to kick around, how long do you think Kramer will be around?

He has done a great job with the program, despite an overall average record. I really don't see him getting a shot at a Pac 10 school, maybe WAC, Mountain West at best. His key to a good offer would be a strong finish to a season and run deep into the playoffs.
I wonder what opportunites he would have had with a playoff win or two the past three years.

I have just never felt Kramer is in the program for the long run, although it is very hard when you are only offered year to year contracts.

My guess, we will have a new coach in the next 4years.

I believe this man; at one of the functions I went to earlier this year, he was asked whether he'd take another position. Talked about his friend Mick Dennehy and another former head coach now an assistant someplace. Stated he'd like to stay in Bozo for about ten more years and then go drive tractors someplace--that he'd pay to drive tractors  He's also reached the point in his career where schools call him and ask if he's interested in vacancies but he doesn't have any desire to leave Bozo. He's a good match for MSU and we're lucky to have him--but that's just my opinion.

I'd say if we win (or share) the BSC title this season, he'll "get an offer he can't refuse". Anything other than that, and I think he'll be a long shot at any 1A school and I really don't think he'd leave Bozeman for another 1AA position. As long as he keeps the Cats in the playoffs (or at least in contention), I think he'll be a candidate for a "small" (non-Pac 10 or any BCS conference) school. There is a TON of competition for those spots, however, so I think you're right, challenging for the NC a season or 2 may be necessary for the Big Human to make the jump...

It's not just the 1 year contract (although that is DEFINITELY a factor) that hurts us, but the pay SUCKS when compared to even the smallest 1A schools. Look at the contract Dennehy got! Kramer is 10X the coach/recruiter/mouthpiece that Dennehy was/is. I'm guessing Idaho will be 'in the market' soon and I've just always felt that's where he'd end up.

As I've always said, we gave Hysell 8 years; based on ALL factors, on & off the field, we should just grant Kramer a lifetime contract; just give us as much notice as possible, OK Mike?

All in all, bleeds, I'd agree with you; I simply can't see him still at the helm at MSU in 4 years.

Despite Kramer's less than stellar record, I feel he has done a great job at Bozeman. He has really brought in the cash and recognition to the program and injected it with some life.

If Kramer is around for 4 more years, I will consider that one heck of a tenure for a Big Sky Conference coach.

Kramer is a great recruiter, and I am sure other schools know that he can bring in quality players and find good assistants. I hope he stays, but I am sure if the right opening came along he would take it. He has been great for Bobcat atheletics, but if he moves on, I am confident that Peter Fields will find us another Kramer that could even take us to the next level

My guess is MSU goes after Van Diest HARD once Kramer is gone.

I've always been impressed with Kramer. Watching that show "The season" showed that he works very hard and he's good with the press.
I like his personality.
I was one that wanted him in Missoula when he left Eastern.

I see Van Diest heading for Missoula if Hauck moves on. If Hauck stays at Missoula for more than 4 more years, I feel Van Diest, depending on his father's health, will look at Wyoming before he'd take the job at Bozeman IMO. His son will be a freshman at Carroll next year and his dad lives in East Helena. I think he's pretty happy in Helena for the time being.

I think that Kramer will take a good offer from a team that can win. I don’t see him going to an Idaho or Utah State; those programs are death sentences to coaches. I think that he would look long and hard at an okay mid major college, because the pay is so much better. I think that Kramer will most likely be gone in 3 years or less.

No way is Hauck in Missoula in 4 years. His ego is way too big to keep him at little old I-AA school (just listen to his interview before the championship game last year), or he is fired due to lack of production.

I dont see any coach staying long in Missoula. Either they win and move on, or lose and get fired (short fuse). The boosters there wouldnt stand for a couple 2-3 years in a row of missing playoffs or 6-5 seasons.

Look at how all the ney-sayers jumped on Hauck 2 seasons ago when they lost a home playoff game in round 1.

He does have a great personality, and it is genuine.

His record may not show it, but he has completely turned around this program. I dont know how Mike would have done in Missoula. I dont see him as a coach who would want to go into a place and maintain the program, but rather a coach to go in a turn around a program. You are defintely given a lot more slack when trying to turn around a program (unless you are Notre Dame) versus trying to maintain the high standards.

Sound like most people think that Krames will be gone in the next 3-4 years. I to am optimistic that the job will be very attractive to an up and coming coach.

Do you think Bailey and Coach K (the d-coor) will stick with Kramer unitl he moves on? Leave before? or move on with Kramer?

I am getting a little nervous would could lose one or both any year. They have both done a great job and deserve a shot at some bigger jobs, if that is what they are after.

Any chance eitherone could replace Kramer someday?

I think Coach K, and his staff, have done a great job and Coach K is a Bobcat! It'll take something pretty significant to get him away from MSU. Unfortunately with the pay schedule offered, and the one year contract, it always makes things tenuous. I hope we can keep the staff we have, but they always have to look out for themselves- I just appreciate their efforts while we have them.

Hauck, on the other hand, will bail at the first chance like every other Griz coach, because he has the typical Griz arrogance (my apologies to Don Read, who despite my hate of the Griz I respect as a coach and gentleman).

I hope Krames & staff have a great season, but success always brings offers of a better deal, which definitely catches the attentionof assistants looking to advance.

ARE YOU KIDDING??? Maybe (just maybe) coach K BUT Bailey???? I have never heard one booster who liked Bailey. I doubt that would happen.
