Here is a good response to this found on the Billings Gazette.
Seems like an awful lot of jealousy by some cat fans on this blog. Its too bad, really. The rest of the world, big and small, recognizes the consistent success over the years of the Grizzly program, as well as respecting the sheer accomplishment of it all. It’s too bad there aren’t more class cat fans to acknowledge this feat. I take my hat off at this writing (I have my fingers crossed that a few more cat fans will take the upper road and acknowledge and the appreciate the accomplishment…these were the only ones to do so as of this writing, but I have faith that fairness was taught in Montana schools) to bad news cats, Billings Bobcat (the one and only, the original, or course!!), and even to the welcome addition to this blog, the newcomer Wildcat Fan, who can set aside their own biases and respect the quality of the game, and the accomplishment that NO OTHER TEAM IN THE COUNTRY, big or small, has accomplished. It’s humorous to see agonizing kitties stewing about the prospect of Hauck leaving to a bigger program. Lord knows where Kramer is now, and that at this rate Ash would be hard pressed to get a coaching job at any other FCS school, much less anything bigger, based on what’s happened under him at MSU.

And, I’m sure I speak for everyone as we all thank the writer and the submitter of such a well-written and factually documented article to represent the hopes of the kitties dying pride. I might be wrong, but I thought the name of the kid they so factually disparage is J.D. Quinn. Last I knew J. D. Drew was a major league baseball player. But, the author is a sports writer, right. He can’t be wrong. It might also serve to note that that bulldozer driver referenced as the cash impetus for the Grizzly program also offered to be that same cash impetus for the bobcats, who just didn’t seem smart enough to recognize the opportunity. Too bad. They’ll be paying for that mistake for years to come, even when they are playing in D-II. And both the poser writing the referenced article and the unbiased (excuse me…there’s something in my throat when I say those words) kitty fan who has presented it here, calling Don Reed a hack is like not recognizing that most sports writers are just kids who didn’t get to play much if at all growing up, so they never learned to move on, or saying that Sonny Holland was a better janitor than a coach. Both remarks are ridiculous! Their opportunity to make a sports statement in life didn’t come on the field. It came from behind a typewriter. Sportswriters are, after all, the journalistic version of a used car salesman in most, but not all, cases. Hell, look how he used the rest of the inadequate Big Sky conference teams to make himself look like he knew what he was talking about, and chastise the Grizzlies. Perhaps instead of trying to wipe his own shoes on someone else’s reputation and record, he might try actually presenting the points in a fair manner. The Griz didn’t control the recruiting at the other schools in the conference. The other teams did. If their program didn’t get any better, than obviously it is because of that nasty Don Reed and those poor Grizzlies, along with all the coaches and players who have followed, who must have bribed every other team in the conference every year to allow them to beat them and advance in the playoffs. If that were the case, you better check the character of those people representing every other school in the conference and a few outside the Big Sky, as well. Attack their character and see how far that gets you. Can we help it if the MSU Athletic Director (as well as a damned fair amount of their fans) doesn’t know the name of the game is to get through the season, …the entire season, with as few loses as possible to get into and win the playoffs. Let us clue you in, boys. The Griz system works. Look at the two RECENT National Championship trophies in their cases just to show you and let you finally accept that the only people who think the Griz haven’t outsmarted you all, is you. And, honestly, your reputation as football smarts really hasn’t been very unblemished of late, now has it?

The rest of the sporting world looks to the Griz program in admiration, and to the bobcat program in laughter, racial tension (see the Sports Illustrated, but please keep in mind, it was written by a sports writer, too) and failure. Perhaps the consternation in catville should be directed at good ol’ A.D. Fields. And, acting blindly as though the placement in the playoffs was simply by winning non-conference games, rather than beating pretty much everybody in the Big Sky Conference (MSU, EQU, ISU, NAU, WSU, PSU, SSU, and UNC) on a very consistent basis, aside from having the capacity to host the important part of the season. And speaking of that ‘cupcake schedule’ do you bobcats prefer peanut butter, jam or marmalade to swim in with your morning coffee since its been unquestionably clear that the frosting on top of that cup cake, year in, and year out, for the Grizzlies as been those mangy ol’ bobcats. Get better, kitties, and you won’t have to be so self-deprecating. Get a few more students to class and you’d be smart enough to realize how foolish this argument is to make on your side since year after year you get beaten by those cupcake-lovin’ Grizzlies (in that regular season you want to overlook) aside from helping you recruit some talent by being off academic probation and being allowed a few more scholarships. Of course, we realize that the article will only serve those not already aware of the Grizzly tradition of excellence to look through the record books over those years and cause all cat fans to relive the never-ending nightmare called the Grizzlies. A whole new, big crop of Grizzly-lovers to carry on the tradition. Thanks BB2. We appreciate it.

And, didn’t you find it interesting that while naming every violation of the law by anyone even thinking of being a Griz, that not one word….not one mention was made of the assistant head coach at MSU now sitting in a jail cell for selling drugs to Montana’s youth as close to being on campus as possible. Or how about the senseless murder in Bozeman by multiple representatives of the fine athletic program honoring our state as enforcement to their very own drug operation? We, as Grizzly fans, don’t support illegal behavior by anyone, and are sickened to death of it. There are a great many of us that would love to see Bobby Hauck move on, but we at least have the strength of character to be fair-minded about it. We can afford to be. We aren’t jaded by decades of loss and public embarrassment.

We, as Grizzly fans, don’t uniformly support Bobby Hauck. Far, far from it. But to do such a hack job on a great program to get a byline or to think you present yourself well in public among your fellow alumni, while taking every shortcut, misrepresentation and cheap shot in doing so, doesn’t make you look smart, or funny, or even worthy of being accepted by other, more fair-minded fans of your own team. It does, however, speak volumes about why the cat’s program has achieved its record over the last 25 years.

doesn't a 'good response' require a little more in depth reading........considering it was written by a UW fan

Right - that's a real good response. Mostly a bunch of smack, followed by minimizing the troubles of the Griz while pointing to the Cats, saying "look what they did!!" Why would the writer of that post mention MSU? He was talking about Grizzly Head Coach Bobby Hauck, all the trouble he has brought into Zootown, and why UW fans do not want a man who recruits these type of people to be the Huskies next Head Coach. Answer me this question; How much trouble has Coach Ash brought into Bozeman in his time in Bozeman? NONE. NADA. ZILCH. Yet, as recently as a few months ago, we were hearing about scholarship Griz football players gang-beating the crap out of someone.

I am not proud of the past history of some of MSU's former players and Mr. O'Brien. However, since Ash took the helm, NOTHING like this has happened. In fact, he has weeded out a few players (who WERE NOT his recruits), nipping possible future problems in the bud. Yet Coach Hauck keeps giving JD Quinn chances to screw up, even after 3 or 4 (or 5, or 6 or 7......) chances to shape up.

You tell me where the problem lies, and where the writer of the original post was wrong....

I'd rather have a hated coach than lose to my in-state rivals 2/3rds of the time. 3 wins in 20+ years...ugh. I bet Rocky does better against Carroll. Ok, that's a stretch but you know what I mean.

Oh, and I'm w/ BH:

Wow, of all people, I wouldn't think you were that shallow, BG.

I said nothing about "hating" Hauck, nor did person who wrote the original post. What I spoke to - as did the original author - was his apparent lack of concern about the character of the young men he recruits to play at UM. But hey, as long as he and his teams beats MSU most of the time, who cares, right?

Future inmates? Future? Can you shoot me tonight lotto winners, too?

W/ the luck we've (UM/MSU) had the last five years, I'm not sure if I'd be going down that road.

I believe that since the termination of kramer and hiring of Ash our program has been doing pretty well. I can't recall too many run ins with police. The griz this year have had a number of "issues" that we heard about. I always find it interesting how someway they get out of trouble. That is something that all of you "pink" wearing folks should be proud of! The carpet that it is gettin swept under must be getting pretty big.

I'd call this A response, not a particularly good one. The fact the author must resort to calling MSU the "kitties" or by not capitalizing the word Bobcats undercuts the point he's trying to make.

Hauck doesn't have a shot in hell of being head coach at UW, and anyone with an ounce of objectivity knows that. As for "the rest of the sporting world looking at the Griz in admiration", give me a break. If you've spent any time out of the state of MT, you know that the only people that give a crap about the Griz OR the Cats are Montanan's and each school's alums. That's ok.

It's also amusing to hear a Griz fan discount Bobcat national titles because they were earned before the Griz titles were. As if any Griz fan will discount the achievements of their team in ANY way as the years go by. By all means discount the other guys achievements, but not UM. Heavens no..... =D^

I'll bet you $100 Bobby Hauck will not be named the next head coach of the Washington Huskies.

I agree with you. BH will not be the head man at UW. Not because he isn't the best candidate, but because UW fans, boosters and administrators are arrogant a-holes who still think that gig is a plum job and that they can get Bill Belechick to take it. None of that changes the fact that Hauck is under consideration, and many people close to the program (including 2 of the best QBs in the program's history) think enough of him to mention him #1 among candidates discussed.

Man, some of you cats just cannot admit that good things happen to Grizzlies.

It's because "grizzlies" and "good" never belong in a sentence together in a Bobcat vocabulary. Just giving you a heads up here 8)

No, good things can happen to good grizzly coaches. Such as Krystkowiak. A great coach and a great guy. He got thrown into a bad situation in Milwaukee, and will bounce back strong, of this I have no doubt.

Coach Glenn was a good coach, and he is barely treading water at Wyoming - although a great win at Tennessee this last weekend. Coach Hack, although he has improved quite a bit as a coach over the last few years, is still not a great coach - certainly not as good as his record would indicate. I give him credit for what he has done this season, because I would have bet money the griz would have 3 losses by now, so the man does have some coaching chops. But by no means does that qualify him for the head job at the University of Washington. I still think Lane Kiffin will get the gig.

Oh yeah, you're a GRIZH8R. You don't just hate BH, you hate the coaches, players, managers, fans, ticket takers, ushers, administration. Who'd I forget oh shallow one?
Again, another Griz fan, another tapout. I guess you can't fix stupid.
Oh, c'mon HATER. Tapout? How'd I "tapout"? You're the one w/ hatred in your name. Who did I leave out?
Not who - what.

You won't answer my question. Rather, you spout off about my "hatred" of everything Griz. I call that a tapout.

FWIW, the reason my handle is grizzh8r is because of arrogant, knowitall, holier-than-thou Griz fans more than anything. You have proven you aren't that type. That is why I said this:

Then again, this is the smack board...

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.
