Montana State University student-athletes flexed their academic muscle again this fall term recording their 14th consecutive semester of team grade point averages above 3.0.
According to MSU Athletic Director Peter Fields, the academic performance portrays the excellence embodied in the university’s athletic programs.
“We have always held academic excellence up as a marker of true success for our student-athletes,” Fields said. “It is a real indicator of the caliber of coaches and student-athletes we have here at Montana State. The fact that 22 of them got a perfect 4.0 is an amazing testament to their dedication.”
In addition to the 22 perfect individual GPAs for fall semester, another 14 made all A’s or A-‘s. Also, 60 additional student-athletes earned Dean’s List recognition with a GPA or 3.5 or higher. In all, 206 earned a GPA of 3.0 or above (58.7% of the student-athlete population). Women’s track and field had the highest number of perfect GPAs with seven. The highest team GPA went to women’s basketball. The team has scored in the top 15 nationally in grade point average the last three years in a row.
“For a team to score so high nationally on a consistent basis sets a great example for the rest of our coaches and teams,” Fields said. “Coach Binford and her staff have made academic excellence and success on the court work together well for the women’s basketball program.”

It should be pointed out that even though the combined team GPA is over 3.0, we do have some teams under 3.0. This statisitic is a combined average of all the teams. That is not to take away from the accomplishments of all the athletes, as it is quite an achievement.

Are the results of individual sports GPA released in addition to the overall GPA? I'd be interested to see the actual results for the football team.msusportsinfo wrote:It should be pointed out that even though the combined team GPA is over 3.0, we do have some teams under 3.0.
