Yeah, but rtb beat me to it by a couple minutes...it was the extra time to put in the excitement and stuff.
I think we need to have a little chat with our MSU contact about communication eh rtb?

It sure stinks that the PSU game is on SB Sunday (thanks Big Sky Conference), but I know that Coaches vs. Cancer is really important to Coach Huse, as a cancer survivor. I am gonna at least try to make a half or something.

I think you're going to need more exclamation points to convince me that anything resembling ACTION is going to take place in the Fieldhouse this week after the last three games.
Kudos to Fullerton on the Super Bowl Sunday home game scheduling - the Altitude Game of the Week will surely draw massive ratings for this one. Watch out NBC!

I know we've had this discussion before, but I don't think it can be emphasized enough how poorly the men's basketball schedule was done. You have a conference game (EWU) scheduled only two weeks into the season and not another conference game for a month, you have Cat/Griz continuously scheduled when there are no students on campus, then a meaningless non-conference game against Southern Mississippi thrown into the heart of the conference schedule, a Sunday afternoon game against PSU which only happens to be Super Bowl Sunday (good luck with the attendance on that one), and finally a road Bracket Buster game coming at a time in which we will be fighting for our Big Sky Conference tournament lives.MSU01 wrote:I think you're going to need more exclamation points to convince me that anything resembling ACTION is going to take place in the Fieldhouse this week after the last three games.

The game this Sunday is probably the one that irritates me the most. You know well ahead of time when the Super Bowl is scheduled. It's only one of the most watched events on television, with parties all over the place and sports bars packed to capacity. So what does MSU do? Schedule a game during that day. Now granted, if you live in Bozeman, you can get to fieldhouse and watch most, if not all, the game and get back home in time to see the Super Bowl. But for those of us living out of town, we're hosed. Each year, the men's team has an afternoon game scheduled and I always bring my family down for the game and dinner in Bozeman, and then head back home to Helena. But this year, we are missing this game because we are staying in Helena and attending a Super Bowl party hosted by our friends (who have held this party for as long as I can remember). So I will have to DVR the game on Altitude (boy - won't their ratings be through the roof, you know, competing against the SuperBowl pre-game). Sometimes it feels as though the athletic department is trying its hardest to keep fans away.

I thought the Big Sky conference games were done by computer and then each school filled in the other games?

That's the answer I was given by the Big Sky Conference office when I asked the question. The conference schedule is determined solely by the conference office (by computer). No sense blaming individual schools for the conference game schedule.Hawks86 wrote:I thought the Big Sky conference games were done by computer and then each school filled in the other games?

It seems Altitude is responsible for this, too. I'm not sure if it's the Big Sky or Altitude who picks the Sunday game. I'm not sure of the selection process, but I guess they want each team on at least once. I do think that having this game of the week on TV helps the Big Sky conference greatly. MSU just happened to get picked to host the game on the worst possible weekend. We'll have to see how the crowd looks that day. I'll be there, but I'm not sure who else would even want to go. In future years, Altitude may want to move the game scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday to Saturday. They still get the game, and nobody misses the Super Bowl.GOKATS wrote:That's the answer I was given by the Big Sky Conference office when I asked the question. Re: BOBCAT MEN'S BASKETBALL ACTION THIS WEEK!!!
I understand the computer's involvement in the conference schedule, but I find it a little hard to believe that a coach or a school can't petition the conference on certain games. One would think that the MSU Athletic department could approach the Big Sky with regards to the Sunday, February 1st game and possibly get an exemption with that date because it's Super Bowl Sunday. The school could argue that attendance could be drastically affected by scheduled PSU on that day and ask for the game to moved up to Saturday or back to Monday. Maybe MSU already did that and lost the arguement; I don't know. But I find it real hard to believe that a school can't have somewhat of a say with regards to their sports schedules.GOKATS wrote:That's the answer I was given by the Big Sky Conference office when I asked the question. Between the Big Sky Conference doing the conference scheduling and TV, I seriously doubt MSU has ANY say in when the game is played. I am fairly certain IF they could move the start time, they would.

It's payback time tonite for that horrid game we had to play @ Eastern early in the year. Get 'em 'Cats! I hope we have a good crowd tonite.
Also... The actual superbowl kickoff is not until 4:30 pm. 'Cats game starts at 2pm so you should be able to go to the game and make it to your superbowl destination by kickoff. I'm already sick of the pregame for the superbowl.
