Your going to a Sac State game?I might take in one game (besides the all-important one) just to see how the bottom dwellers are doing.

You mean that same Sac State team that beat the Cats by 10 last year?mquast53000 wrote:Your going to a Sac State game?I might take in one game (besides the all-important one) just to see how the bottom dwellers are doing.

We're terribly bored is all; can't wait for football. The one I can't believe just keeps going is the Newsweek thread
Maybe if we could get Mr. Quast to go over to Bozo and help out with some of the summer camps and send us some pictures, we could get back to all the serious speculating
He could at least let us know how many kids are staying in Bozo during the summer, how hard they're working out, how much weight they've put on, increased their finger strength, vertical leap, how the injuries are healing, etc. etc.....

But I Suppose those crappy DII titles should count that you won???Cat Grad wrote:What amazes me most about their arrogance is that very few of them today realize that their school was once in the conference that morphed into the PAC-8 and the only win they were able to get on a consistent basis was the little aggie school in the game that used to be played in Butte--and then they're too ignorant, I would assume, to realize the overall record in our series is something like 66-33That'd be like counting their series record against Western
Kind of embarrassing on their part and makes you pretty proud of the old time Cats that would take them on, and evidently win more than a few times

I'll be rather gentle here as I'm assuming you have absolutely no understanding as to the history of the NCAA. Before 1978, there were only two national champions. One was the small college and the other was the major schools. Our championship in 1976 was significant in that our school beat ALL the wannabe conferences that pretend to be D1 (visualize the WAC, MAC, ConUSA, SunBelt) and 1-AA and DII schools.Hell's Bells wrote:Go Scats Go wrote:But I Suppose those crappy DII titles should count that you won???Cat Grad wrote:What amazes me most about their arrogance is that very few of them today realize that their school was once in the conference that morphed into the PAC-8 and the only win they were able to get on a consistent basis was the little aggie school in the game that used to be played in Butte--and then they're too ignorant, I would assume, to realize the overall record in our series is something like 66-33That'd be like counting their series record against Western

Anyway, attempt to diminish our accomplishments if it makes you feel better. Our championship in 1976 is worth more than your 95 or 01 mid-mid levels combined--then throw in 84 for good measure and you've got more than a few to go to get to our past levels.

I'd simply like to state that I find it interesting that the Cats commenting on this thread are proud of & loyal to MSU and have no problem proclaiming it to be the "better" of the 2 institutions in question (which it is, btw).
Meanwhile, the griz fans posting here simply want us to accept that neither school is superior to the other. Is that how you really see things, griz fans? "Our school is just as good as yours"?
Grizlaw, I'm sorry you have to go to such great lengths to defend that your "university" is AT BEST equal to ours but it's simply false. You already took the Law School issue off the table, and rightly so; the "powers that be" could have just as easily decided to put it in Bozeman, Butte, Billings, etc...
So you are really left with: pharmacy (take the pills from the big bottle & put them in a smaller bottle...), forestry (sun & water - good; fire - bad) and journalism (and get a job at Newsweek or CBS, where the facts never get in the way; at least when attacking a Republican!).
Comparing the "liberal arts" of sociology, language, psychology, philosophy etc. to areas of "science" such as Engineering, Chemistry, & Physics is like comparing multiplication tables to calculus. On average, I'm confident that the areas of study at MSU are FAR more complex and difficult to master than those at dUMb. One personal example: My brother-in-law went to business school at MSU for 3 years and realized that based on their requirements, he would need to attend another 5 or 6 semesters to receive his degree. Instead, he transferred to dUMb and got a degree there with 2 semesters & 1 summer school session. Guffaw all you want, it's a true story & indicative of the standards at the 2 institutions. The old joke about driving through Missoula real slow & receiving a degree from dUMb sure rang true in his case...
BTW, grizlaw, MSU's Accounting program has ALWAYS outperformed dUMb's when it comes to producing CPA's; although dUMb has closed the gap, MSU clearly dominates in this area of study. MSU is one of the TOP performing Accounting schools IN THE NATION over the past 25 years.
Throw in MSU's Agriculture, Architecture, & Nursing programs, and I'm afraid you're simply wrong this time, grizlaw, no matter how many arguments you make. The sad fact is, take away Griz football and you'd hear about dUMb about as often as you hear about Tech or Eastern.
Way to go, Bobcat Alumni! Keep touting MSU as the BEST school in the State and leave the "we're just as good" cheers to the griz...
(and now, prepare yourself as the lawyer hammers out his rebuttal...)

El Gato, that was excellent. I've found over the many years when (for whatever reason) in social gatherings with their product and fellow graduates out of state, their products are frequently apologetic about their academic background while our graduates are not only proud to be graduates of THEE Montana State University, they are usually highly respected in their fields. No, I'll never allow anyone to trivialize what our school's grads have accomplished and where we stand nationally. I'm very proud to be an MSU graduate, and yes, I pity their products and their inability to convince others they're a viable, productive member of society.

Cat Grad: That's funny. My brother (MSU grad) in Texas has stoped hiring MSU engineering grads becouse it takes to much time to get them up to speed compared to A & M kids. "The real nightmare is sending a Bozeman kid into Mexico on a job."
Never mistake activity for accomplishment.

jag,
I'm not sure if this is still true or not but I do know that once upon a time Boeing only actively pursued Engineering grads from MSU & 2 other schools and that Boeing to this day employs A TON of MSU alumni.
And the fact that your brother is in a position of hiring Engineers says something, does it not?

Suppose jacs brother is rather proud of his accomplishments and...well, it appears there's some deep seated anomosity that manifests itself in harmless chatrooms for any and all others who love not only their school but what the school has afforded them

jag,
Sorry to dispute your brother , but that is such bullsh!t. I worked for one of the largest national consulting engineering firms in the country for many years. Every MSU grad that I knew of that also worked there (and for a few other national firms that I knew of and knew specific people) did very well. I was very proud of the education I got at MSU. In terms of undergrad programs, I would put it up against any school in the country. In terms of graduate work, I would probably pick more of a "name" school now, but MSU grads in engineering typically have a great rep. Some is due to the school and some is due to the better work ethic from people in this part of the U.S., but MSU grads stack up just fine.

FACT! During the early thru mid 90's the MSU CS and EE programs took a real hit/dive in the quality of their undergrad courses. So much emphasis was put on research that classroom instruction by a professor was virtually nonexistent.
My reasons for enrolling at MSU were centered around the fact that 3 professors (amoung the tops in their field) were scheduled to teach and advise in my desired field of study. I only saw them when they needed a favor or bumped into them in a hall. Those students that could afford it transfered out of state. The rest of us had to accept instruction by grad and undergrad STUDENTS! Hence my not-so-favorable attitude toward MSU!
