EG: So ... do you, like, think we should pay the prosecutors more in order to compete with the defense attorneys, or would that be a waste of government resources?

Well, it would give Koopman a tag-team partner for any future brawls on the floor.

BAC,

I agree that it's nothing compared to the felony charges, but my point is that the charge WAS BROUGHT and, by my reading/observing, this one was proved by a number of different CREDIBLE (meaning NOT related to the boy) witnesses and yet even on something as meaningless as this, they failed to tell MJ he did anything wrong.

I agree with the Slate author about the OJ connection; I was simply trying to make a joke. This jury clearly has more support for their verdicts (at least regarding the felony charges) than did the OJ folks.

But the fact remains that this jury potentially sent the message to Michael Jackson that NOTHING he did in this case (nor in any other case) was wrong. I'm wondering now, since he's been vindicated, if the message he got into his insane skull is that his activities at Neverland are just Jim-Dandy with America, or if he got the true message that his activities ARE disgusting & illegal, but he just got away with them?

Time will tell...

He did say no more sleeping with boys.

The best line in BAC's article was the line if a parent lets the kid go over to MJ's house they should go on trial.

jagur: I certainly agree on that one ... although any sane parent would have picked up on that long before this. At least now, everybody knows. That's a silver lining.

meat think if it this way:

MJ's life is about to end is it was in it's pittiful shell of a once grand life he once had - he has to sell neverland ranch *damn* and accoridng to reports, most of his 9 Rolds limos (yes you read that right martha...9) were not running and the one that was had no insurance on it, ironically the limo Jessie hi-jackson was riding in. he has not even a dime to his name now.

that in saying it shames me to say this but MJ does not strike me in being able to use all of his brain, who knows he might be a victim himself, although that is just speculation in my part.

oooh and the fact that he already has paid 2 victims and basically told them not to talk

i would not want to see his legal bills and the bill for jackson's services...all their help comes at a price

I'm not Gato, but I have a couple comments on this.

Contrary to popular belief, criminal defense is not a particularly lucrative area of the law to practice. The very best of the best make a lot of money defending people accused of white collar crimes and high profile cases, but your "average" criminal defense attorney is a guy who hung out his own shingle and spends most of his time defending people accused of DUIs and petty crimes. While these guys are in the private sector and are not on a government pay scale like prosecutors are, when it comes down to it, they probably don't make a lot more; thus, by paying prosecutors substantially more than they currently make, you'd only really be leveling the playing field with regard to these high profile cases.

And all of this assumes, of course, that more money will necessarily attract higher caliber attorneys. I personally believe that people who go into criminal law -- both prosecution and defense -- do it primarily because they love the work and believe in what they're doing.

El, when you run for government, you should try and get Pearl Jam to do a benefit concert to help finance your campaign. I've heard they up to it.

BAC,

Once again you've decided to attempt to "trap" me or belittle my stance with your sarcasm, but I'll respond anyway.

I clearly stated that the government's MAIN ROLE is that of protecting its citizens and their rights. In this specific case, the State claimed that this boy's rights had been violated under California law. If the folks charged with prosecuting this case are not competent because the payscales in SoCal don't allow them to attract good attorneys, then yes, I would be in favor of raising those wages to ensure that scum like MJ & OJ "get what's coming to them".

I'm pretty sure that Arnold could find some worthless, wasteful program or agency to pull the money from since CA's budget is larger than most countries...

Regardless of what's been said in the press, I seriously doubt that he will have to sell the ranch and I doubt he's broke. Maybe in his weird little world he considers himself broke. A book, a movie, and an album later he'll be riding high again. :puke:

I was just circling you back to the point that jagur made, eg, not trying to belittle you. I thought you zoomed past his point in your haste to announce your victorious run at a legislature seat and I was curious what your position was, that's all. I accept your answer -- that makes sense.

Still looking and being very, very picky about where to send a resume. However, now I have a reason to be less choosy.

Yeah, I doubt the little freak is going to be eating too much Mac & Cheese to make ends meet...

According to the media, MJ is STILL adored overseas. If he can put out a few more albums & physically manage an international tour or 2, he won't need to earn another dime in America and he'll still make bank.

He's a rich, sick freak, but a sick freak nonetheless...

Let's for a moment imagine there's this guy living in.....Lewistown, MT. He tears out his grass and puts in swings and hobby horses and horse shoe pits. He invites preteen children over to play. He has a severe case of plastic surgery; rebuilds his whole face in an attempt to look like Peter Pan. He even works on changing his face to a different color. Eventually he makes friends with the children...let's them play for free, teaches them how to pitch horse shoes, shows them how to make jelly sandwiches, takes them to bed with him...all night (not that there's anything wrong with that!!??!!). I would hope by now, at the very least, the guy would be watering flowers in Warm Springs.
The only thing missing from this trial was having Kramers attorney from Seinfield (Jackie) defend MJ. I can see him saying, "I find this trial to be ludicrous, fallacuous, indecent, and a complete abomonation!" He would be right.

I doubt El got a flat top haircut from any of the Pearl Jam’s members dads, so they probably wouldn’t play for him…

I read that the publishing company that he owns half of is estimated to be worth $500 million. Who knows what else he might own shares of. Hell he owns the rights to all the Beatles songs!
Still looking and being very, very picky about where to send a resume. However, now I have a reason to be less choosy.
Since El is going to be in Helena in 2 or 4 years? He is going to shake things up in Helena and chase you Griz fans out of there!

Think more in terms of Asia and South America ... that's where he seems to have the biggest fanbases.

Truth be told, his music isn't bad -- he's just a freak on a human level.
