JC Guard Joins MBB Team

Post by GOKATS » Wed Aug 19, 2009 8:55 am

From MSU-

PRONOUNCER: LU-off

BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Bryan Louff, a transfer from Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College, will join the Bobcat men's basketball program this fall, MSU coach Brad Huse announced Wednesday.

A 6-0, 175 lb guard from Santa Monica (Calif.) High School, brings point guard skills to the Bobcat backcourt, Huse said. "Bryan is a welcome addition to our program. He will provide depth at the point guard position that we need this season. His toughness and maturity will allow him to compete in the Big Sky Conference right away."

Louff, a sophomore this season after one season at Marshalltown, joins a Bobcat team featuring four starters and nine lettermen returning from the 2009 squad that played in the Big Sky Conference championship game.

From the article, it appears that Bryan Louff will be the fourteenth player on the roster given James Hennessy's unfortunate medically forced retirement and DiValdo Mbunga's graduation. Will any of the current players be leaving? How many scholarships do the Cats have? Does anybody know the status of last years' two redshirts, Trevor Hopkins and Larry Swann? Is there a limit as to how many players the Cats can have on the roster? Or a limit on the number of redshirts? Mslacat, are you out there?

Somebody has not be reading my Blog [-X

Here is our2009-10 roster as of right now.

Roster

Will Bynum 6-3 shooting guard senior
Cameron Henderson 6-6 power forward senior
Marquis Navarre 6-0 point guard senior
Brandon Johnson 6-8 p. forward / center senior
Bobby Howard 6-7 power forward junior
Danny Piepoli 6-6 guard forward junior
Erik Rush 6-5 guard forward junior
Larry Swann 6-1 guard junior
Michel Swita 6-11 center sophomore
Cody Anderson 6-10 center sophomore
Austin Brown 6-4 guard / forward sophomore
Bryan Louff 6-1 point guard sophomore
Jeff Budinich 6-10 power forward freshman
Marc Bourgault 6-5 guard / forward freshman
Colt Idol 6-3 shooting guard freshman
Steven Davis 6-7 power forward freshman

I believe this is what the roster will look like come mid October when practice gets under way, but things happen sometimes.

That is 16 players. We have 13 scholarship players and three walk-ons. Louff is a walk-on as well as Colt Idol and Steven Davis. Trevor Hopkins, who was a walk-on last year has transferred to a D-2 school in the Los Angeles area - UC-Los Angeles I believe.

Louf is a great pick considering he walk-on, he had a pretty solid reputation as a high school player but had to go the JC route. I believed he paid his own way and redshirted his first year in the JC ranks and then played last year at Marshalltown JC. If you remember this is the same junior college that current Bobcat Marquis Navarre and assistant coach Temesghen Starr came from last year. I believe Starr recruited Louff to Marshalltown out of high school and recruited him to walk-on here.

BTW One thing to keep in mind Huse rarely identifies walk-ons as walk-ons, they are team members. He likes to stay away from those terms when possible, because some folks tend to view walk-ons as second class team members. He does not.

Don't be offended- I don't read your blog (I did for awhile but it had too much griz crap for my blood and that's why I quit egriz a few years back :) ), I don't read anyone elses blog either. I guess I'm just not a blog reader. I received an e-mail this morning announcing that Louff was a Bobcat so I posted it. For those of us who follow the Cats but are not blog readers Bobcat Nation is the number one source of info.

Please understand that I'm not knocking your blog or the effort and knowledge you put into it and I do read seriously your posts on Bobcat Nation. OK?
