Cats up by 2 at half, go on to win by 24 (87-63).

5 players in double figures led by Navarre with 22 and Howard with 21 pts 9 boards.

Great conference win over a previously undefeated team...NAU is in town tomorrow night.

Also, I think the women got beat by Gonzaga earlier in the evening.

The second half has to be one of the best halves I've seen in a long time. The Cats came out on all cylinders, and the best scorers were Marquis Navarre and Bobby Howard. Erik Rush had a really nice game, and things just went well for once. It was a fun game, and a great way to start the way-too-early start of conference season.

The women's team put up a fight, but lost to Gonzaga 87-72. This may be one of the few times that a team will be more athletic than MSU. It was a good effort, but Gonzaga is mighty good.

GO CATS!

A really really nice win for the men to start out the conference. Navarre especially had a nice game with 22 points and almost totally cancelling out UNC's best player-guard Will Figures who got 24. UNC's big man left the game early with an ankle injury-he sat on the bench with an ice pack-that really mitigated our size disadvantage. Both teams are really quite similar-very scrappy on defense.

All our main guys played well-but they also played a lot of minutes. With the quick turn around to the next game the bench guys will need to step up tomorrow night.

On a personal note-as a fan-I love the Friday-Saturday schedule. But I can see what a load it is for the teams. UNC and NAU will meet somewhere in the night going opposite directions on I-90. That's not going to be easy on them.

The women were right in the game with Gonzaga until a hideous stretch in the second half put them out of it. They must have had 30 turnovers. My philosophy in that situation-get across half court and launch it-a bad shot is better than no shot at all!

Still-a fun night. Kudos to the few student who were standing and making some noise-hopefully they'll attract some followers as the season goes on.

Excellent conference start for the Cats! UNC is gonna be there at the end; they are building a quality program down there. But after going 0-2 against the Bears last season, I am sure the Cats had a chip on their shoulder last night. Keep it up boys - a good NAU team comes in next; would be awesome to start 2-0 in the conference!!!
