Where would you live?

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Wed Dec 09, 2009 8:01 pm

I don't know why-this just seems like an interesting exercise:

So if your career allowed-where would you choose to live (for at least five years)? In the world...in the USA...in Montana. Your answer can be the same place for all three, and you can state reasons why-or state nothing at all.

Here's mine:

World-London, England. This is a bit of stretch-as I've never actually been there. But I love the idea of living in Europe-but I don't speak anything other than english. Plus I can always take the train through the Chunnel to France if the weather gets too dreary. I'd want a place in a neighborhood close to a football ground (soccer stadium)-Tottenham, Fuham, Chelsea, or Arsenal to name a few.

USA-New York City. I have been there, and loved it. I'd want a nice place on the Upper West Side (Jerry Seinfeld's old neighborhood) somewhere near Riverside Park and Columbia University. Not sure I could stand it for 5 years-but I'd love to try.

Montana-Bozeman-preferrably about half-way between campus and downtown in one of the historic neighborhoods.

World-Hmmm, if out of the USA, Australia.

USA-Wouldn't live there, but I'd spend a lot of time in Vegas. Lived in Portland, San Francisco and Dallas...w/ that said, probably Montana.

Montana- Anywhere between Bozeman and Idaho.

For five years.................................

World- Not sure, but I love flyfishing and have read great articles about New Zealand. 1st option would be something like Thailand. I'm sure Europe would be interesting, but not high on the list.

USA- I've been coast to coast and have never lived anywhere but Montana, but for five years I'd take the Bay Area (twin 3 yr. old granddaughters in Orinda getting the nod here).

Montana- Born & raised in Helena ( I love the area and could live there), worked 10 years in Fizzoula (loved certain areas around fizzoula, but would never want to live there), been in Bozeman ever since (there isn't a better place in Montana and it's where I went to college). A bit off the five year thing, but I'd love to have a cabin on Canyon Ferry, Georgetown, Hebgen, or Flathead.

World-Russia would be my first choice. I love Russian chicks and really dig the thought of running into Vladimir Putin I have always wanted to punch that smug bastard right in the face. Second would be Scotland

USA-Austin, Phoenix or Boise

Montana-Butte

first to belgrade: 1.) you have something against West Ham? Millwall? Charleton? :D 2.) my best friend from college lived at 83rd n B'way. its nice if you like to live among a bunch of snooty writers. he used to live in his grandma's little 2bedroom apt after she died... he was paying about $5000 per month back in the late 90s. to park his jeep was another $495 a month. he's since bought a new place on 80th close to riverside... he spent about a year and $1 million renovating it... "effing building committee" (his words).

my choices:
World: Northern Italy. its where the family is from and its a little slice of heaven. the mountains, the food, the wine, the language and the soccer. Krakow Poland would be second... its just beautiful, very cheap and the nicest people you will ever meet.

USA: you guys are lucky... i've always told the wife that we are going to retire on a nice sprawling ranch property somewhere between Denver and Seattle. im here in the flatlands of michigan with stupid people galore. id much rather deal with stupid cattle than stupid people.

Montana: Jordan.

Also, I believe BelgradeBobcat is from Belgrade, MT--not the Belgrade you are referring to, but I could be wrong.

I love the Goonies references--that movie is in my all time top 5!

If you live in Jordan, you don't have to pay taxes of any kind.

World: Vienna. Visited once in high schoool, loved it! Beautiful town, good nightlife, okay food. Lots of stuff going on, most people spoke English. I agree with Alpha also in that I love Russian women so somewhere in Russia wouldn't hurt either.

USA: I think New Orleans would be kinda cool, I've never been there so I can't really say. But I love jazz and seafood. Mardi Gras would be fun and the food alone would be worth the trip. Oh, the food sir!

Montana: Bozeman.

Good stuff! West Ham is too much of a yo-yo club. I don't think I could bear watching my team get relegated-I'd want the Premier League!

Interesting about Eastern Europe. I've heard good things about Prague as well.

World- Vienna, it has all the great things that Paris does, just without the French people

U.S- Walden, Colorado. About 45 minutes west of Fort Collins, in the mountains.

Montana- Gallatin Canyon! Must have river access!

these questions are always fun and it's interesting to hear other people's thoughts. myself...

world- somewhere tropical with nice beaches, maybe the Dominican republic, seen some amazing pictures from there recently, looks like a place i could dig.

u.s.- i would probably have to say somewhere in Florida, maybe near Tampa i have been there several times and loved it. the San Diego area would be a close second though. i use to think that i would never leave Montana, but the older i get the harder the winters are to deal with. especially this morning, as i am about 10 minutes from having to shovel a 3 foot high snow drift out of my driveway. :(

MT- i would stay right here in the Flathead. but if i did move in state, it would be to Bozeman.

I'm with CTOWM on this one. I have visited many cool places, but would never want to be a resident of any of them. I'm right where I want to be.

World: Guam and/or Viet Nam when it's too cold to comfortably fish for large trout (plus I want to be in Guam as we relocate all our SE Asian military units there). Anywhere you can chase the Czars' fish in relative solitude to include Tiera del Fuego.

USA: During the summer, anywhere in SE Idaho/Wyoming where you can watch mule deer, elk and antelope while catching large browns and rainbows and not having to contend with the hyde -neoprene hatch (would settle for the Taos-Rio Grand country). During the winter, Clearwater-St. Pete-Tampa area especially during snook, redfish and tarpon time.

Montana: Anywhere in the Breaks where you can catch big browns, rainbows or brookies out of their "undiscovered" pot holes and not see another human all day and watch mule deer, elk and antelope come in and drink as the Charlie Russell sun sets. I'd also have to have the added bonus of a vista that includes the Little Rockies, Bear Paws, lots of sage brush, juniper and ponderosa pine and I could catch a northern or walleye if I felt like eating a fish smoked/cooked on a sagebrush and cedar campfire. Just get me out of the Flathead, Gallatin, Bitterroot or Helena Valley with all the podunk ranches and gentlemen's ranches and all the transplants living their great Montana adventure.

Interesting question because in a way I am getting to do that right now. Living in Budapest Hungary it is hard to think of where I would want to live other than here, but, here goes:

Anywhere in the world: Italy, Treviso, home of Pinarello bikes so I can get a steady stream of new cycles coming my way. Cycle clubs galore, 40k from Venice and the Adriatic and just south of the Dolomites.

Anywhere in the U.S.- Seattle on a houseboat in Lake Washington.

Montana: East side of Bridger canyon looking up at the range.

Budapest: i love the bomb shelter / subway stations. i think one of the most picturesque sites in europe is looking across the danube from Fishermans Bastion. have you ever been to the Labyrinth?

my Noni was born and raised in Treviso before she immigrated to the states. she is the sweetest old lady but she is also one of those old-time piss and vinegar italians... cheats at cards, makes homemade gnocchi one by one, tells people to piss off constantly and when you ask her about Venice she will reply with "its a sh*thole.. i hope it sinks, the pigeons can have it"

I always used to to say if I could live anywhere it would be St. George, Utah but after spending my last two years here I would have to say San Diego! Ideally I would have two homes. Big Sky from June first until after the football season and San Deigo the rest of the year!

World - somewhere tropical with nice beaches. I hate winter more and more each year.

US - Somewhere in NC.

Montana - South of Eureka, easy access to the Flathead but still untouched beauty.

My choice of all those would be Eureka, winters aren't as bad there and summers are priceless!
