Anywhere in the world: Italy, Treviso, home of Pinarello bikes so I can get a steady stream of new cycles coming my way. Cycle clubs galore, 40k from Venice and the Adriatic and just south of the Dolomites.
Budapest: i love the bomb shelter / subway stations. i think one of the most picturesque sites in europe is looking across the danube from Fishermans Bastion. have you ever been to the Labyrinth?

my Noni was born and raised in Treviso before she immigrated to the states. she is the sweetest old lady but she is also one of those old-time piss and vinegar italians... cheats at cards, makes homemade gnocchi one by one, tells people to piss off constantly and when you ask her about Venice she will reply with "its a sh*thole.. i hope it sinks, the pigeons can have it"
Chester you are right when you say that the view from Fishermans Bastion is world famous, indeed it is. I prefer the view from the Pest side looking at the Chain Bridge with the Fishermans Bastion behind it. The Labyrinth is a little too touristy for my tastes as much of it has be reconstructed for tourists and isn't authentic. Of course they were real originally. Budapest however is a wonderful place to hang out with lots of little coffee shops on the streets like Italy.

Treviso is a great place. Your wife comes from great Italian bloodlines being a "northerner". :) Great cycling there and wonderful food. Regarding Venice, you are right about the local attitudes. ha. My friend, Biondo who lives in Treviso is 50 and has NEVER taken the 40k trip to even see Venice. :) :) :)

I however, love the Adriatic and will go anytime I get a chance.

Hey, come hang out in Budapest with me anytime with the wife! You have a place to stay!

no no... MY grandparents are from the north. (dads mom from Treviso, dads dad from Padua). and i have just gotten into the world of cycling :D .
i agree with the labyrinth in budapest... i thought it was going to be something real cool... then i was like... "why do they have a fossilized Coke bottle and computer keyboard down here????". We took the tour at Parliament... i tried to pay with a 500 Forint note that was from like the 50s (it was about twice the size of the current notes) and the lady at the window wouldn't accept it. i asked her "why not? YOU guys printed this?" then she goes "its old"... i reply: "so is this building we are entering, you're point?". then she just sat there and said "sorry, no accept". so i have a hugearse 500 forint with some magyar dude on it forever in a box at my house. oh how i love the euros.

World-I have lived in New Zealand and Denmark and traveled to many more, however with Sweden's scenery, mountain ranges, and laid back culture I would love to live there for an extended period of time.

USA-I have never been to New England, however I have heard great things about Vermont.

World - Cape Town, South Africa. Beautiful town surrounded by mountains. Known as "Heaven on Earth"

USA - Lived in Disney World for a few years. You can't go wrong living in the "Happiest place on Earth"

Montana - Somewhere on Big Sky or Flathead

Very Cool topic.

World – British Columbia Canada, somewhere between Williams Lake and Bella Coola. You can fish for all 5 salmon species and steelhead. They are in the rivers from April until December, steelhead and sea run cutthroat the rest of the year. If you get tired of the rivers the lakes and creeks are pristine and full of dolly varden, rainbows kokanee salmon, grayling, brookies and cutthroat. The Hunting is awesome as well for moose, deer and caribou. I am also into backpacking, you can go for literally hundreds of miles without seeing a person or road. There are very few places unspoiled left on earth like it. Plenty of grizzlies and wolves to scare off anyone who doesn't belong. Canada is nearly 80% public land and you can access all of it without any trouble, a big contrast to the US where all the good spots are duded up.

USA – New York, somewhere near Lake Placid. Northern New York has a lot of class. There are lots of little towns with very well kept 100 year old houses build from hardwood. Not many trailer park communities like you see all over the rural west.

Montana – East Glacier, I spent four months sleeping on the ground in the park doing grizzly bear research a couple years ago and really enjoyed east glacier. The nicest country in the state as far as I am concerned is the Missouri breaks like cat grd said or the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation IMHO.

I actually sat and thought about this for quite awhile just now, and couldn't come up with anyplace but Winifred, MT. I'll get there someday.

On a day such as this I'm thinking anywhere but Winifred sounds pretty good. It's snowy, windy, and miserable there.

Been lucky...my job has taken me all over the USA/World.

Anywhere~Edinburg, Scotland. Very special...at once modern/midevil, (makers of great adult beverages).

USA~Portland, Oregon, (makers of great American brews). I'm a west of the Mississippi guy. San Francisco used to be my favorite city, but that ship sailed a few years ago.

Montana~Butte, (any questions?) in one of those special, old, lower westside mansions...below Tech....with a cabin in Ennis.

Been just about everywhere, and IMO, NOTHING beats Western Montana!!

Amsterdam is a pretty close second...

World - Berlin or Rome: Seems like a cool place to base european travel out of
USA - Harrison, Idaho, a small town on Lake Coeur d'Alene that is my favorite place on earth in the summer. Winters would have to be in Mexico.
Montana - I really like Ennis! Close enough to Bozeman's stores, but still a small town with small high school classes.

Chester is a darn nice little town. Go up the road a little ways to Joplin or Inverness and you can probably get a house for free.

chester did not know that... probably because he has been raised a Steelers fan his entire life. Chester has also been "Lions-free" since 1979, this has help him maintain his sanity all these years.

(The NFL draft is commonly known as "The Lions Superbowl" around these parts).
