Big Sky Officials

Post by bobcats35 » Sun Jan 10, 2010 8:30 pm

Is it just me or are the Big Sky Officials the absolute worst? The ones I see doing the Cats football and basketball games are far below any kind of acceptable standard. The only thing about them is their consistency of always being bad. At least they don't seem to favor one team over the other. The two crews that worked the mens games this weekend easily missed more violations and fouls than they called. On top of that, many of the calls made were incorrect.

Why don't the Big Sky AD's (and maybe the Presidents) demand that Fullerton get quality officials assigned to all games. If he can't do that maybe it's time he's replaced. I doubt MSU is the only school that constantly gets poor officials. I'm sure there are quality offcials out there, his job should include finding them. Even if they have to come from great distances, the only additional cost would be the airfare. The game pay and other expenses for food and lodging should stay the same. Not sure what per game fee is, but I suspect it's pretty good.

How many games are effected by poor officiating is hard to determine. But, I'll bet it's quite high over the course of several years. Enough is enough. It's time for a change.

I agree, stop the bad officials threads. They're getting old.

They hold merit, though.

This was by far the worst officiated game I have seen all season. The second half was especially bad. Calling blocked shots fouls, ticky tack fouls BOTH ways, and then not calling an obvious push when Bynum got shoved out of bounds after his shot was blocked. They completely disrupted the flow of the game for both sides in the second half.

The one thing that bothers me the most is when the ref way out on the wing (30 + feet from the play) will make a call on a play under the hoop that the guy right there doesn't think is a foul. This happens MUCH too often, and happened both today and Friday night on more than one occasion. The wing officials need to be told that it's NOT THEIR CALL.

I admittedly only watched the last 15 minutes of the game, but I thought it was well and fairly officiated. Sure, I saw mistakes. But in the college game today you could call 15 fouls on every possession if you wanted. I thought these officials were accurate, and perhaps more importantly, consistent.

....which is why you shouldn't even have bothered posting. ](*,)

In the first half, the officals let them play, and the game had a nice flow to it. There were only 4 fouls called on MSU and 6 on EWU in the whole first half. In the second half, the Cats had 9 fouls at the 10 minute mark, and EWU had 9 shortly thereafter. Like I said, they SEVERLY disrupted the flow of the game, which was absolutely to EWU's advantage. It's crap and I'm sick of it.

I guffawed at the last sentence. They were consistent alright - consistently bad.

The portion of the game I saw was well officiated. That's what I said, and I stick by my post 100%.

If the style of officiating changes, you better have a team that can adjust, because that's going to happen whether you play in the Big Sky, the ACC, the Big Ten, or the Westen Conference of the NBA.

I agree. I'll watch big-time college games on national TV, where the refs are either scared or smart enough not to call such incidental calls. Yet when an EWU jumps on a pump fake by Bynum under the hoops and crashes into him as Bynum goes up for the shot, no call is made. Ticky-tacky both ways. That is the 3rd or 4th game I've watched the Cats play where 1 side or the other (usually both) were in the double bonus by the 10-11 minute mark in the second half. The second half took a good 15 minutes longer than the first half...

Write the man an email if you are so inclined. He may or may not respond, but if you can cite specific examples of bad calls or bad no calls in your opinion, he will usually respond. However, that said, his canned response is "We review each game and the performance of each crew. If we see a problem we address it immediately." Good luck and if it makes you feel better here is his email.

He won't respond. Even if you get a response, you'll get something from his secretary. I've tried many a time for many different occasions.

Let's count our blessings, at least I haven't seen Eric Curry's mug recently.

I think you don't get it. Sleeping in until 6 won't get many people very far in life, especially if they want to play on Sunday.
