Pat Patterson - Helena R.I.P.

Post by TomCat88 » Mon Apr 12, 2010 7:03 pm

My good friend and former MSU yell leader, Pat Patterson, committed suicide over the weekend in Helena. Pat was the best man in my wedding and we roomed together at Roskie Hall. Pat was on the cheer squad when the 1984 team won the national championship. During the Rhode Island semi-final game he spotted me in the stands and with his power loudspeaker yelled, "Hey everyone look it's Tom Stuber!" I was incredibly embarrassed, but what are friends for? :)

Pat graduated from MSU in 1986 in sociology. He moved to Los Angeles and got into the Dean Witter stock broker program. He took a job for Geico Insurance before the L.A. scene took its toll and he moved back to Helena to start up a bead and incense business downtown in the late 80s. He learned to blow glass specializing in doll house figurines and sold his work all over the world.

Pat was a body-builder and power-lifter winning several trophies at various events around Montana. He attended Helena High and grew up in the south-central part of Helena.

Pat had a very unique personality, was an incredible conversationalist, and I learned a great deal about human nature and life just by spending time around him.

He was and is a great inspiration to me. R.I.P. my friend.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Hello,

Pat has been an aquaintance of mine in Helena for the past 10 years. Everytime we ran into each other he always had a smile and a few good words to say. As you stated, he was talented, funny, intelligent and warm.

I may have the opportunity to compose a short write up regarding Pat's life in the Helena I.R. May I use information or quote you from your lovely memorial here? Thank you for taking the time to share how Pat's life had meaning and value to you. I'm sure there are many more people, like you and me, whose lives he touched in a positive and memorable way.

Christine
