Emily Tyrrell at NCAA's

Post by mchammer » Sat Jun 12, 2010 11:22 am

3rd out of 12 in the first flight with 158-9. Her javelin was somehow bent so she is working with her back up. First two throws went 140's, but she came through on the third. No rain, but it's cold and windy at Eugene today. If only 6 pass her in the second flight she makes the final and should make the top 8 Americans, assuring All-American. More info soon.

Emily qualified 10th. It took 160 to make the top 9. Conditions were better for the second flight, warmer. She was actually 4th, not 3rd in the first flight. We are certain of one Swede ahead of her. If there is one more foreign thrower she will make the top 8 Americans, and All-American. Checking on this now.

10th but 7th American, so All-American! She had to throw a bent javelin. She tried her back up but it was a tailwind and she was dealing with a head wind. So she went back to the bent one, which didn't fly much better. It's interesting that the javelin was brought out in this shape. It was brand new and easily passed inspection, but came out of inspection trashed. An official noticed it on the cart before she got her hands on it. The NCAA owes us a javelin. But I wonder how it got so damaged. They don't bend easily.

What is your typical javelin made out of Mike?

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Steel, aluminum or composite (aluminum wrapped with carbon fiber). Grips are cotton cord.
