Tom died of a heart attack yesterday in Billings at age 67. The Exxon chemical engineer of 35 years competed in the hammer in the 72 olympics, placing 12th. He managed to hone his technique throwing out of shot put circles without a cage, wherever he could sneak in. He resumed competition as a masters thrower and set American and world age records, often competing in our meets unattached. He officiated many of our meets as well, and did an excellent job. His last e-mail sent yesterday indicated that he was having a great day. He coached a young thrower in the morning, went for a bike ride, and planned to take his wife out last night. Our track program has named a meet in his honor now for 18 years.
