dying thread but I had to add to it...

last weekend I was watching the Cat game at Old Chicago with a couple other buddies and the griz game was on. After cheering on a win for WSU, I had a lady in about her mid-50's approach us after the game. She seemed friendly to start when she asked if I was from Montana. We all replied yes, and that is where all chaos started. She told us that we do not deserve to be from montana because we dont cheer for the in-state team, and that we were young and immature and that when we grew older we would learn better . I told her that even when I am 80 I would be hard pressed to cheer for the griz if they were playing al-qaeda. Now, I have no problem being heckled by griz fans because I do the same and its all just part of the rivalry. BUT I know that probably 70% if the posters on here would not cheer for the other school no matter the circumstance. I enjoy the rivalry between true fans, but the arrogance of this lady is just another reason I HATE the griz. one more thing... FTG

I'm one of the 30%, will be in Bobcat Stadium this weekend cheering for...well, cheering for somebody.

Actually, I will be for the Cats hoping ISU can make a miracle happen and beat EWU.

But yeah, I know what you mean. I know a few Griz fans that hope the Cats win all but 1 game in the regular season but I have yet to meet a Cat fan that cheers for the Griz, ever.

Like you said, it's the fun part of an in-state rivalry.

Couple things;

1. I would never fault an athlete who played for either University not cheering for the other.
2. I see no problem not cheering for the other university if your university has something to gain from it, like moving closer to a Big Sky Conference Championship.
3. I always like to see MT kids succeed, whether its Chase Reynolds, or Dane Fletcher, because ultimately either one could have ended up at the other university based upon what they would like to study, or what need the football team had at that point.
4. Ultimately its the fans that make it hard for most people to cheer for the other university. 10% of EACH of our fan bases are so damn annoying, that it makes the other 90% of the opposing unversity's fan base hate them.

Lastly, if you have never went to school at either university and nobody in your immediate family has, you are not a WE, you can still cheer loud for the team, but you are not a WE.

Went to MSU or UM, then you can say WE won or lost on saturday.

Didn't go to MSU or UM, then you should say THEY won or lost on saturday.

ha. i say "we" all the time when i talk about the vikings and twins but sadly i never suited up for either of them. guess if i play by the "rules" i should no longer do this. from now on it's gonna be "they", "them", "theirs", "those", etc. don't wanna get out of line....
