Thursday 8/25 Scrimmage
What are the details on Thursday's scrimmage?
Time?
One's on One's?
How many plays expected?
I'm debating whether to make the trip down.

The original schedule called for
8/23 -- 3:00
8/24 -- 9:00 and 3:00
8/25 -- 4:00 -- Scrimmage
8/26 -- 9:00 and 3:00
8/27 -- 3:00 -- Family Fun Day starts at noon
and it called for last Saturday's scrimmage to start at 4 PM. (Did it?)
A 4 PM start seems reasonable because it allows for a normal practice start time at 3 pm to do warm-up and such.
Given all that, I have not seen an offical start time.

Last scrimmage started at three though it was scheduled at 4. Kramer mentioned he was going to change it on SportNuts last week. I will try to listen to him today and see if he gives a time.

Anybody have any details on the family day Saturday? Is it just for families or can fans attend? I see there is a practice scheduled afterwards at 3:00, is this just a practice or is it a controlled scrum? Seems like if you have families travel, there would be some type of scrum? Curious if this could be a weekend get away event, weeked scrum.

I highly doubt it. As far as I can tell their website only consists of a single image of their logo.

I'm supposed to be at Catapalooza in my fraternity booth, but I was there all day yesterday I think someone can take my place.
I need to even out the awesome burn I have that only did my left side...

First of all, I be the 1s only ran about 15-20 plays or so (that I saw). Offensively we were very sloppy. Lots of dropped passes (Gatewood 1, Murray 2, and a few others) and penalties (DeCock and Jenson each had a couple). Lulay threw 2 picks. I didn't see what happend on the first (mollohan), but the second throw was a little behind Gatewood (it should have been caught), and was picked by Austin I think. I don't remember who go the third pick.
Defensively we looked pretty good. I was very impressed with the DLine. Siataga looked very good, as did Rogers. Kolone and Papich were very steady. When we go nickel, one of the Dends comes out, Eddie Smith comes in, and Lowe moves to DE. So we end up running a 3-3-5.
Offensively we looked like we were asleep. Lulay didn't look great, and neither did the receivers. Groves once again looked like a spectacular player, Bass looked very good, as did Tiato. Schreibeis was good at TE as was McDonald. I was also extremely impressed with Derek Green.
Pretty much everyone played. Notables not suited up were: Force, Domenick, Clayton Curley, Chris Davis is still out...and that's about it. Brian Williams was playing Force's spot, and I thought he looked very good. Brian Walden (someone was wondering if he had reported) was also playing 2nd team safety and looked pretty good.
We made a lot of mental errors, that will hopefully be taken care of by next week. I came away from the scrimmage with a lot of confidence in our defense, and less confident with our receivers. I have been to 4 or 5 practices and have rarely seen a dropped pass, we probably dropped 6 passes.
Kicking: Wow, we still have a lot of work to do here. It looks like Hastings is going to be handling FGs and Bolton Kickoffs. I don't remember the stats, but I don't think that we made 50% of the FG attempts.

I was at the scrim too, and was pretty dissapointed offensively. Bass looked pretty good, but other than that not much was going for us. Lulay made a few off throwns, and his two interceptions were not his fault. The first was tipped by a defensive player and Mac came down with it. The second one was a smidge behind Gatewood cutting across field, and Gatewood tipped it right to a trailing Austin. Drops killed us. Lulay looked good when he scrambled, as always.
I have a lot more confidence in our defense, especially the passing D. We covered well and the zone is hopefully lead to a lot of tipped balls for interceptions. The run D looked pretty good too, but JD wasn't in either, but Bass is a very ample back.
Overall I was hoping for a much tighter performance from the O, instead I left a little worried.

Kramer's Take
Kramer Tags Scrimmage 'Beautiful'
MSU Bobcats Bobcat Football News : 2005-08-25 : Bozeman, MT
By Bill Lamberty
Montana State's final scrimmage of the fall was beautiful to Mike Kramer's eyes
Mike Kramer grants that Montana State's final scrimmage of the fall may have looked a little ragged to most people. To the sixth-year Bobcat head coach, though, it was masterful.
"It may have looked to an unattached observer not so good," Kramer said, citing his team's obvious fatigue as the Bobcats worked through a 66-play scrimmage that officially closed fall training camp. "To me it was beautiful. We wanted the most fatigue possible, and we saw that our great players -- (Lawrence) Figueroa, (Jeff) Bolton, (Rick) Gatewood, (Travis) Lulay, (Mac) Mollohan -- are ready to go. In spite of their fatigue level, their performance was excellent."
Montana State's defense benefited from the leg-weary offensive skill players, limiting the Bobcat offense to 277 yards. The defense also forced three turnovers, all interceptions. "Mac (Mollohan) played really well," Kramer said. "I thought (tackle) Louis Saucedo played a lot better, David Siataga showed a presence at nose tackle, I like the way Aaron Papich is playing (at tackle), and I'm very excited about the ability Clive showed today coming off the edge at Sam linebacker."
MSU's first defensive unit picked off Travis Lulay passes on the offense's first two possessions, one by Mac Mollohan and one by Kory Austin. Both those passes deflected off the hands of Bobcat receivers. "When your legs get tired your hands go, so that was natural a little bit. Those drops came as a result of the fatigue. We are really leg-weary. We've run a lot, we had a hard, hard camp."
MSU's special teams performed well on Thursday. Tyler Bolton secured his spot as MSU's kickoff specialist and conventional punter, hitting six punts for an average of 50.1 yards. Jeff Hastings, MSU's place kicker, hit two of four field goal tries. Michael Bass showed flashes of brilliance as a punter returner, and Tramaine Murray returned kicks well.
Travis Lulay was only four-for-12 passing for 52 yards with two interceptions, but Cory Carpenter was five-for-six for 34 yards. Rick Coppack, in his best scrimmage performance as a Bobcat, was seven-for-13 for 71 yards and an interception. "Those guys haven't done a lot of running during camp, so they threw well."
Still, Kramer cited the way his team dealt with the grind of fall camp as the biggest positive from Thursday's scrimmage. "What we tried to do during the course of camp is fatigue our guys early then make them play through the fatigue like they'll have to next Saturday in Stillwater," he said. "I think we accomplished that. We weren't successful in how we performed (Thursday), but I think we showed them how hard it's going to be, and I think it bodes well for us during the season."
Rushing: Michael Bass 6-16, Evin Groves 8-22, Travis Lulay 3-18, Isaiah Taito 11-63.
Passing: Travis Lulay 12-4-2, 52, 0; Cory Carpenter 6-5-0, 34, 0; Rick Coppack 13-7-1, 71, 0.
Receiving: Michael Bass 1-20, Evin Groves 1-5, Jevon Miller 1-1, Ty McDonald 3-23, Chaz Guinn 1-16, Rick Gatewood 2-16, Derek Green 3-25, Toby Rundle 1-7, Tyler Lulay 1-32.

I felt the same way the both of you did. I don't know if we will have a pass rush because I don't know if there was a lot of blitzing. The D line plugged some holes that were there before, but I'm not sure if it was the D-line or that the offense was a little off.
I was impressed with the pass coverage, linebackers, and with most of Lulay's throws... most of the time they were catchable..and weren't.
I hope the receivers just had a bad day, because if this is the norm...one of our strengths just looked weak.
I wasn't impressed with Hasting's leg strength. He was given more chances to kick field goals than Bolton but barely dropped one of them in from 45 yards. He missed one short from 35, it looked like he took a divot!. The one Bolton tried had a lot of distance but was just wide right. Bolton looked good punting. The long snapper Jeff Moore, a junior from Big Timber was pathetic on punts. I hope Bostic is ready by next week. Although the snaps barely beat the defense back to Bolton, he did get them off quickly and with good hang time. At least we have an alternative to Lulay if we need it.
Bolton kicked off with a 15 yard run and hit a line drive that had about a 1.5 second hang time. Then he turned around and used about a five step approach and kicked it high to the goal line. I vote for that one!
I would think that Kramer isn't real satisfied with that scrimmage, although I'm sure he will point out all of the positives...as well as the negatives we saw.
I talked to Evin Groves father after the scrim. Nice guy... drove all the way up from San Diego for the scrimmage! He plans on being at every game. Sounds like Jay Hackett's dad! He told me Evin was recruited heavily by UCLA (as well as Colorado and San Diego State)but because of a slight one credit grade problem...they (UCLA) dropped him from their scholarship offer because they obviously didn't want to take the time to straighten it out. They told him to walk on as an after thought. Enter coach Christoff who found out that it was one credit that wasn't recorded correctly and told him to visit MSU. Evin decided that he wanted to play where he was wanted and that anyone who would offer a scholarship obviously wanted him to play not just fill out a roster..so he came here and is glad he did. He even left his girlfriend in San Diego...he REALLY wants to play!
