From today's tribune

Meanwhile, Kramer announced that defensive back Marcosus LeBlanc, a 6-1, 185-pounder from Compton, Calif., has transferred to Montana State from Boise State and practiced on Thursday.

I'm guessing that #5 who was playing safety in the scrimmage was this guy, and not Brian Walden.

Marcosus LeBlanc (Jr, 5'11 185lbs)
Marcosus joined the Bronco squad in January as a JC. Originally a University of Colorado commit out of HS, Marcosus is a big hitter who owned the defensive backfield for 2 seasons at Compton Community College. He has the speed and reflexes to play CB, but the hitting power and mentality of a S, which makes Marcosus a very intriguing CB prospect. "I love to hit and am a physical player," said LeBlanc when asked about his style. "I'm kind of an 'in your face' guy. Expect to see a smart physical, confident guy out there making plays." Making plays is what he did last season as he was the Western States player of the week for the week of November 17, 2003 when he had 8 unassisted tackles, 2 Passes defended, and an INT against LA Harbor CC. He finished last season with 70 tackles and 21 pass breakups for Compton and 8 interceptions in his JUCO career.

A testament to his playing ability comes from the schools that were after him once he'd decided Boise State was where he wanted to play. LeBlanc committed over interest from Arizona State, Washington, Kansas State, Iowa State and Nevada, among others. He'll have 3 years to play 2 starting this fall, so if he needs time to adjust to the speed of D1 ball, there is that option, however it's not a very likely scenario at this point.

Did I read that to say he has 2 years of eligibility remaining? Sounds like a great find but it almost feels like we have too many DB's in the stable this season. What a switch from last year. No matter who ends up seeing the field the most - I would say we have to admit Kramer has done all he could to fix the secondary debacle that was last season.

Well hopefully we can get back to our famous stud man to man coverage and let our front 7 guys go get the QB/RB. It does sound like the scrimmage that the 3-4 scheme may be getting better and already looks to be causing TO's. One thing about drops/tips in a 3-4 is there are more body's around to catch the deflected/miss thrown balls. So while Lulay had 2 picks, this could be a good sign for our defense. TO's!

one of those pics was a whizzed ball that went right through Ricky's hands. Great reaction by our DB's though. Back to the O, Lulay needs to get some touch back to his passes. Our WR's were getting a case of the seahawks from what I saw at the scrimmage. There are still some kinks, but I really liked the looks of the LB's yesterday. Their reads were on and they were stepping up and filling the holes.

Rick catches it and we score. This shoudn't be a problem later, first time this fall our guys had such a rough time hanging on to the ball.

I've got to give it up once again for Kramer. I'm not real big on the amount of transfers he gets, but you roll the dice as much as he does and one day you will strike gold. This year may be that year, if not, I may have to re-evalute my fairly high opinion of him. What I do like is that he is always recruiting, and always trying to make his team better, regardless when it is.

What continues to impress me about his recruiting is his ability to beat out the many D1 schools recruiting the same kids. Plus, I appreciate the fact that he is like Tom Osborne and believes in teaching and parenting the kids he recruits.

I think once the kids meet Kramer and he shows how much passion he has for both football/academics and the kids in general. It is very hard to say NO! And he does have a continuing passion to keep recruiting once the recruiting season is pretty much over. Some of his best recruits have been late signings.

I've only been around him a few times, and I flat trust him. He's a good man and appears more than capable of not only being capable of giving a good arse chewing but taking one also.

"Marcosus was listed as 2nd team in the Spring, but has fallen off the depth charts and reportedly has found himself in the Coaches doghouse.

Blessed with the ability to play either safety or CB, Marcosus, if he can make it onto the field, might be too good to get off."

(There is also an article "From Bronco to Bobcat" that you have to pay to read and I'm way too cheap for that.)

Chris Davis when Healthy could be one corner (Speed),
A bunch of very good guys looking at the other corner
Force is loved by the coaches and plays great, thus a fixture at one safety.

This kid might be the other.

The DBs are looking better each day as with the LBs

Would be better if we had a couple spare at DL, but it's not bad now.

You hit the nail right on the head Jah. Its amazing how many "late recruits" Kramer gets who make significant impacts on the team. He has stated almost word for word what you said about recruiting "all year long" not just from November through February.

Getting the D-1 drop downs comes with reputation, other coaches liking you, and having scholarships available just in case.

The school releasing the player has to release him and many times they point him in a specific direction (thus Krammer being liked by other coaches is important). If I remember, Arizona told Kolone that they would only release him to MSU (didn't want him to red shirt and appear somewhere else in the Pac 10).

Also, this time of year is a big time to get Div 1 players. A player gets pissed because they are not going to start (or in the doghouse) and want out.

What's interesting is San Diego State. They have three QBs (one a senior that is 3rd team) but the other two are of note. Both are quality QBs. One a Soph and one a Freshman (both red shirt). Right now the Soph looks like he won the starting nod. However next year, if it stays the same, I can see one of those QBs transferring instead of sitting behind the other for game after game. Both are very good. Something to watch as to how it will affect the BSC since both kids are west coast natives.

Could this be the first of Jimmy Lake's recruits?? He is supposed to be an excellent recruiter, and he is our secndary coach.

I wish I'd known about LeBlanc...I would have watched him closer at the scrimmage yesterday.

From BSU's website it looks as if he redshirted last year, so he should only be a junior. Also of note is that old Bobcat secondary coach Marcel Yates is the secondary coach at BSU, maybe he sent LeBlanc our way.

Agree with this EXCEPT I believe Andre Fuller is going to be All Big Sky for the next 3 years. I love how much he improved throughout his freshman year. If the new kid, LeBlanc, IS a big hitter, we are going to have some fun when he, Fuller, and Force are on the field!

BTW, if LeBlanc does turn out to be a player, I'm already dubbing him JOEY. Most of you should be able to make all the connections...

If he is as good as everyone is saying why is he leaving BSU without getting a chance to play. Sounds like maybe a problem and may not make the impact everyone thinks.
