I really think Coach McEndoo will be the next coach to make a name for himself. I hear nothing but great things about him. I cant think of another MSU basketball asst who has moved on and had success other than Danny Sprinkle (2 NCAA tournament appearances at Cal State) and Jim Shaw who is at Washington now i think?? But he was with Kelvin Sampson at Oklahoma and went to Final Four. Shaw is known as one of the best recruiters in the country and i heard he is the one who recruited Quadre Lollis! Probably the best recruit we have ever got basketball wise. Can anyone in the Nation tell me any more bball assts who have moved on from MSU and had success? If Huse ever moves on i think we should definitely look at Jim Shaw! We need a recruiter here like Gaines did for us in Football in the state of texas. Its all about players. Let me know what you think?
I can think of 2 assistant coaches over the past 25 (or so) years that have gone on to become a head coach at a D-I program (Huse and Durham)...

I can't think of all of our former assistants, but I'll give it a shot...

Danny Sprinkle: Left MSU for essentially the same position at Northridge
Shawn Dirden: Coaching high school ball in Denver
Ryan Orton: Assistant at Alaska Anchorage
Jerry Olson: Coaching women at Oklahoma Panhandle State University
Brian Harrell: Teaching and coaching (I think) at Browning HS
Jim Shaw: Mentioned above....

I think the quote "you are what your coaching record says you are" is right on. We have had back to back coaches now that really don't generate much excitement or have any charisma. I was disappointed when we hired Brad Huse because I thought we needed a much more dynamic type of person after Mick Durham. Someone who would get the students excited and out to the games. Also, someone with unbridled enthusiasm that would get out and be more visible in getting support and building the fan base and season ticket holders. A Mike Kramer type. And to be successful in todays world you have to be able to be a salesman that can get out and recruit! I have not seen this at all during the Durham, Huse years except the couple of years that Mick had Hattler and Lollis. But that was a team that created their own excitement.

I was brought up attending many, many Big East games. I am used to coaches that are winners, create excitement and have a lot of charisma. They get their fans and students fired-up and involved and they can recruit.

I do feel the right coach can get it done here. But, that coach will have to have all the ingredients I mentioned above.

I agree with you completely. It's going to take more than just a coach who is good at X'sand O's and/or evaluating talent. You're right on the money in saying that we need a "Mike Kramer type", who would be good at recruiting talent as well as reinvigorating the fanbase, with the power of their personality. I don't think there's any doubt that the right guy could get the job done at MSU. I mean if UM and WSU can have successful MBB programs, why can't MSU? Unfortunately, I'm not sure that PF would be likely to hire a "big personality" type guy for the MBB program.

I would hope that is understood! You can have all those qualities and be a winner and have high academic standards.

Give what a break? I am just saying what I would want and not want from a coach.

Bobcatbob, is 100% correct.

Good....it seems that we are all in agreement on that. I just take some exception to your comment "minus the .500 record". Emphasizing only his cumulative W-L record doesn't really tell the whole story, and ignores the role he played in making Bobcat football relevant again. APR issues aside, and talking strictly about on-court results, if a basketball coach came in and produced 3 BSC titles and 3 NCAA tourney appearances in his first 7 years on the job, I for one would be ecstatic. But please let's not turn this into another "Mike Kramer is God/Mike Kramer is the Devil" debate.
