Any D-1 Prospects in Montana This Year?

Post by gtapp » Thu Mar 17, 2011 10:13 am

Are there any Montana High School seniors that will be playing D-1 basketball next year? I hear that Lincoln Powers is getting some looks. Anyone else?

Both Huse and Tinkle really really wanted to get a shot at Rodrick ... but it was not in the cards.

The best prospect in the state is junior Riley Bradshaw from Corvalis. He is a 6-3ish point guard who I have heard compared to Shann Ferch (I am not sure, Bobcat I hold both Ferchs pretty high). I think the Griz have a BIG edge of the Bobcat's but Utah and Utah State might be the leaders.

As for 2011 I have not heard anyone getting scholarship offers from either school. I do know that both schools have shown an interest in Kurt Parsons from CMR. He is a 6-7ish poor mans Bobby Howard. He wants to play the small forward spot in college. They are hoping to get him as a walk-on, but Parson has a lot of offers from D-2, NAIA, and JC's and I hear he is looking at all options. Montana sent Tinkle to the AA tourney and MSU sent an assistant. I believe MSU is also looking at Lincoln Powers also as a walk-on.

The Emerson kid from Columbia Falls is a possible but I don't know if he will play D1 ball. I have heard the Griz have shown interest but that's all I know.

Very spooky po :-s st During our St. Paddy's discussions last night, many stated how strange huse and Tinkle didn't want Emerson yet several noted he is more advanced fundamentally than Stockton was in high school and it would be spooky to see him in Spokane and Stockton's kid in Missoula...Stockton was second team to Mark Glass you recall? Linder and Richards can play on any Big Six team as can Emerson. Sorry, but there are no AA kids worth wasting a scholarship on again this year...that includes the gatorade player of the year. His work ethic could make him a factor in two years as it did Stockton...Surprisingly, the Oil Patch B and C schools have the most raw talent and are the most overlooked. The only knock Emerson has is playing zone all through high school.

the griz did show some interest in Emerson, but they didn't go after him very hard and i think that, like the Parsons kid, they were looking at maybe asking him to walk-on.
i do know he has 2 or 3 JC offers and i think 1 or 2 from naia schools too. personally i hope that he goes the JC route because i would love to see if he can become a d-1 guy. he is a late-bloomer, he had a good jr year but didn't really burst onto the scene until this year and i think that hurt his recruiting a bit and as cat grad said, only playing zone in HS probably hurt too. i might be bias towards my hometown kid, but it is hard for me to believe that he could not play at the d-1 level.

I'm not sure what you mean by that?

Young Emerson from Columbia Falls is going to walk on with the Griz according to this link:

It will be interesting to see him develop into a D1 player, sounds like he has the right attitude and work ethic.

i really think this kid will be a success for you guys Gallatin. he was challenged alot by his HS coaches and every time he rose to the occasion. a stiff challange and a lofty goal are right up this kid's alley.
