I know Betsy personally, and consider her a good friend. But, she's got a narrow vision of the State outside of Missoula. Why? I don't know. She's liberal. What can I say. Basically, Missoula is the only place where she can be as liberal as she is and not get run out of town. I love Missoula simply because of the fact that it is liberal, and I'm really conservative. Keeps me young and open minded. That's a good thing.
Two places I would choose to live, work and raise a family Montana. Missoula and Bozeman. I would work, live and raise a family in any town in Montana, but those are the only ones I would go to on purpose. Have to get dragged by the coin to all others.
I never said I hated Missoula. In fact I actually think it's a pretty nice town, athough there are some other Montana towns that I prefer. I just think many Missoulians have somewhat of a "little brother" complex towards Billings, and I think it's funny that they will try to manipulate the facts in order to convince themselves that they're really the largest town in Montana. I've heard similar "pretty soon Missoula will be bigger than Billings" comments from many Missoulians over the years.
Exactly. Spot on.

As this is no longer a discussion about the largest town in Montana and has morphed into personal favorites: Logan, Townsend, Ringling, White Sulphur, Square Butte, Cleveland, Hilger, Zortman and Fort Peck. Can't stand tourists or transplants...and the woman I'm married to is from the South. I would rather spend my time in Miles City instead of the Gallatin, Yellowstone, missoula, Ravalli, Lewis and Clark or even Fergus counties....I love Fort Peck and Lake Koocanusa today. It bothers me that the Obama administration is going to sell cabin sites in the CMR Refuge

Not only did Zootown lose to Billings in the overall population catagory but they also lost to Bozeman in population growth percentage (35.5% to 17.1%)
I almost feel bad for those poor missoula residents that are having to endure all these humiliating defeats

I only like Missoula in the summer. The sun shines most of the time and it is green. The rest of the year they can have. The air is humid and reeks (at least used to) of the old mill in Frenchtown. It is cloudy most of the time. My wife grew up in Missoula and could not stand not seeing the sun. On top of that the traffic sucks.
When my wife and I were in Bozeman while I was in school, we felt that maybe Bozeman would be home. We loved the mountains that were close by and seemed outdoor activities were minutes away. But by the time I graduated in 93, housing & rent prices were skyrocketing (Thanks to River Runs Through It!!). Plus traffic flow was getting worse and at the time infrastructure was not well planned out.
A new job took us east to Billings. We had a hard time adjusting to Billings and took us several years to really get to like Billings. We had no family near by and new born twins. The first thing that I did like about Billings was that you could get from one end of town to another fairly fast. Granted that didn't include Main Street during peak times. The folks in Billings are down to earth people (most). The shopping is decent, medical is great, some good places to eat. Billings has a lot going for it. According to some folks in the petroleum industry, Billings will be growing fairly fast as some of the oil companies will start opening up here. On top of all that Billings is a huge shopping hub. Folks from Wyoming are willing to drive 3 hours to shop here. So that says something. Billings has the area and infrastructure to grow.
I grew up in Great Falls and spent some of my adult like there before heading to MSU. At the time I liked Great Falls for the most part. Lots of outdoor stuff nearby So I liked that part. The wind I didn't care for. But when I go home to visit, I feel GTF just doesn't have the oomph or vibrancy of other towns in MT. Maybe it is because it is an ag and military based economy. The one thing I do miss about GTF is Howards Pizza...I wish we had one here in Billings...

Have you tried Guido's Pizza? If not, try it and let me know if it's not every bit as good as Howard's. (Or try Tiny's, very similar to Howard's)

I have tried Guidos and it is really close to Howards. The only problem that I have is that their prices are high for what you get.

Missoula is known as the Hub of the Five Valleys. Maybe that is why they include a specific number of miles. If you have ever travelled US 93 from south of Hamilton toward Missoula, you'd know its basicly one city. Frenchtown to Turah, Missoula to Johnsrud Park, Missoula to Ravalli. Population squeezed into valleys. Not like eastern Montana. I thought it was a bit of a reach to think Billings metro would be surpassed by Missoula metro. The Billings area will be #1 in population for a long time.

Seriously, why did you have to bring up Howard's and Tiny's Tavern in the same thread. Those are serously two of my favorite foods, now all I need is some one to say Wontons at the Rex and Im Billings bound Via Greatfalls

Howard's Rules. End of story.

Howard's might make my list of top 5 Montana pizzerias. It's hard to surpass McKenzie River, or Columbos, or even Rosa's... I spose I could pencil Howard's in at #4.

I like how this thread has emerged into a pizza debate.
In no particular order:
Eugene's Pizza - Glasgow
Guido's Pizza - Billings
Howard's Pizza - Great Falls
Tiny's Tavern - Billings
Bogarts - Red Lodge
My homemade specailty - CTOWM household

The only bad thing about Colombos is how frigging hot they make their pizza. Usually have to wait 10 minutes before you can bite into that delicious pizza!

Rosas is my favorite. They have the best cheese bread. . .and I'm pretty sure they put crack in the ranch dressing because it is so damn addicting!
