Gidal had posted on the blog in the Chronicle that Peyton Ferris had signed. Seems like she will be an asset to the womens' team.

Ferris committed not signed. She will be a senior next year and as such can not officially sign until next November

It seems to me that Lady Cats and Lady Griz are taking turns at recruiting the top talent in the State of Montana.

UM snags Tory Hill, Jordan Sullivan one year

MSU counters with Kali Durham, Kayla DeWit, Jackie Elliot.

I wonder what will happen when each team has an equal # of scholarships to recruit top kids in the state how it will turn out. Coach Binford has done a good job of evening out recruiting battle.

It will be interesting to see if any of the new recruits can come in and replace the complete player that Sarah Strand/Balien was on both ends of the floor.

If you mean as freshmen, then the answer is an unequivocal no.

There is no way, short of a Jos Tinkle type, joining the program that a freshman can come in and replace a two time Big Sky MVP and second all conference player like Balian, but fortunately the Bobcats do have first team all conference player in Rachel Semansky, and honorable mention Big Sky conference player Katie Bussey coming back, plus budding interior star Chelsea Banis returning.

Among the incoming freshman, though, Kalie Durham and Symone Brown could make an impact on the offence side of the ball next year. Both are big time scorers. Dewit could make an impact on the boards and is a solid scorer. French is a big girl who can run the floor she also is a very strong rebounder and could be force on the defensive side as she has a knack for blocking shots. Elliot is one of those all around solid basketball player can score, rebound and will do what ever the coach asks of her. Elliot is probably the best athlete of the whole bunch (although I reserve that distinction until I see Brown).

The two additions that may make the biggest impact though are already in Bozeman. Ashley Albert who people forget was considered to be the best player in the State her senior year. A class that produced Semansky and Banis. Albert, is coming off a knee injury, and at 6-1 has started at the point, shooting wing and power forward at one time or another. She is a combo guard in a power forwards body. Look for her to fill Balian's role next year. Point guard Kate Webb is also scheduled to come off a medical redshirt. Webb is a pure point who is a deadly enough from three point range that she should also play the off guard. If back to 100% she will push Ausha Cole for the starting spot.

Edit

Despite what I wrote above, the best female basketball player in the 2009 class was not Albert. Albert was 2nd to Jos Tinkle. Jos was/is so off the chart good I tend to not even count her. My Bad.count her
