"Way to go. You Grizzed it."

Post by TomCat88 » Sat Jul 16, 2011 8:06 am

Thought I'd take a shot at coining a new smack phrase. Whenever someone, especially UM, screws up it should be referred to as they Grizzed it.

Such as:
"Yeah, the Grizzlies might've beat MSU last year but they Grizzed it on the goal line." It really comes in handy when someone is blaming penalties or turnovers for their team's loss. You can cut them off in mid-sentence and just say, they Grizzed it.

This can be used for many situations that someone screws up. I'm sure I'll be using it on myself in no time. #-o

Not to rain on your parade, (well ok, the whole purpose of my post is to rain on your parade, but whatever...), but your newly-coined expression would be a lot more meaningful if the Griz didn't still own roughly a 2-1 series lead over the Cats in football. I realize that most Cat fans have trouble remembering more than one year into the past, but to those of us who have a more comprehensive view of history, the phrase "Grizzed it" would signify, if anything, complete domination of anything associated with MSU.

Just sayin'...

And perhaps be a lot more meaningful if it was even the least-bit original.

Washington State has "Couged" it for decades around here.

Grizzed it! Haha. I like it! A lot. I've never heard Couged it, so probly a regional thing. Grizzed it rolls off the tongue better, too and people will know what it means around Montana. I don't think anyone would get the Couged it reference.

I would think Couged it would refer to getting lucky with an older woman while grizzed is........... well grizzed it.

Very common phrase among WSU fans. I've have several friends who are cougs, heard it many many times....

Well, pshaw, yeah I knew that. Cougar and Grizzly (and Bobcat) are linked in other ways. So Grizzed is to Montanans what Couged is to Washingtonians. Sort of like grizzley* is to cougar, but not as well known, yet following that same theme. Unless you just don't get out much, you probably knew this. We call older women looking for younger men cougars and older men looking for younger women grizzleys, so naturally when you call a choker in Washington a form of coug, you would then call a choker in Montana a form of griz.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=grizzley" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

1. grizzley
In response to the "Cougar" nomiclature to describe a thirtysomething women on the prowl for younger men. Grizzley (slightly different spelling, but we're all fine with this) is a term to describe a thirty to fortysomething greying, probably divorced, man on the prowl for some younger ladies. The Grizzley often denotes pity from younger folk because it is clear that their time has long since past.

(Check the left column of this link for more griz-related words. Some of them are positive. Yes, there are some funny bobcat-related definitions, too.)

Interestingly enough one definition for a bobcat is a young girl looking for a guy a couple years younger. When you call a man a bobcat that means he's cool according to one definition, because he scored a hot babe 10 years younger than him. Oh, that works really well for me. :lol: :lol:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bobcat" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So if you score the young babe, you're a Bobcat, but if you fail, you're a Grizzley.

A light sprinkle is all. Yes, the Griz do have close to a 2-1 edge all time in football, but while they were doing that MSU was claiming nine league championships, three national titles (one more than UM) in football and one in basketball (MSU leads that series). The Griz didn't win a conference title or play a post-season game until 1969 and didn't win a post-season game until 1989, meanwhile MSU had gone 7-1-2 in postseason games. So there...ha-ha! :wink:

But back to Grizzing It. That has more to do with the manner in which UM lost its games last year -- critical mistakes. I see WSU fans say they Couged it when they lose in a particular fastion -- blowing a lead -- so it's OK for you to refer to your losses last year and any future losses following that same theme. No one will mind. :lol:
