Rockin' R re-opens today

Post by TomCat88 » Tue Jul 26, 2011 7:17 am

I'm loading up the family this morning and making the trip down. We'll try to have lunch there at the Sideline Grill, but I'm not sure what the policy is for minors. Maybe we'll be the first family 86'd!! Don't really know what to expect.

It was a good time. Lots of Bobcat related stuff and blue and gold color. One of the owners, Mike, who I bartended with in the 80s, was there and gave me a t-shirt. Busy. Architecture fits in well with downtown.

Ooh, Ooh, stories please :P! Mike's a great guy! Such an asset to this community; very philanthropic!

Mike might be a nice guy, as an owner. But if Ralph Ferraro is still involved, I'll pass.

My solo encounter with Ferraro was not a good one. It was all I could do to not "dot his eye". From that point forward, I've chosen not to give him any of my business.

I don't think you are the only one that feels that way.

I remember back in the early 90's, my wife and I went to the races when the track was near the interstate in Belgrade. Ralph was racing and ended up rolling his car. Usually when a driver wrecks his car, they usually pass the hat through the stands to help defray costs. I'll never forget what one of the fans hollered out.."Heck, pass the hat??!! Ralph is the one that should be passing the hat back to us!!!"

They did have Salmon Fly on tap I noticed.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

I'm so happy to hear it's back open! I spent some great times in the old R Bar during college and almost shed a tear the day it blew up. I'm sure the new one will never be quite the same, but it's better than nothing!

On a side note, Bar 9 and the Pour House did a good job picking up the slack last year. I'll have a hard time leaving Bar 9 to check out the R Bar.

Some people are a lot like slinkies....... Not really good for much, but it puts a smile on your face to watch them fall down a set of stairs.

The goalpost is back up there. Charred and all.
And I won't have any problem leaving Bar 9. That place is...interesting...

i never really cared for the R Bar. Unless you were a frat guy with a pink polo shirt with the collar popped it wasnt much fun.

I'm definitely not a frat guy but I think it's the best bar in Bozeman.

I can't say I'm too in touch with the clientele these days. I'm assuming it's still the main hangout for college (be they frat, jock, babe, brainiac) kids. It was that at nighttime when I worked there in the 80s, but more of your down-n-dirty joint during the daytime, which I doubt is the case now. Open from 8AM to 2PM every day back then. It's certainly not a biker, rocker bar or a casino or shot-n-a-beer joint. I see they have live music there occassionally, which they never had back when.

I'm not too picky myself. If a bar has some cold beer, friendly people and some music playing, I'm set.

Good thing I didn't say "cold 25 cent beer." You would've forgot to clock out.
