I wouldn't be shocked if it was true. It sounds like he is pretty much out this season recovering from the injury, so this could be the season he is forced to sit out for transfer purposes. He could then play next season at the I-A level, get a feel for how his prospects look, and then decide to either stay up at that level for the rest of his college career, or drop back down to MSU (or any other I-AA school) without sacrificing a year of eligibility or having to sit out a year in the process.
If he wants a shot at the NFL, despite MSU's knack for getting guys looks the last couple years, a player will almost always be better off playing for a high profile (non I-AA) school.
I hope he sticks around at MSU, but if he bolts, I can see his rationale.

While on scholarship at MSU I don't believe the Huskies or anyone else can offer him anything (tamper) without running serious risk. He can choose to leave our program, get a waiver, walk on anywhere he wants and take his chances. Can't see anyone offering an ACL rehabber much of anything until he can demonstrate good/great recovery. If somehow the Huskys are interested he must be one great athlete since they can get a brand new recruit fresh out of the carton with zero baggage.

Former MSU Bobcat to 'do whatever it takes' to get to Washington
A Second Chance for Goodman?Premium membership is required to view this story

Life has a funny way of balancing out. Back in 1999, a player by the name of Joey Thomas was all set to play football at the University of Washington. Things didn't work out for the former Kennedy star, so he headed east to Bozeman, Montana, where Thomas developed into one of the top defensive back prospects in the country. Are the Bobcats about to pay the Huskies back?Jason Goodman to UW?
Jason Goodman to UW?Washington recruited Great Falls (Mont.) CM Russell TE Jason Goodman out of high school, but in the end Jason felt a better fit was closer to home. Now, after a year playing as a true freshman for the Bobcats, Goodman has a much different perspective. About a week ago, Jason was released from his scholarship letter at MSU so that he could pursue a dream.
"There wasn't any bad blood personally," the 6-4.5, 265-pound Goodman told Dawgman.com Monday. "I just decided that I have one chance in life to do something and I've always wanted to play at Washington, so I'm going to try and give that a go."
Jason tore his ACL at the end of the 2003 season, his first at Montana State. He had 5 catches for 81 yards, with a long of 29."I got hurt in the very last game of the season, at Northern Iowa," Goodman said. "We ended up winning the Big Sky. I played in all 13 games.
"It feels good now. I have the full range of motion and I've been running on it. It's just a matter of taking that first hit. There hasn't been any swelling or anything and I've been playing a lot of basketball on it."
Goodman's goal now? To get into school and continue to strengthen his knee. "My plan is to walk-on at Washington, redshirt in 2004 and then play in 2005 with three years to play," he said. "This has all happened within the past week, so I'm pretty much willing to do whatever it takes to get out there. If that means going to JC for a semester or whatnot ... it's just something I've always dreamed about, playing at Husky Stadium. I know, given the opportunity, I could play out there, at whatever position."
Jason wants to be clear that his decision should not be taken as a slight against the Bobcats. "It has nothing to do with the coaches," he said. "They gave me a great opportunity, but it just didn't work out. It's something I have in my heart that I know what I need to do. When I decided I wanted to do this, I knew in my heart where I wanted to go. I could make phone calls and I still have contacts out there, but that's not really the question. I want to be a Husky."
So now all that needs to happen is for Goodman and the coaches to reconnect and see what possible avenues are available. "I've been playing phone tag with the coaches," he said. "They've been out of the office and I've talked to secretaries to get all the info I needed. In fact, I'm supposed to call back in a little bit."
We will keep you posted on Goodman's status as more information becomes available

Good luck to Jason. Hope I get an opportunity to see him in Seattle. He will certainly notice the difference....moving from a program with a $400,000 football budget to one with $14,000,000. I'm confident he's done his homework and admire his determination to follow his dream. Here's who he knows he faces:
TE's currently on the Husky roster
Joe Toledo 6'6 285 Jr. returning starter
Ben Bandel 6'7 250 So. (started 7 games when Toledo hurt)
Dash Crutchley 6'6 250 So.
Benn Jason 6'5 250 So.
Graham Lasee 6'5 270 Jr.
Jon Lyon 6'6 260 Sr.
Caesar Rayford 6'7 230 Fr.

Hate to see Jason leaving, but wish him the best of luck at Washington. If it doesn't work out for him he can always come back. I wonder if Kramer knew that Jason was leaving during recruiting because of all the TE's we signed? The Cats will be in good hands with Wolf, Barnhart and company. I am real excited about Barnhart sounds like he is the real deal!!
By the way, when does camp open? Been away for awhile and haven't heard.
GO CATS!!

I think he's making a mistake. I'm all for him pursuing his dream, which he was quoted as saying was to make it to the NFL. I believe he thinks his best chance is with the Huskies, but like I said - I think he's trading a full ride scholarship, an outstanding education, and a very good shot at the next level, for a long shot that he'll earn a spot on the Husky roster, earn a scholarship, then get noticed by the scouts and eventually get drafted. I honestly don't think Joey Thomas would have gotten as many looks by the scouts if he would have been an average corner in the pac-10, which is what he would have been IMO. Thomas stood out at the 1-AA level just as Goodman would have. Look at Casey Fitzsimmons? Maybe I'm ticked because he's always been a huge Bobcat fan and hates the Griz!raincat wrote:Good luck to Jason. Hope I get an opportunity to see him in Seattle. Another reason why he may have chose to leave is how much he thought he would get 'recognized' as a stud TE in MSU's offense. The TE's have not been used much in the passing game under Bailey (mostly blockers0, but that is suppossed to change this year they were saying. Maybe he wants to go to a system where he can actually catch a lot of balls (not sure UW is place to go or not if thats the case? not sure if the run wide open style).catatac wrote:I think he's making a mistake. I'm guessing (pure guess - which is dangerous), that it has always been his dream to play in Husky stadium - which is what he said. He was recruited by UW, but if I remember right, MSU was the only school that wanted to keep him at TE. Everyone else wanted to move him to O-Line.
Now he has a year of stellar TE play at the D-1aa level (albeit behind Blake Wolf). Thus he has proven to everyone that he is a legitimate D-1 Tight End. Thus he's going to UW on his terms.
Just a guess....any thoughts?
