Todays practice report?
If anyone has gone or will go, could you give us a little info as to what went on? Both sides of the ball please.

Hey! PDX! I was wondering when you were finally gonna post something on the new board.PDXKat wrote:If anyone has gone or will go, could you give us a little info as to what went on? Both sides of the ball please.
Anyone else notice that old friends such as Velo, Belgrade and a few others don't post as much as they did on the other board? We miss you guys, and we know you're here everday, so lets hear ya!

I suppose I'd better say something about football to keep things pertinent:
I know I'm getting way, waaaaay ahead of things, seeing how this season hasn't even started yet... But can you imagine how good we're gonna be in '05? Man 'oh man. We could very likely return 18 starters.
Anyway about this year... right now I see us approaching a great crossroads where the young guys (O-Line/ DB especially) either will step up and perform, which would make us a lethal team; or they could play timid or inexperience could take hold which would make us just a little better than average. I think we have enough firepower at the skill positions on offense, and up front on defense to ensure that we won't be a "bad" team this year.

I'm a newbie, but I'll give the practice updates a shot....
Watched practice for quite a while - some drizzle, but no hard rain.
O-line - HUGE! Jensen has really put on some beef and Bolton looks ready to go, and the new guys seem to be doing well.
Defense - showing some speed and aggression. Really getting in there to break up the pass, and if not, a little (friendly?) jab in the ribs after the catch!!
QB's - Lulay & Coppack throwing quick, crisp passes right on the money. Carpenter is practicing at #3, but looks like his knee is still bothering him and he was throwing a little behind the receivers.
Receivers- For the most part good routes and soft hands, but the wet grass seemed to be slowing things down. Some balls right in the chest that should have been caught, but overall things looked right on track.

Practice report - did not get there as early as I had wished, so really only saw the conditioning portion of practice. Some things I noticed, is that Jensen has put on a lot of weight - must be at least 270. The new DL Louis Saucedo is absolutely huge. He is a little our of shape - pulling up the rear in sprints. Heard they picked up another young OL - kid from Idaho that they had originally offered but decided he wanted to walk-on at Idaho, but then decided to come here. I cannot say enough about the size of our young OL guys - the future, near and far looks very bright!!! Also heard a rumor about some drop down DB's - haven't seen proof yet.

GD: You need someone to step up.
I expect more from you guys & gal. It's like you guys are in the 1950s. I'll be in Bozo today and I'm half tempted to go to practice and give a real update. Time & place anyone. I'll try to keep it semi fair and balanced.
cat practice or Sushi, Sushi or cat practice hmmmm. tough call.

Sorry Yaeger ... we don't write up long frosted flake cereal box type articles over here. I just loved it on the Griz board how everyone was touting the new WR core and the offense .. and then a few posts later they are touting their defensive guys for shutting down the offense/WR's ... Ummmmmmmm?????jagur1 wrote:GD: You need someone to step up.I expect more from you guys & gal. It's like you guys are in the 1950s. Defense is usually ALWAYS ahead of offense early in camp. Especially a STUD defense like the CATS are gonna field this year.

Great news and I am relieved to hear it. From the latest 2-deep, the weights are all very low - Kramer must be sandbagging! On paper, it looked like we'd have the smallest O-Line in MSU history. Jensen is listed at 235. Glad to hear he's bulked up.4dcats wrote:Practice report - did not get there as early as I had wished, so really only saw the conditioning portion of practice. I received the latest 2-deep as well, and I really dont think weights were updated from last year. Basically, I think they took last years roster and made out a 2-deep based off that and who is on the team right now.
Jensen is definitely NOT 235, and quite a few other weights are pretty light to say the least, especially on the younger kids.
I'd love to see a current roster with actual heights and weights listed.
4d - I've heard about some I-A drop down DBs as well. Havent heard names or numbers though, just the fact that a couple are "rumored" to be coming to town. I wonder if that has anything to do with Corkey Lindsey not making grades or just the fact that we are extremely young in the secondary, and would have been recruited to come regardless of Lindsey.

The O-Line is huge. I had a chance to play poker with them the other night and they seemed like a very confident bunch of characters. You can already tell that they work well as a unit and are very confident about being successful this season. I will be going to practice today and hopefully having something more tomorrow.

egriz.com
I must confess, I was reading posts over on egriz.com in order to keep tabs on the enemy. It is hilarious. They're making fun of our posts here because of the lack of posts on our practices. For one thing, they started a week prior than us so they're already in their 2nd week of practices. But because this site hasn't exploded with sugar-coated boasts about how good we are, we're inferior. I guess we should be used to the arrogance by now. I guess someone needs to step up and claim that our trip to Chatty is already in the bag. Come on guys, we need to do it Griz style... let's start sugar-coating the crap out of everything. I'll go first:
You know, I'm actually glad that Joe Hirst is out for the season because we'll be that much better when he returns. Peder Jensen looks better anyways and he's a true Freshman.
On a serious note, my main concern about this years team was definitely the O-Line. We'll be young there no doubt and depth will be a question mark. From the reports I've seen thus far however, I'm much more comfortable than I was a week ago. Hopefully Macendoo has worked some magic again. Get the pads on and let's get it on!
Keep talking the smack grizzlies - and we'll see you in November

Re: egriz.com
Our lack of posts/number of people attending camp might be a direct reflection on how many more MSU alumi actually have jobs and have to work! Of course, the UM fans might be attending camp for the Griz between their 3 hour Mcdonald's shiftscatatac wrote:I must confess, I was reading posts over on egriz.com in order to keep tabs on the enemy. Griz fans are making fun of us on their internet message board? That's it... a couple of you Bozeman-based Bobcats better quit your jobs ASAP so you can camp at the Cats' football practices and give us your best impression of a wannabe SI writer. For bonus points, I want lots of descriptions of how the players look with their shirts off (double bonus points if the writing could fit as a paragraph in an alternative version of a Harlequin romance novel), ad nauseam praises of every aspect of every player's performance (that guy can stretch with the best of them), and at least one of you has to become a bona fide groupie of one player and devote at least 50 posts in his honor. Then, and only then, will we as Bobcats be able to defend our honor, keep up with the Griz, and consider ourselves adequate football fans.
Seriously, thanks to you who are passing along whatever information you can dredge up from what little time you can afford to spend at the practices or around the team. Those little nuggets of information are a lot of fun to read (except when they are negative, then they aren't so fun).
But if anyone starts planning their family vacations around spending a week watching football practices, or if you find yourself frequently skipping important activities in your real life to instead go watch young men spend hours practicing to play games from which we all take a bit too much vicarious pleasure, have someone in your family give you a sharp, hard slap to the face, snap out of it, and move on.

Your killing me BayAreaCat. That part about what they look like with their shirts off I saw on EGRIZ a few weeks ago as well. Classic post as it all hits home to me the same way as well when I read that jibberish over thereBay Area Cat wrote:Griz fans are making fun of us on their internet message board?
