Keeps MSU in hunt for second.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Northern Colorado lost to Weber State so the men's team is that much closer to...oh who the hell cares.

Getting second would be huge for the women's team-I think we're a different team on fresher legs. ISU lost at Sac State. The Hornet women don't have a great record-but they sure are a pain in the neck to play.

Yes, the Hornet women are a pain in the neck. They've figured out a style of play, but it might be too late for them to make a run. Incidentally, Sacramento State visits Portland to play the Vikings in what amounts to a winner-takes-the 6 seed kind of game. Portland State all but locks that up with a win; a Hornet win gives them the inside edge, forcing PSU to win their final 2. Sac is done after this week.

I didn't want to comment just to clarify who gets the 6 seed. This is what the Cats need to do to get that 2 seed:
1. They need to win both of their remaining games. The game in Missoula on Saturday is huge. With a win, the Cats have a great chance and would get tiebreakers over a couple of other contending teams. They have the tiebreaker with Northern Colorado via the season sweep. They'd get it over the Lady Griz due to the win over Idaho State, if the Bengals finish in first place.
2. We need to become Idaho State fans for the week. ISU and Eastern Washington play their last 2 against each other. An ISU sweep gives the Bengals the title and drops Eastern to 6 losses. A split wouldn't help MSU much. Eastern holds the tiebreaker over MSU with a season sweep. Things could get really messy if EWU, MSU, and Northern Colorado finish at 11-5. Each team would be 2-2 vs. each other, and I don't know the tiebreaker in that case. I think it would come down to games against ISU, which puts EWU at 2, MSU at 3, and Northern Colorado at 4. UM would be the 5 seed in this conversation.

A loss to the Griz (or at Weber State in the finale, which is less likely) would probably put the Cats down to finishing no higher than fourth. I think MSU could be 5th, but probably not 6th. The answer here is to keep winning and do the best they can to improve their own situation. But I agree totally with BelgradeBobcat...the bye would do wonders for the Lady Cats at this point. I know I'd go to Pocatello for an ISU-MSU championship showdown!

GO CATS!
