The MSU men's basketball team was predicted to finish 7th and thus out of the tournament. But with PSU beating EWU the Bobcats now own the tie breaker over UNC and have thus qualified for the Big Sky tournament yet again!
despite losing 8 in a row
I'm sure it will be a party atmosphere in the Fieldhouse Monday night as the Bobcats take on the NAU Lumberjacks
the only team in the Big Sky with a longer losing streak than the Bobcats in what is essentially a meaningless contest.
No matter what happens Monday, MSU is locked into the 6th spot and will travel to Portland on Saturday to take on the Portland State Vikings. It's an interesting matchup. MSU had somehow managed to sweep the regular season series against the Vikings-but we all know it's practically impossible
for the Bobcats to beat a team 3 times in one season. But our 6th place finish is proof that the odds can be beat!
Congrats to coach Huse and his staff and to Bobcat fans everywhere!

Yeah I'm pretty sure he was joking. No one I know is happy with this season. We were at a restuarant and bar during the game lastnight. Both places had the game on and not one person besides my wife and I was watching one bit of the game. I wish we didn't make the tournement. I'm sure fields will use it as a reason for not firing huse.

Yes I was being sarcastic. If we don't try to incorporate a little humor into this debacle of a basketball program then the terrorists win...or something.

Nice post! When your team has a 16-39 record in February and March under its current coaching staff (including 2-15 the last two seasons combined), a sense of humor is a crucial trait to have.

Yes, indeed...Humor is important. Character building.
Ran into a lady this a.m. and we were talking hoops. I asked her, "Did you attend MSU?" Her answer: "Yes, I'm a long-suffering Bobcat fan."
As for me, I really don't find much humor or character building in all of this continued SUFFERING!

Since Patti still works, I am retired, I do most of the cooking.....And lately I have had to pull everything apart. She has hidden all the cutting utensils.............

Honestly, if Huse wins one Big Sky Tournament game he will get a 3 year extension...

I think odds are better to win the powerball jackpot.

No need to worry about that. An away game against a team that's above .500 in conference? In March? No chance of winning that one.

So, I am in Portland and I am planning on taking my kids to the game. I can't ACTUALLY root for them to lose in front of my kids, can I?
For the future good of the program?
I am sure Huse is a good guy and I hope he gets a great job elswhere - but we need a change. We deserve a better program.

He beat the predictions. Why do you think every other coach is wrong about where your team stands? Huse isn't the problem.

Everybody on this board is so consistently wrong about any sports prediction. (See last November) I’m going with the Cats knocking off PSU. You guys prove to me over and over you really don’t know anything about sports other than react and reaction.
Never mistake activity for accomplishment.

Huse gets a lot out of the talent he has on the roster, but he's ultimately responsible for the team's roster, and he has trouble recruiting enough talent to be a serious contender in the Big Sky.

That's right. A coach has to have many talents, but none of them are more important than his ability to recruit talented players. The best coach in the world is not going to win any championships without good players. And frankly, I'm not sure I even agree that he gets the most out of the talent on his roster. The annual collapses during the 2nd half of the conference schedule make me question that. I'm not sure that he does a great job of assessing his players' strengths and weaknesses, and adjusting his schemes and rotations accordingly as the season progresses. There has to be some explanaton for going 6-2 in the first half, and 1-7 in the 2nd half, virtually every season during his tenure. The players didn't become less talented later in the season.

One more thought on that. Many people have mentioned that they expected us to struggle this year, and the pre-season predictions would seem to back that up, because we have so many new/young players on the roster. But shouldn't a team like that be expected to actually get better as the season progresses? I can understand that it my take awhile for them to get used to playinging together, and that they may not do very well earlier in the season. But if anything, shouldn't a team with many new/young players do better in the 2nd half of the season, than in the 1st half? Obviously that hasn't been the case.

We weren't happy where our team stood before the season and we aren't happy where they are now (just one notch above where the coaches throught we stood). So what is the problem then? Facilities? Location? Academics too tough? Academics too easy? Ugly uniforms? Next year's team will most likely be predicted to be in the bottom half again.
