Bison tailgate party vandalized

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Sun Sep 25, 2005 10:15 pm

Guys, this really disturbs me. I just read on the Bison board that a bunch of punks tore down their flags and burned them-must have been sometime during the game on Saturday. They had a nice setup with a small bus parked along the fence adjacent to Kagy with some nice big flags.

It sounds like maybe some of the culpits have been identified. I hope so, and I hope full restitution and then some is paid.

I'm really sick to hear about this. Having a little fun is one thing, even talking a little trash-but not destruction of other people's property. That's going way too far.

Enough of his sort of stuff happens, and we'll end up like some other schools-no tailgating allowed.

Completely agree BB. I didn't hear about it until about an hour after the game was over. Complete crap that any of our "fans" would do anything like that. I went over and apologized to the NDSU fans. They were a great bunch of guys and it was nice talking to them. Sounded like they had a good time, just ruined by some senseless acts.

To the people who did this, you are absolutely pathetic and it would greatly please me if you never showed your faces at an MSU event again.

Absolutely!!! That is a completely stupid act obviously done by completely stupid people (alcohol or none). I got a burger at the Ferraro's tailgate and saw the little bus and thought it was a neat way to tailgate and travel. They had their stuff together and it is an absolutely contemptable and despicable act.

For any NDSU fans who read this, I sincerely apologize to you all on behalf of all true Bobcat fans.

That is TOTAL B.S!! Who the heck would do something like that? This embarrases me as a fan and I hope they caught who did it. This is not how 99% of MSU fans act like and it is embarrassing to even hear someone doing that. I will be more than willing to donate a few bucks to to compensate the NDSU fans for their loss. Anyone with me?

That is not representative of MSU or their main fan base.

MAN THAT REALLY RUINS MY MORNING ... I HATE THAT KIND OF STUFF :(

I'm just glad to see that the Bison fan who was victimized in this way understands that there's human garbage everywhere you go and that the rest of the Cat fans he encountered left a good impression on him.

Great game Bison & fans! I am very sorry Doug Fullerton is too dense to let you in the Big Sky; what a great addition your team/school/fans would be!

Maybe we can get one of the guys that were on here last week to PM anyone interested their mailing address and we can each mail the contributions to them etc.? That would work. If they PM me and give it to me I will PM anyone that is interested etc.

I agree, how terrible. What possesses people to behave like this is beyond me. I can't believe no one was around to try and stop what was going on. Most of these brainless, pathetic bullies are complete cowards and will stop and runaway if someone just speaks up. Obviously they didn't have the balls to do this while the NDSU folks were there. If you ever see anyone doing something like this at least get a description and report it immediately. However, if you can, just go over and beat the living crap out of them! I believe you'd be within your rights (Grizlaw correct me if I'm wrong).

I agree that a collection should be taken up to reimburse these folks for the damage caused.

This is total BS :( I hope that who ever did that is caught and they have to pay for every bit of damage done. Stupid, stupid!! People like that make the rest of us look real bad!

That was a great game and it was awesome to see how many fans came from North Dakota. I hope I can make it to Fargo in a couple of years. Great team. Your running back is a stud!! Lots of luck the rest of the year.

Thanx for the concern BobCatNation. It happened during either the first or second quarter. They ripped the telescoping flag pole in pieces, threw parts of it in the lot wrecking it, ripped the flags off, burned 2 and hung them back on the bus, the other flag they cut up and were throwing pieces of it arouind in the student section during the game, one guy I caught had about a quarter of the flag hanging out his pocket. Also beer and water bottles thrown at bus damaging some paint. They have the first name of one of the people that helped rip down the flags. Me and my brother had to spend the whole second half filling out Police reports and looking for the culprits, man i missed a good second half of football !! Hey we had a great time, fed some of the MSU faithful, let them warm up in the bus, visited other tailgates and said hi to anybody wearing the blue and gold. We never thought in a million years we would be victums of that kind of nonsense, were getting along with everybody too well. Loved the atmosphere, the stadium, and OUTDOOR football. The thing you guys could do would be to write the University President and complain about under staffed security personell at the game, The drunken (minors) that were lipping off to the cops had the upper edge because of the numbers. When I had that one guy arrested things were getting very ugly. One of the Officers that showed alot of concern for us said he had his head split open and needed stiches at your last home game by some drunkerd. Being in law enforcement for 21 years I do understand why the small number of Officers spent alot of time together in a circle jerk instead of patroling the lot, however they might want to get a grip on the large group that gathers in the middle of the lot, thats where the problem came from, and it was a free for all in that area with no enforcement of all the drinking violations. Anyways my observation of someone from the outside looking in. You guys have a great team and set up there, it was nice meeting alot of you and we appreciate your concern for what happened to us. Best of luck the rest of the year. I will be following up on the investigation and keep you posted.

Hey guys, please no contributions, I really appreciate the thought. The best thing to help us is e-mails, letters phone calls to the Campus Police to get arrests, and University Officials - hint - I do know first hand of a University supplying re-imbursement and then going after the students involved to make restituition back to the University. That would be a big help, the flags and pole are somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 bucks and it was quite expensive to haul that rig to Montana, so sadly enough, at the home game this Saturday there will be no Bison flags flying over the Battle Wagon for the first time. Again thanx for the thought and your concerns. Also alot of information given to the campus Police were from MSU fans, and we really appreciated it. I still dont understand how they could not have seen all this going in, we were parked in direct straight line of sight from where the Police social gathering was taking place all game. ??

I hate to sound like an old fogie, but we need to get that student tailgate section under control, NOW.

After two games it's clear that there are some major problems out there. These kids aren't even watching the game, obviously... get them the hell out of the lot. Damn I hate amateurs.

I'd be happy to donate some cash to help the Bison replace their flags, etc. also. Let me know where to send a check.

What appalling behavior - I, too, hope the guilty parties pay dearly.

I don't want to volunteer somebody else's services, but maybe they could setup a collection at the Bobcatnation tailgate party for the next game? Just a thought.

I definitely think the President of the University needs to get involved here. If it's this bad for NDSU imagine what it could be like for Cat-griz? They could have an all out riot on their hands.

Maybe more effort needs to be made for security in the parking lot instead of the futile attempt at frisking little old ladies, and small children while they enter the stadium.

I hope we don't end up with a bunch of more rules because of this-such as like they did at Joe Albi where you weren't allowed to reenter the stadium if you left (no halftime tailgating), or no tailgating at all which is apparantly the rule at Cal Poly.

One suggestion:

It seems like we have about 20 different places to enter the stadium, each manned by 2 or more security personnel. How about just having an East, West, and North entrance gate so that some of those bodies can be used out parolling the tailgates?

I know most of those folks aren't law enforcement-qualified but they could all be provided with radios so they can alert the cops of any situation needing police attention.

I concur with all the above; this type of behavior MUST be stopped and NOW. Gamble & Fields need to put a stop to this IMMEDIATELY.

I saw the flag being thrown around in the student section in front of me, but I didn't see who started throwing it. It was funny at the time because it just looked like a regular NDSU flag, but finding out it was stolen and part of vandalization really pisses me off. I sincerely apologize on behalf of the entire student body and whoever did this. I hope you guys had a good overall experience and good luck this year.

I saw BisonFan1's request for no donations after I made my post. I hope this is made right by punishing those responsible. Besides whatever criminal charges can be filed they should be banned from any Bobcat sporting event for at least the 2005-06 school year.

ill do ya better. It does not make any sense to have a lot of people patrolling the stadium looking for alcoholic beverages, why not make at least 1/2 of them patroll the student tail gate area? if they act like human float scum they can always not be let into the game

I bet the people at the front gates at bobcat stadium check for alcohol therefore making as many people as we have in the stadium checking for alcohol worthless...

From a legal standpoint, you actually have to be very careful with situations like this, because although you do have *some* rights to defend your property, you can get yourself into trouble if you go overboard. A person is allowed to use a *reasonable* amount of force to protect his property from being damaged or stolen; however, the law does protect human life and safety above property rights, so if the level of force you use to protect your property is later judged to be excessive and you seriously injure the person, you will likely be prosecuted.

If a person does find themselves in such a situation and wants to be relatievly certain to avoid prosecution, my advice would be that any force you use should be geared toward driving the person away from your property and/or recovering anything they may have stolen from you. If you have witnessed the person damaging property of yours, then you are probably within your rights to use sufficient force to detain the person until you can contact police. Of course, in any of the above situations, if the person attacks you physically, you are within your rights to defend yourself; at that point you're defending your own safety as opposed to mere property, which gives you more leeway from a legal standpoint.

I guess the major point I'm trying to convey is that if you simply chase the person down and give them a gratuitous beating, you can be prosecuted even though the other person instigated it by damaging your property, so be careful.
