And that's all I have to say about that.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

This definitely hurts the MBB program. Shaun Reid was just coming into his own as one of the Cats' best players. While Tor Anderson was injured this year, he displayed enough promise the year before that I believe Coach Huse gave him a scholarship. This news will probably be lost in all of the uproar about the Grizzlies' football turmoil, but I do not think it bodes well for Coach Huse and the Bobcats.

Any reason why they quit?

This better be an April Fools thread.

If it isn't, which I hate to even suggest, could there be a domino effect with Marcus Colbert? He went to school with Reid. Reid probably played some part in getting him here.

i heard some mumblings about something like this taking place but disregarded them. such a bummer. not surprising as i know huse lost the respect of his players a LONG time ago. our "rough stretch" of cat hoops continues.... :(

This is the single largest factor in the non-performance of the men's bball program....the large turnover of the roster every year. When you recruit so many JC guys and then your frosh recruits don't stick around, it spells death to the program...

SID Bill Lamberty confirmed it to me this afternoon. Just talked with Reid, who said it had more to do with him growing as a person and wanting to be somewhere that was new than anything that happened on the court. He reiterated many times that it was more a personal growth decision than a basketball decision; Reid went so far as to call Post Falls and Bozeman similar places and said he wasn't into the skiing/hiking/outdoors scene that both places revolve around. He has had contact with some schools - none of whom are in the Big Sky - but will wait until after the Final Four to contact more. Also, this intrigued me. He's looking hard at Seattle Pacific University, a Division II school, and said DI or DII didn't matter. Reid just wants to be happy - mentioning he could have stayed here and potentially been a 1K point scorer, but he wouldn't have been happy through it all.

Oh goody. There goes our future at wing.

What used to be Reid's bio on the official Bobcat site is a dead link now. Neither Reid nor Anderson are on the roster online. I figured that out while trying to look up if Reid still has his redshirt. I think he does. If that's the case, a transfer to another D1 school would be feasible.

With Reid gone, now all we need is for Dison to get himself arrested and Johnson to cut off three fingers in shop class, and we can be a competitive Division II team. ******. ******, ******, ******!

When is the Brad Huse has decided to step down news going to happen? It seems like that would be best for MSU at this point.

This is terrible news! So much for a better team next year. Why can't we hold on to our good bball players from out of state? Why the hell do we let these guys use us as stepping stones? I don't know how many 4 year recruits have left in the last 6 or seven years but it has to be a lot. Is it the ag school rural culture or what? Drives me nuts. Maybe it doesn't matter who the coach is, this is just not a place where black kids want to stay.

That really sucks. Reid isn't necessarily a big time player, but he's a great character guy and I assumed he would be a team captain for the next two years.

Assuming what he told gidal was 100% accurate, I say good for him and wish him nothing but the best.

Too bad he's not enjoying his time in bozeman. Being a college student and a college athlete is supposed to be fun. I hope he's able to find a good fit.

Is Brad Huse the Cliff Hysell of Bobcat basketball? Both have had their share of rotten luck.

I don't agree with this assessment. UM/Missoula is not significantly more urban than MSU/Bozeman, and they don't seem to have so much trouble holding onto their players. The two schools/towns may seem very different to those of us from Montana, but I doubt that either one is that much more or less appealing to kids from an urban background, so I don't think that theory holds much water. All of the factors cited by Reid as the reasons for him leaving, could probably have been much more easily overlooked by him and other players who have left the program in recent years, if they were playing for a coach that they liked or at least respected, and if they were part of a program with a history of stability and success.

The turnover rate has been ridiculous under Huse. Many fans have commented that Huse should get one more year, predicting that we'd be much improved since most of our best players would be returning for next season. I said all along though, that I wouldn't count on all of those players still being on the team by the beginning of next season, because it seems that we have 2-3 player defections every year, which means that every year we're faced with bringing in a bunch of new, young players. I believe that the high rate of turnover is almost more alarmng than our abysmal won-loss record, because we can't reasonably expect the on-court results to improve, so long as we continue to have so much personnel turnover from one year to the next.

It may be bad luck if you have 2-3 player defections one year, but it's not just bad luck when you have 2-3 defections every single year.

Lots of people upset about the current success rate of Men's bball at MSU. I can appreciate that. But, I am starting to see people posting that the players don't like, don't respect Coach Huse, that the kids quit on him mid season and that's why we have late season swoons.

So, my question is, are these comments coming from talking directly to the players, to sources connected to the players? Or, are they just coming from assumptions? I sure hope it's not the latter.....

BTW, I am rooting for Coach Huse to find a way to turn the ship around. I know how excited he was about last year's recruiting class and bustin' his hump on this year's as well. Losing Reid and Anderson is a blow.

I'd like nothing better than seeing Huse turn things around. I thought he was a great hire at the time, as did almost everyone, and by all accounts he is a great guy. I think the preference of all Bobcat fans would be for him to succeed at MSU. But realistically, if he hasn't gotten it done in six years on the job, the odds are really, really slim that he will ever get it done.

And by the way, I have no direct knowledge of how the players feel about Huse. But when there are so many defections year after year after year, that would seem to be an indication that maybe the players don't like playing for him.
