Insurance question

Post by gocats » Wed Apr 11, 2012 4:32 pm

I have a chance to become an independent contractor at work, making 2.5 times my present salary.
However, I'm diabetic and have heart problems, and I will lose my insurance from the newspaper. Were is a good place to get affordable health insurance? I have to have something. I Googled private party health insurance and that was no help and I figured there would be someone on here that has this kind of insurance.

Thank you in advance for any help anyone provides. It will be nice to be my own boss and not have to answer to anyone.

I'm an independent contractor and I get health insurance from Blue Cross. I switched from New West about 4 years ago.

I haven't price-shopped since then, but I'm about ready to again, as my rates went up about 25% this year.

Anyway. What I do is carry a high deductible plan, and have a Health Savings account with it. This works great for me.

Not sure if this is an option for you but its something to look into.

gocats,

Contact an independent insurance representative in your area. Depending on the nature of your employment, you might qualify for inclusion in an employer's association or another pooled-risk plan. An agent should be able to help you determine the best fit for your needs. They'll do all the legwork for you, compare plans, and act as a liason if you ever have questions about your policy. I am not an agent (so this isn't a sales pitch), but if you have any questions, please pm me.

Retiring my moniker. It's time to ride off into the sunset. It's been a fun ride. Go Cats.
