I've actually never been in that area but how far is Minneapolis from Fargo?El_Gato wrote:From my understanding, it isn't the mileage, it's the logistics.
If you could fly an entire football team on 1 plane into Fargo, it wouldn't be an issue. Apparently, however, such is not the case; the Fargo airport cannot handle a plane that large (which simply proves the point that Montana may NOT be the end of the earth, but you CAN, in fact, see it from here (NoDak)). I can't believe that a state's largest city doesn't have an airport capable of landing a plane large enough to haul 120+ people.![]()
Anyway, it sounds as if the league doesn't want another NAU situation where the teams must fly and then bus significant distances.
EXPAND YOUR AIRPORT, BISON, AND YOU'LL BE IN THE BIG SKY IN NO TIME!!! I have to believe if this is an issue for the Big Sky, it would be for any other similar (or bigger/better) conference as well.

Oh, about 300 miles. Too far to bus.lifeloyalsigmsu wrote: I've actually never been in that area but how far is Minneapolis from Fargo?
I am surprised that Fargo doesn't have a high quality airport. I remember in the Times magazine it said that Fargo was one of the fastest growing economical communities in the country. I would think a city would need adequate transportation to have such a distinction... I have been to Fargo a couple of times, and I think it is nice community. I have always felt it would be a good addition for the Big Sky.

You're correct on the Davis market being predominately in the Sacramento market--meant to and should have stated Davis is a superior institution to Suc State. And yeah, if PSU continues to develop their program, I may reconsider how I feel about their inclusion in the conference. They did afterall win the regular season basketball title last yearBobcatLionFan wrote:Maybe I am missing something, but Cal Davis is the Sacramento TV market. Also, Cal Davis and the Dakotas were Div II schools when PSU and Sac State entered the Big Sky. Thus they were not a consideration when the league was formed??
PSU is the same distance from Bozeman as the Dakato schools? So there is no travel difference and Oregon is a good place to recruit (a couple from there are Lulay? Lulay? Force? Roosevelt?) Seems PSU is a good school to keep?

DC9's fly into Fargo everyday and they carry 120+. What do they fly into Bozeman and Missoula?
To fly into Montana you have to go through Salt Lake, Seattle, Denver or Minneapolis. To Fly into Fargo you would also have to fly through those same cities with the exception of Seattle.
So I don't see how the airport has anything to do with this challange.
