I'd also like to add that this was a piss poor attempt at a cover-up by the athletics dep't. They really need to improve in this area.

Then they have to go through the process of determining what happened and how they're going to respond, then run that by the powers-that-be. I would guess you'll see something in the next couple of days, which seems reasonable.

As for the Chronicle, they merely need to ask Bozeman Police Dept. and run with it. They don't need to get an official release from the school. The police reports don't say where the people they arrest work or go to school, so it could be that the person at the Chronicle that checks the reports simply didn't know that these guys are on the team. Maybe Gidal and Colter haven't heard anything or read this thread yet. All kinds of reasons for the delay, if it can even be called that.
these seem reasonable and i could be mistaken but wasn't the fight with the football guys and hoops player reported on pretty quick after the fact? certainly not 3+ days after. don't get me wrong, i'm not a conspiracy guy and i certainly don't think it's a coverup as much as bearaxed prays it is.....but still seems odd. usually you don't see several days of message board banter about players getting arrested before it's even mentioned in the news or paper. :?
The incident you're refering to occured on a late Saturday/early Sunday and was reported on the following Monday afternoon around 3:00. It involved an assault and a person being seriously injured and taken to the hospital. This one involves breaking into a car and theft. I imagine that might have something to do with the notification time difference. This latest crime occured late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, which is less than 3 days ago. The message board banter has only been going on since late last night on this board, not for several days.

ya i guess. i heard about it sunday morning and i wasn't even in town. i was reading about it on the boards since sunday afternoon. it's now tuesday. to me that is several. no big deal. it's out now. was just curious why there seemed to be more of a delay than usual. my guess was that it's because it's basketball players and we currently suck at basketball. had this been mcghee....my prediction is it would have been in the paper or on the news before tuesday afternoon. :-^

Yeah, maybe. You must've read about it on egriz.com since that's the only place (per Google) anything was mentioned about it until last night on here. The reason for that is probably because they have an obsessed poster that appears to check the Bozeman Police reports daily or at least on the weekends looking to see if anyone from MSU athletics has gotten in trouble. It appears that even he didn't know who Budinich or Johnson were, since he made no mention of them and was only concerned with Ash's son until a Cat poster pointed them out.

I don't think the time elapsed between the incident and when MSU put out a statement had much to do with the fact that they were BB players. It probably had something to do with the lack of severity of the crime and making sure that the proper channels were used before it went out. My guess is that MSU is fairly well versed in how to proceed with these kinds of things and that is evidenced in how both players have been suspended.

Go on ya for being vigilant about how MSU, its fans and Bozeman stay on top of these matters.

Apparently they admitted breaking into the cars and stealing items. They pleaded not guilty but did admit to the offense and had the items on them when caught. Should result in not only being removed from the team but also school. Whatever posessed these kids to do something like that? It appears blatant. It is totally disappointing.

It's good to be vigilant (keeping watch over), but not a vigilante (enforcing laws w/o authority). :) Seriously it's good to have fans that are watching things in terms of the school's best interests. It shows that you aren't an abettor of a bad culture/win at all cost mentality.

I'm sure they'll go the way of Mr. Trammell. Yet the bearaxed's of the world (and there are many of them) will still point to them as proof of MSU being out of control or whatever it is they want to believe.

Why do you care what bearaxed thinks? His hate for all MSU I believe stems from him failing out in record speed from MSU years ago..

Anyways, my only thoughts on this whole debacle is that Huse needs to figure out things fast. The on court and off court performance sucks to say the least..

Indeed....and as usual, the breakdown starts with leadership (or lack thereof). IMHO, Since Brad has been here, we continue to struggle with retention of athletes and asst coaches, team performance, behavior issues and a complete lack of direction for the program. I know that he is a good guy with an excellent family, but I think It may be time to re-evaluate his future if there isn't a significant turn around in the program....

Just sayin'...

Let's see, we have Mohammed Fall ruled ineligible, Allou graduated, and Johnson and Budinich pull this crap. Who exactly do we play in the middle now?? Thank goodness for Coach Binford and the always competent and occasionally great women's team.

When I heard that basketball players were in trouble, I thought "oh, whatever, it would be hard for that team to get a whole lot worse."

When a team loses its two best remaining big guys in a single incident, it gets worse. Ouch.

That makes the team's 4 best big guys and their best wing gone in one offseason. Double ouch.

Dison better make the jump from "deserves a look as the starter" to "amazing freakin' basketball player" in a hurry

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FU*KIN KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seeing the paper this morning is the first I have heard about this...

Kicking these 2 retards off the team is not enough in my mind. I wish we could have a public gathering and throw rocks at them or something... and yes, I'm serious.

I feel bad for Coach Huse, I have never heard of a coach that has had more players leave or dismissed from the team (for various reasons) over a couple year period. Will there even be enough players for a starting 5 this season? Should the Athletic Department just say Fuk it, and scrap the basketball program all together... its become an absolute joke.

I don't feel bad for Huse, I think that he is at the heart of this. All of these people leave, or do things that are classless. I think that the program does not seem to have any control.

I think Huse came to the end of his "honeymoon" a couple years ago and felt the pressure to start putting up more wins. Because of that, I think he's taken some chances on guys who have talent (though the W/L results may indicate otherwise), but maybe have some personal/academic baggage. The same thing happened to Mick Durham as well as Mike Kramer.

I was on the Huse bandwagon from Day 1, as I have a lot of respect for the guy, but I really think this will be his last year as the MSU head coach.

You don't think that at the very least some of the players leaving might actually be Huse's fault? I wouldn't wanna play for the guy. I mean, obviously the Fall thing is not his fault. That's just the N-C-double Ass-holes being the N-C double Ass-holes. A lot of guys leaving seems like a pattern rather than the coach being a victim of circumstance.

I do wish that if he was going to recruit a criminal element, he'd at least recruit criminals who are better at basketball

I agree. I don't think Huse has just been the victim of "dumb luck", with so many players leaving the program. If that happened during one off-season, then maybe you could say that was bad luck, but not when it happens year after year after year. I almost hope for us to have a very bad season this year, which would make it very difficult for Fields to justify keeping Huse. The sooner he's gone, the sooner we can begin the process of starting over with a new coaching staff. I thought he was a good choice at the time he was hired, but he clearly hasn't gotten the job done, and it's time to move on.
