And besides, all of us Cat fans are very openminded: If we wanted his opinion we'd give it to him

Why doesn’t the Chronicle go after some local blood? Everyone hired in the sports department keeps telling us how they are not Bobcat fans, but rather PAC 10 fans. Why not hire a little local blood? We have a university in the city of Bozeman, so there has to be someone that can meet the requirements at the Chronicle (2.0 GPA and a creator of bad jokes). I think we are just a hair away from hiring a new writer that will say, “I am the biggest Griz fan alive, but I will do fair reporting on the Cats every week except during Bobcat/Griz week.”

Why is it so hard for some cat fans to just except the fact that Hauck IS a good guy. Everyone seems to understand this with the exception of a few cat fans.

That's a good one East Coast Fizzlie: remember where he went to high school :?: Wonder if this year we'll be getting all our sheepherder jokes out for the old Sheepherder from that famous county the Everly Brothers made famous--Sweetgrass County Montana where they're all a------- and grow up to be Fizzlies

This is what griz fans tell themselves at night over too many beers, because it hurts them too much to admit the truth! Just LOOK at ECG's Mantra... WOW :D

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

The issue with these writers isn't whether or not Hauck is a good guy. I'm a little irked with the length they go just to try and prove to us he is a good guy. If I read one more article telling me reasons why I should love Hauck and perhaps try and be friends with him, I am going to snap.

I remember Welsch saying he would get better coverage of the Cats once he was fully staffed. Well if this guy does a good job of covering the Cats like you have promised, everyone will get a long. If he makes a Griz reference in every piece, he isn't going to have very many fans in Bozeman.

I agree with others - I don't read the Chronicle for national sports. I don't care what alma mater you hail from.

Overall I'd say the Chronicle does a pretty decent job of covering the Cats.

Say it enough times, and maybe it will actually become true!

Indeed, Celtic. The Chronicle is orders of magnitude better since Jeff came on board. It's actually WORTH reading now.

They just need to consider Bobcat Nation as their involuntary journalistic watchdog!

That is a good observation about the coverage of all the sports in the Valley. The gameday report is fair and the Sunday wrapup is excellent, in my opinion. Rather fascinated to see the Belgrade Panthers having so much success running the wing-t, however  Always thought the triggerman was the most important aspect of this offense and would love to see the old school go deep into the playoffs this year

At least we have Steve Dent reporting the evening news- Biggest Bobcat Fan alive and the best damn pizza delivery boy this side of the Mississippi. I am fortunate enough to have Steve Dent's Greatest Hits CD in my collection too!

Yeah, you have to love a guy who had to go to school in Missoula covering the griz every week and still hates the griz today. He would go to every game and sit with the visiting team and cheer against his alma mater. I have his greatest hits as well, pretty good stuff.

I think the fact that he greets Bozeman and MSU fans with a journalistic middle finger and then offers up a top 10 list any ESPN watcher could scribe is a pretty accurate picture of what you can expect from Mr. Hinkleman.

I "followed" his work at the Daily Mistake in Kalispell during his stay here and all I can say is occasionally I found it mildly amusing, although generally it was not very original. I will vouch for his neutrality regarding Cat/Griz; during his time here, the Daily Intercourse FINALLY started giving the Cats a little ink.

That little quip made me hate this guy as well. I think Shockey is an ass for doing the same crap. The sports page needs to give me scores, tell me about the team, and leave their social commentary at home.

I agree, he is doing wonders in Missoula and they should keep him on board as long as possible!! I would hate to see Hauck leave UM.

Hopefully the Regents will approve the ability for our schools to offer 3 year contracts and BOTH Kramer & Hauck will sign one immediately!
