Why would he?
Why would 44 of the Cats leave a guy open at the 3 point line to go after a guy under the basket?

Re: Why would he?
Why would we not foul and put them on the line instead? I wouldn't even let them shoot the 3.

Good game for the Cats though. The Griz are the best team in the conference right now but we played toe to toe with them on their own court. This game could give us confidence and propel us going forward.

Re: Why would he?
You can't really foul when the guy they inbound the ball to is right at the line for the shot. Then you're just opening yourself up to a possible 4 point play to lose it. Griz went to the 3rd or 4th option and the kid nailed it, you take your hat off to him. I am so so happy to see MSU playing some good basketball once again! Those in Bozeman, get out and support the guys against SUU on Monday!

Re: Why would he?
It was a great effort. There's a hundred plays you could point to. Colbert hit the 2nd free throw, we get the rebound on their first two misses in the possession...
Is Huse just cursed? The guy can't get a break. Not in recruiting, with the NCAA, and on the court. A win tonight probably saves his job.
Important homestand next week.

Re: Why would he?
Sounded like a real heartbreaker for MSU. I didn't get to see any of it, but was following the Internet feed. Sounds like they gave them all they could handle though.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Bs....3 point lead with 6 seconds left. A good coach fouls. Period....no excuses. Poor coaching tonight. Cats should have won. How many more chances does huse need. Time for a change.

Hats off to the cats. Played a great game and had a chance to win. Had some bad bounces down the stretch. Proud of them.....

Re: Why would he?
Cats had the game in the bag. You foul when you are up by 3 with that little time left. IMHO, either poor coaching or poor execution.
It was, however, the best a Huse team has looked in two seasons. Very few stupid plays. The players showed confidence and courage down the stretch. The game leaves me feeling conflicted: encouraged we played well, but discouraged we couldn't close it out.
Is it time to think we are turning the corner? Or just time to start/continue thinking of a regime change?

Re: Why would he?
Yeah don't foul the 3 point shooter but right when it's inbounded. Non shooting foul. That didn't lose the game but I don't let them get the three off. I put them on the line for 2 free throws. If that MSU makes the layup right before that play the game was over. Good game though. I liked what I saw from our team. Without a big man though we are going to have to rely on the three point shot most games which usually means you can beat anyone but it also means you can lose anyone as well.MSU01 wrote:You can't really foul when the guy they inbound the ball to is right at the line for the shot. I personally am not going to make any assessments until the season is over. Yes, the results have been somwhat encouraging through the first 7 BSC games. But we've been down this road too many times in recent seasons. How many times have we been 5-3 or even 6-2 through the first half of BSC play, and we've had this same conversation (being optomistic that perhaps the program has finally "turned the corner"), only to have things completely unravel during the 2nd time through the conference? Fool me once...shame on you. Fool me 7 times...shame on me (and Huse). I'll be as happy as anyone, if we can reverse this trend, and continue to play this well through the rest of the BSC schedule, and the tourney. But I'm not necessarily ready to believe that anything has really changed, after having played only a third of the conference schedule.

One of the the best things I saw on the night is during the timeouts. Huse drawing up the plays and the players paying attention and looking like they have bought into the program. That is a good sign. I agree we will see how season goes but I liked what I saw tonight even though we lost.

I am really impressed with a couple of our young players. Hopefully they will stick around for more than two years. Now lets go finish the season strong.

Agreed. I am excited about the potential of the young guys like Colbert and Dison as well as the potential for improvement in this year's group of JC transfers as Seniors next season. What a refreshing change it would be to actually have most of the team come back two years in a row. Fingers crossed...although based on recent history I am not too optimistic.hardhatcat wrote:I am really impressed with a couple of our young players. Re: Why would he?
I agree, but when have we seen a young player actually improve? Heck Budinich has regressed. They need to lock Eric Norman and Danny Robison in the weight room this offseason and throw away the key. Both have a chance to be pretty good, if they actually develop as big guys and quit trying to be outside shooting small forwards.MSU01 wrote:hardhatcat wrote:I am really impressed with a couple of our young players. Paul Egwuonwu and Flavian Davis came in here as highly skilled, but very soft. Eqwuonwu is showing signs of toughening up but has a ways to go. Davis gets the ball stripped away way too easily, happened a lot last night and he disappears for long stretches of the game. If those two stick with it and get more used to D-1 play I think they could be pretty good the rest of their careers.

The ref was not watching the line, he was watching the ball. I think they missed that call.CelticCat wrote:Looked like the guys foot slid out of bounds from TV angle...
