I've sometimes heard the excuse that um, being a liberal arts school, has an easier time recruiting basketball players than an ag-engineering school like MSU.
I wish it were a vaild argument. But it's just another excuse, unfortunately. Both schools have the same entrance requirements. And a quick check of our roster shows these majors:

University Studies: We have 6 players majoring in that (whatever it is).

Liberal Studies: 1 player

Sociology: 2 players

History: 1 player

The other 3 are Computer Sci, Business and Health and Human Performance.

The Griz roster doesn't list majors without clicking on each player, but I can't imagine their respective majors being "easier". And I seem to recall that many of their best players over the past few years have been honor roll and academic All-Americans.

I don't think Huse can use academics as the source of the problem.
Yeah, I've never really bought that argument either. I really don't believe that most prospective recruits view the schools or the communities as being that much different from each other. The only relevant difference between MSU and UM is their tradition of BSC titles and NCAA tourney appearances, and our tradition of either not even making the BSC tourney, or losing in the 1st round if/when we do make it.

The one thing we can do unfortunately is hit where it hurts--money. I've thought long and hard about this. As long as fball is doing so well PF looks great. Bobcat Club membership is up with funds rolling in at all time highs. I hated doing it but this year I cut my membership amount in half. I realize that affects all sports but it's the only way I can see to show I want change. I'm not trying to encourage anyone to do the same but that's my avenue.
It's pretty clear there is, and has been, a leadership crisis in MSU Athletics. My money goes to academics.

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

"Univeristy Studies" is MSU-speak for a couple of different things. First off, "University Studies" is another way of saying somebody hasn't chosen a major yet. This is by far the most frequent use of the term. I also had a friend who changed majors three or four times and racked up an obscene amount of credits, and at some point MSU tried hard to pressure her into taking a "University Studies" diploma, although she was only a semester away from her student teaching at that point. She managed to get the teaching degree she wanted, and the teaching job she wanted it for.

Has there been any sort of booster-based letter written to Waded Cruzado about the current state of MSU basketball?

Seems to me that she is a figurehead that knows how to get things done in a quick manner and for the better.

I think that any reasonable person would look at the statistics that wbtfg posted initially would be enough for someone in her position to start pulling strings.

I heard this morning on ESPN radio that former NBA great Steve Kerr may be looking for a coaching job.
If Huse were to be shown the exit do you think we would even have a chance at getting him?
His name recognition sure would be a boost to our bball program.

Probably only if Kerr was the kind of person who felt that he had enough money and that he was interested in coaching primarily only to fulfill his passion for the game. Those people are few and far between.

Most likely he would go a job that paid about five to ten times what MSU would pay, unfortunately.

I'd love to see MSU step up the salary and try to get a name guy to revive the program, though.

Probably more like 20-30 times what MSU could/would pay. He's rumored to be a candidate for the Knicks opening if/when Woodson is fired, and I'd guess that job would be worth at least 3 mil per year...probably closer to 5 mil. Kerr probably makes 5-10 times what MSU would pay him, in his current job as a TV analyst. Winning the Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge would probably be a better bet, than betting on Steve Kerr to be MSU's next coach.

Steve Kerr was an NBA general manager and has earned no less than $548,000 since 1990. There is zero chance he comes to Bozeman. Less than zero. Impossible.

Colter

I really did not take any of the previous "Kerr to MSU" posts as being serious posts. No way in hell!

BTW has anyone asked Fields directly, since the end of the season, what his thoughts are on the state of the Montana State Basketball program are?

Well, Colter didn't use the term "negative infinity chance," so I can't help but think that Kerr might be the next coach at MSU.

Do you think he would give an interesting answer?

I presume that he'll be at the Triangle Classic next month, and I'll ask him that very question if I get the chance. Although I'm guessing that his answer would be pretty generic...something along the lines of "we'll evaluate the state of the MBB program at the end of next season, and then make a decision about whether or not to offer Brad another contract extension". I seriously doubt that anyone would get much more out of him than that.

While I would like to here his answer, Sometimes it is not not necessarily the answer that matters, but it is more important that we ask the question.

I agree completely, and I would add that it's also important to frame our questions in a way so that we don't come off as typical "whiny fan" guy.
