A quote from Tyler Hall: "I was completely blown away. It took me by surprise," Hall said. "I thought I would see horses and cows (on my visit), but everything was brand new. The school is newer. Everything is on the rise. Not just basketball, but the school."

That's pretty neat!

I have been hearing for about a month now from multiple sources that 6-5ish shooting guard Tyler Hall was Fish's #1 Target this fall. Back when Fish was hired he was asked about his recruiting areas and priorities. He started by saying a bunch of standard "the right kids for the program" "Character Guys" etc. but the thing that caught my ear was when he talked about investigating what it takes to win in the Big Sky. Paraphrasing a little he talked about in every conference there is a style of play if you will and with-in that style you needed to identify what position and type of players are the movers and shakers in the conference for winning teams. He went on to say he wanted to talked to coaches, view tape in order to identify what that key position was and what were the characteristics that that player needed. Once identified, that would be his focus his recruiting attention to finding best possible recruit(s) at that position and with those traits. I hear coming into this falls recruiting season Tyler Hall was that guy for Montana State's early signing period. I first became aware of Fish's recruitment in Hall early this summer and wondered if he was maybe a kid outside our range but happy Fish was on him. As summer went on I saw a ton of program jump on this kid. by the time he visited Montana State this past week end he had at least 12 D-1 offers and a lot "larger" of programs hanging around the perimeter. Hall's first visit to Nevada a couple weeks ago and they pulled out all the stops to get him to commit. Everything I have heard he had a great visit, but was not willing to commit yet. After visiting Montana State this past week-end he cancelled his three other visits to Ball State, Northern Iowa and Western Michigan and committed to the Bobcats. By the way one school I heard was trying very hard to get him in for a visit was Northern Arizona but they did not make the short list.

Tyler hall is from Rock Island high School in Illinois averaged 10.7 points, 3.5 rebounds a game and was named First-team All-Western Big 6 Conference a very good Ill. League as a junior. His running-mate in the back court will be playing for D-1 Southern Illinois this fall. Hall is a shooter supreme as the video below will show. The one question I have is that I saw him this summer listed as a 6-3 SG bit all of a sudden tonight I see him listed at 6-5 on all of the internet/Twitter postings. Hall is ranked by ESPN as a 3 Star recruit

Here are some internet articles that have appeared so far tonight about his commitment

■ Tyler Hall, Rock Island
Although the Hoops Report became a fan of Hall this past summer, the 6-3 shooting guard has solidified himself as one of the top 25 prospects in the Class of 2015 with his play at the start of this season. The smooth perimeter shooter is always a threat to knock down shots, and he continues to become a more diverse scorer.
People around the Rock Island program had been saying how it was just a matter of time before junior guard Tyler Hall had a breakout performance for the Rocks. He picked the perfect time to have it last Friday. In front of a crowd of around 4,000 at Wharton Field House and with his team trailing Moline by two, Hall caught a pass from point guard C.J. Carr along the left wing and nailed a game-winning 3-pointer with 4 seconds left on the clock. It was Hall’s fifth 3 of the game and he put up a team-high 19 points in the victory. “Big-time shot for a big-time player,” Carr said afterwards. “He’s really good and I trusted him and he knocked down the shot.” Hall and the Rocks came together down the stretch to rally and beat a game Maroons squad that gave conference-leading Rock Island all it could handle
.

With this commitment for Fish I think it is clear that he a force to be reckoned with in the recruiting battles. As we have seen with Green, Price and now Hall if he can get a kid into Bozeman he can get them to commit on the spot. Now the big question we will need to see is how well can he develop and coach the talent he may bring in. Cautiously optimistic I tell you I am.

It'll be interesting to see how coach Fish's measuring tape reads. Mick Durham would have listed him at 6'7".

Saw Tyler and his family with Coach Fish at the prowl before the football game. He did look surprised at the turnout and passion of the fans, I'm sure it helped.

Good job fans, and welcome Tyler!

Getting a recruit in the same week-end as a football game always helps. The only exception I ever heard was when coach told me about a kid who from from Nebraska came in on a football week-end and thought our team/stadium was quaint

This was on Joe Hendricksen from the Chicago Sun-Times recruiting blog today:
Biggest steal in 2015: The term “recruiting steal” is thrown around loosely. However, there is no other way to describe Tyler Hall’s commitment to Montana State. The Rock Island star is arguably a top 15 prospect in Illinois heading to the Big Sky, a league where the average attendance this past season was a shade over 2,000 fans and road dates include trips to the likes of Idaho State, Portland State, Southern Utah and Sacramento State.

But Montana State was on Hall early and stayed on him as head coach Brian Fish established a relationship with the sharpshooter that proved to be the difference in this recruitment.

Hall is a silky smooth 6-3 scoring guard and is without question one of the top handful of shooters in the senior class. He brings a feathery touch, range and a quick release, both off the dribble and catch. Nevada, Northern Iowa, Western Michigan, Ball State and others were heavily involved with a player who could end up being the steal of the class out of Illinois in the Class of 2015.

I could have started a new thread but I will just keep this one going. Here is some info on who will be coming in for a visit in the next couple months.

Mandrell Worthy Jr
The Bobcats will have 6-2 PG/SG Mandrell Worthy from Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Washington (just outside of Seattle) in this week end for an official visit. Fish had a in home get together with he and his family last night. As far as I know Worthy is the only recruiting prospect both the Bobcat and Griz are going head to head with to land his services. Actually the Griz have been on him longer and hard with the Bobcats moving in late this summer. He is projected as primarily a point guard at the college level but could easily slide over to the shooting guard when needed. I have seen him ranked any where from the #2 to the #7 prospect in Washington this year. The consensus ranking I would say is 4th-5th. He plays with 6-7 combo forward Matisse Thybulle who is hold offers from Gonzaga, Washington St, Washington, and Oregon. Nevada, Portland State and Montana have been recruiting him the hardest over the spring and summer. Montana State, Seattle and Idaho have also offered and St Mary's has scheduled an in home with Him this week so their is a possibility of an offer coming from there. In addition to his official vist to Bozeman this week end, he has a official visit scheduled to Idaho on September 27th. I have heard the Griz have an official visit scheduled but I have not heard when.

Sam Neumann
The Bobcats will have the 6-6 SF/SG Sam Neumann from Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul Minnesota in for an official visit Septemeber 25th. Fish had an in home get together with he and his family this week. The Bobcats have been recruiting Neumann for most of the summer and I beleive he is high on their list. He has been playing shooting guard most of his carrer but a late growing spurt has him being projected as a small forward prospect in college. I have heard that he could top out at 6-8. Like Hall he is a deep shooter but also has an inside game and is a good passer in traffic. Neumann had some huge scoring games last year scoring in the 30's quite a few times. He holds offers from Montana State, Bryant, Notheastern, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Toledo and Wyoming. I do not know of any other official visits scheduled this fall for Neumann, but Wyoming was also in for an in home this week.

Video: (note the dates in the Feb 11 2013 he does not look to be any bigger than 6-3ish)

Fish has proven so far to be a pretty slick recruiter so I would not count him out on any of these two guys, but from what I am hearing I think our best shot is with Sam Neumann. Let's see if he can land both though.

BTW the Bobcats should have 4 scholarships to offer this year with Bigby-Williams not making the grade. According to an Article Gidal Kiaser wrote the other day, Fish may be looking to fill Bigby-William's schoolarship with a mid season transfer 2nd semester. That would leave us with 3 scholarships for the fall recruiting period.
