The new Worthington Arena
The new chair back seats with the cup holders are nice. It's certainly more cozy. No more spreading out on the bleachers in your very own section. The new sound system is good-you can really feel the bass thumping until they turn it down. The capacity is greatly reduced with the big black curtains over most of the upper level. Not sure that's a good thing. In a mostly gym league, we had the nice big arena. Now it looks like Northern Colorado's venue inside the Fieldhouse. I suppose if Fish really gets it rolling they can always raise the curtains.

Any ideas on max capacity for basketball? Reason I ask is because I was at the original official new MSC field house inaugural basketball game and it seems there were around 9,600 at the game. Perhaps it's been downsized to allow more comfortable overall seating.

I think I read somewhere that the new reduced capacity is something like 4,500. It's a whole lot smaller.Mr Lisle wrote:Any ideas on max capacity for basketball? I think people in the 1950's might have been willing to put up with a little more uncomfortable conditions than today? Also things like fire codes have changed-along with just general crowd safety. The Fullmer-Giardelo fight in the 1950's crammed about 12,000 people in the fieldhouse which is still the record crowd. Can you imagine 12,000 people in there with fewer restrooms that what there is now?

I'll have to disagree with you on your comments about the curtain system. What good is having the nice big arena when you are drawing as few of people as the Cats are right now? The curtains do a great job of making it not feel completely empty. I think the attendance last night was somewhere around 1,100 (I've seen worse crowds) bit the place didn't seem anywhere near as empty as it has the last couple years. And yeah in a year or two hopefully Fish has the team rocking and we are forced to open one side or the other to get more room.
One thing I did note is it seems like the students are only on the end line now, is this the case? The old area behind the benches is regular seating. If indeed that's where the students are at then there were maybe 8 students at the game aside from the band. Pretty sad.

Re: The new Worthington Arena
It's tough to gauge with a week night exhibition game, but the new capacity will only hold what was a pretty routine sized crowd a few years ago.
Looks like the students get a couple of sideline sections and the east end zone. The seating chart is here: http://msubobcats.com/common/controls/i ... ce_Map.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hmm, interesting that 111 is supposed to be student. We are right next to that and seemed like a lot of UM Western fans there.
