First of all, I know I'll probably take some flack for this, but there is a difference between a game in Missoula and one in Bozeman and it's my belief that it's worse in Bozeman. Here's why....in Missoula, most of the tailgating done in the vicinity of the stadium is done be an older crowd. Half of the tailgating done in Bozeman is done by drunken college students and they generally go above the playful ribbing. This is because in Missoula, they charge a lot more for parking, etc., making it too expensive for the students in Bozeman to gather in one big crowd. I'm not saying that it's right, but that's how it is. The students in Missoula go above the playful ribbing as well, but they aren't numbered in the thousands located directly next to the stadium.
Our mistake was actually walking through the student tailgate section (won't make that mistake again). I'm used to walking all around Wash/Griz stadium and not seeing a large group of overly-drunk students like the one in Bozeman. I realize they are out there in Missoula and are just as nasty. Bad things do happen at both places and it's idiotic to think it doesn't. But the tailgating at both schools is certainly a different atmosphere.
We did have things thrown at us (beer cans, snow balls, etc) and it almost came to blows a couple times. I definitely thought our safety was at risk. It's our fault for walking through that section. I'm not going to dwell on it and it's certainly not worth a letter or any amount of animosity towards the town of Bozeman.
When we walked through the other side, we took some ribbing and it was expected, no big deal. Most of the fans were great and the drunk college students shouldn't be a reason to take it out on the many other great fans of MSU. Both sides have them, neither one any better or worse than the other. It's just more prevalent on one side of Bobcat stadium IMHO.
That post is ... perfectly reasonable. Take note, Diane. That is how one inserts rationale thought into a discussion.
My mom and sister said that there were a LOT of snowballs flying before, during and after the game out there, and that a couple little fights did break out as a result. It sounded like it was all fun and games, until someone gets hits in the face (we all know how that goes).
So although I thinks it's crap if people were throwing snowballs at you (in an aggressive way) because of your colors, it sounds like there was a lot of Cat on Cat snowball action throughout the entire time as well.
Everybody I talked to that was out there said they had a great time (mostly people who aren't students) ... which tells me that they were lucky enough to avoid catching one in the face.
