MSU Football Attendance -- the Mystery of the 7s
From the Big Sky web site, here are the attendance numbers for the six MSU 2015 home football games:
19367
19707
19407
18617
17427
20507
They all end in 7. They must not be actual counts or the other digits would get their turn. I have noticed this since the stadium expansion. The listed seating capacity is 17,777. I checked other teams and found no such trend.
Can anyone please explain all of the ending 7s? Major curiosity here.

Look back at he official records, the number has always ended in a 7. It goes back a long way.

The SID is superstitious and thinks 7 is lucky. I think that's the extent of it

Re: MSU Football Attendance -- the Mystery of the 7s
I heard once that it was a tribute to a former SID at MSU, a man by the name of Ken Nicholson. I think he ended all game attendance figures in 7, so it has continued since. I'm not sure if that's totally true or not, but that's what I heard.
GO CATS!

My name is Steve, if you'd like to know.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

You are 100% right!! Ken was a good friend of mine and he's the one who started ending attendance figures in lucky number 7, said he figured it would bring LADY LUCK on our side!! Interestingly enough the ACTUAL capacity of the stadium has all those 7's, so although Bill Lamberty has continued Kens tradition of adding a few fans to the yearly attendance bring it up to 7 he didn't have to fudge on that one!!bozbobcat wrote:I heard once that it was a tribute to a former SID at MSU, a man by the name of Ken Nicholson. Thank you bozbobcat, desmond1957 and others! What an amazing piece of Bobcat lore and I hope it will continue to be passed along.desmond1957 wrote:You are 100% right!! I do indeed remember Ken Nicholson. A truly nice man, and that voice -- I can still hear it. I am so pleased that I finally asked the question and now we all have an answer. I love numbers of all kinds and those 7s have been just been tweaking my curiosity every year.
Again, thank you. I'll never look at those attendance figures without remembering. Long live the 7s!
