Only one phase at a time

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Sat Sep 25, 2004 2:51 pm

The defense plays well-the offense sucks. The offense finally puts together a drive so the defense disappears. And to top off a huge special teams blunder.

We gave up 14 points in about 3 minutes at the end of the half. From a 13-7 game to a 27-7 blowout.

Some stuff to build on for sure-but this could get ugly today.

I agree.
But there seems to be plenty to build on here.

For those of us that can't see the game, who is playing on the O-Line?

Sounds like we have about -3 yards rushing.

I am only listening, but they are doing fair. It seems as if they are blitzing every play. Lulay has only been sacked once so far, but hurried a lot on his throws. Not sure about the number of drops, sounds minimal tho.

The game today was not nearly as bad as the score indicated. The first drive of the game was very bad for the team's morale. The defense didn't look ready to play on that first drive, but after that they clamped down on the running game. We are going to be hurting a lot without Eddie Smith for the rest of the season. When we decided to actually rush the passer, there was a lot of pressure and that resulted in a good day for Beau Clark, Ray Sebastyen, and Mac Mollohan.

Now, for the offense, I think at times it looked good, but other times it looked like it has for the first 2 games. Guinn showed a lot today, and Lulay was more accurate with his throws, for the most part.

The kicking game looked better. Although E.J. missed that field goal, he performed very well punting. I wonder if we are going to see more traditional punts from this point on. Dorowski's first kickoff was very nice as well.

All in all, this game was a success, both financially and on the field. It was nice to see that Sonny Lubick didn't want to rub it in at all (kneeling at the end of the game). Way to play guys!

Looked to me like the o-line did okay.

Kramer just said we were a better football team than three hours ago.

Receivers caught the ball.

Blake Wolfe went to the hospital for x-rays. Preliminary diagnosis is an internal bruise.

Kramer noted we were severely shorthanded on defense with both starting corners out. He said Ryan Force played some cornerback in the second half.

Fuller did okay at corner about half the time-the other half he was 15 yards off his guy.

I thought our d-line gave them fits. Daryl Rogers had a bit of a coming out party-I was very impressed with him. When we got pressure on Holland he was worthless-no Travis Lulay for sure. When he had time he picked our patched up secondary apart.

Take away the last 3 minutes of the first half, and it's a fairly competive game. We ended up being out scored only 12-7 in the second half (they called off the dogs on the last series).

Missed another field goal-but it looks like we're getting closer. Maybe the dome will help our kicker-whomever that may be.

Morris Milton finally got a little something done running the ball. That was encouraging.

We're going to have to figure out how to score a lot more points to have a chance against ISU next week.

Very encouraging game today... the o-line was good on pass protection, I was also very impressed with Milton's ability to pick up blitzers. I'll be surprised if he's not the starter at RB from here on out barring injuries. A couple nice runs on draw plays but overall the run blocking still needs improvement. Big time improvement in the passing game from both Travis and the WR's, hopefully Wolf isn't hurt too badly. Great job by Sullivan, Roosevelt, and Guinn. Defensively, big-time uh oh in terms of all the injuries at CB (Smith out for the year, Austin out next week) but they did pretty well today considering the opponent. Much better tackling this week by the CB's. I liked what CSU did to defend the Lulay punt with the 2 return men. Finally, they need to find someone to make a couple FG's because there will likely be one or two games in Conference play that will come down to kicks at the end!

Tyler Bolton was home with a bum toe. He has to have the toenail removed-not sure how he managed that injury.

I just read that Bolton is out for the year with the toe injury. Can he get a medical hardship year since he only played two games or did he just burn his freshman year? Same thing with Eddie Smith - did he lose a year since I see he is out for the season also. What losses in the secondary and a week or two ago we were all worried about the offensive line and their lack of depth.
