cat/griz/playoffs
it has been told to us over and over that all we care about is the cat griz game. that we have no program, and no tradition. while we get up for this rivalry, the griz and their amazing program simply take it as one more game before their playoff run. so, i have a question. if that is true, then can we all assume that griz faithful only care about one game in the playoffs? that's how many they got to play and the way that some talk about it, you'd think they were still playing. seems to me that i'd want to go farther. but they just keep talking about it so i'm assuming that EVERY GRIZ FAN IS HAPPY WITH ONE PLAYOFF GAME. and they can keep assuming that every cat fan is happy with a win over their poor grizzlies, and don't want to make the playoffs. just like they don't want to play 2 games in the playoffs. very good spin on this.

Friz fans just cant handle the fact that we have beat them 3 out of the last 4. They resort to bringing up the streak (which is long gone) or playoff appearances. I hate bringing up the "what ifs" but what if we had scheduled a DII team instead of playing all DI's for our non-conference schedule. We would have had the same record as the friz and been in the playoffs. I am not (just as I am sure no Cat fan is) happy we did not make the playoffs this year, but if I had to chose between beating the friz (and not making the playoffs) and losing to them but making (and getting embarassed in) the playoffs, I would have to chose beating the friz. That is not the only thing I look for in a sucessful season, but it does make not getting to the playoffs a bit eaisier to swallow.

Is there a history book I can buy with all these useful tidbits in them?bearBAC wrote:In the last TEN years the kittens are 3-7 against the GRIZ,

That's a hard one to figure!

Do I believe the game against the Cats is huge? Of course. Do I wish the Griz would have won the game against the Cats as opposed to any other win? Yes. Do I believe the season was a failure because they lost to the Cats? No.
IMO the Griz had a successful season despite the loss to the Cats. There were many question marks for the Griz coming into the season, primarily based on the fact that at the skill positions they needed to replace their quarterback, tailback, three receivers and tight end. Obviously, the offense was not pretty, but the Griz did tie for the Big Sky title, played well at times, and made the playoffs. The single game loss to the Cats did not destroy their season. I wish the Griz could have gone further in the playoffs, but looking back to where they stared the year I can't say I am disappointed.
Overall, I believe this years Cat team disappointed many Cat fans by not making the playoffs when expectations were so high. IMHO if the Cats had lost to the Griz, and not made the playoffs, most Cat fans would have considered this year a failure with the talent they had. My perception from reading many posts on BN, however, is that this year was a success because of the thrashing they gave the Griz. Obviously the Cats had many highlights throughout the year, but IMO the win over the Griz made their season and because of that they equate both teams success this year on that single game.

For me;
Biggest FB game of the regular season - against the cats
2nd - Against EWU
distant 3rd - against ISU
Why I'm proud of the Griz is that I've grown up through the "golden years" and watched the griz contstantly since the new stadium was build in 1986. I've been a pretty spoiled Griz fan I suppose.
My expectations as a fan are to see the Griz win a national championship, beat the cats, make the playoffs, win the big sky. In that order.
Total guess here but what I've seen/read on this board for most cat fans their priorities are; beat the Griz, win the big sky, make the playoffs, win the national championship.
I guess it's just that Griz fans have their sights set on the ultimate goal, while I see cat fans have their sights set on "the brawl." Thats how I see it...

MOST Cat fans had expectations of the 2005 squad making a run at a NC. Of course we want to beat dUMb along the way, but you're full of shiznit when you make the statement above. We've shared 3 of the last 4 Big Sky Championships, only 1 fewer than the Griz, and last time I checked, it takes more than a win over dUMb to achieve that.
Your statement is merely another weak griz fan put-down and based on the improvement of Bobcat Football over the past 4 years, don't you think it's time you dispense with them? I'm pretty sure you don't TRULY believe that we are satisified with any season in which we only accomplish beating the Griz; that being the case, why even post it, unless you're just trying to be another grizhole?

Hey you have to commend someone who's polishing up their math skills since they dropped out of junior high some time back.MM7CAT wrote:MM7CAT wrote:Friz fans just cant handle the fact that we have beat them 3 out of the last 4. In the last TEN years, we are 3-7 against the GRIZ. Since he's figured out how to work the number ten out, I wonder if he can tell me how much the griz lost by this year at the Brawl.
Bearbac, you get a scratch and sniff sticker if you can answer that one.

all these posts are saying the same things that i already know. the griz fans are saying that fromtheir perspective, it seems like the cats care more about beating the griz than making the playoffs. no kidding! i know this is how you guys feel. that's why i started this thread. what i am saying, is it's not true. no cat fan wants to beat the griz more than making the playoffs. but if the playoffs are already out of the question because our squad under-achieved, why can't we be excited for a cat win over the griz. it's not like if after we won, if all cat fans acted like they didn't care about the win, that the selection commitee would have said,"hey, lets put in msu. they didn't get it done this year, but after they beat um, they just didn't seem to care. i guess being in the playoffs is so important to them, they dont even celebrate victories! gosh guys, let's juts put them in. it obviously means so much to them." get real! my point is this. if the cats only care about beating the griz, which i know is untrue, then the griz must only care about playing one game and losing, which i'd like to think isn't true. i don't need griz fans telling me what they THINK a cat fan wants in a season. i want some proof from specific cat fans that dont want to be in the playoffs.
